Chapter 283: I Bought It.

"You’re preg—?"

Shikera didn’t know she was capable of the leap she made at that moment to shut Noah’s mouth with her hand. Seeing the surprise in his eyes, she shot him a glare and whispered,

"Don’t breathe a word about what I just said as long as Ethan is here."

Noah nodded. Though he was confused and wanted answers immediately, he knew Shikera wouldn’t ask to do this if she didn’t have a reason. And he also needed her hand off his mouth!

"You sure?" Shikera asked to confirm, and Noah nodded again before she slowly removed her hand from his mouth. Immediately, she pushed him aside and ran over to Ethan’s side. She could see the slight surprise in his eyes as she approached him but she ignored it.

"You came so fast," she commented, looking down to see a hoodie hanging from his hand.

"I was nearby," Ethan replied. "Are you alright? You screamed when you called so I thought there was something wrong?"

He glanced up at Noah before returning his gaze back to Shikera,"I also didn’t know your brother is here."

Shikera nodded vigorously.

"Yeah, I also didn’t know. I called because I thought it was the stalker that was rumored to be roaming around these days. I’m sorry for the fake alarm," she apologized, blinking her eyes cutely to see a flicker of surprise pass through Ethan’s eyes.

It was expected. After the argument earlier, she was sure he didn’t expect her to act this way towards him. That was the reason he wasn’t embracing her and also didn’t bother pushing her away either. He was not sure what to do.

"It’s... It’s alright. I was around here anyways," he managed to say.

"Thanks," Shikera beamed. She bent to take the cloth in his hand and looked up at him. "Did you bring this for me?" she asked.

"Yeah, I figured you didn’t get the chance to take any since you stormed out of the house immediately after getting dressed. The evening wind is cold here," Ethan explained, trying to get his intentions out as carefully as he could. What if she said he was too caring for her liking? Or if she said he watched her too much to know she went out in a dress?

"Wow," Shikera gushed excitedly, as if she had not expected it. She took the hoodie from him and slipped it over her body immediately. "Thanks, Honey."

At this point, Ethan was completely confused. He looked from Shikera to her brother, trying to make out if he met the both of them at the wrong time. Or could it be that Shikera wanted her brother to think she was—

"I’m sorry," Shikera’s voice broke into his thoughts, startling him.

"What are you saying?" 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"I’m sorry for what happened earlier. I wasn’t feeling well and tried to vent my anger on you...And I also didn’t mean all that I said earlier, it was just me trying to get you annoyed," Shikera added. Her words would not be enough to apologize for what she did of course, but she still wanted to do this. Even if she knew she caused it, she hated how he seemed too careful in front of her, making her feel like there was some sort of distance between them.

All this while, Noah had been watching the drama going on between the two like one watching TV. His calculative gaze moved from the supposed cold and stern business man to his own bratty younger sister, wondering what possessed them both. Perhaps they were trying to make him jealous.

He cleared his throat and pointed his index finger at Ethan.

"You, don’t we need to talk?" he asked.

"After I’m done talking to my wife," Ethan replied immediately.

"Yeah," Shikera supported, rolling her eyes at Noah. "After my husband is done talking to me."

Noah was speechless.

Shikera laughed, mockery lacing her tone. She slipped her hand into Ethan’s and raised it up as if to admire how it looked, asking,

"Why did you ask him to come here?"

"I couldn’t find you with my own influence so I had to ask him. There’s also a chance that you told him where you were going," Ethan replied.

Shikera nodded, realization dawning on her. Casting a furtive glance at Noah, she slightly pulled Ethan down until his head was on the same level as hers.

"Will you talk to him now? We have to send him away before night arrives, remember?" she whispered in his ears.

"Do you want me to?" Ethan asked back, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of his lips. It was obvious that he was joining hands with Shikera to make fun of her brother.

"You should. He might cry if we let him wait any longer," Shikera laughed.

Even as he and Shikera’s hand was still clasped together, Ethan walked towards Noah who was currently shaking his head at the treatment he was getting from both husband and wife, as they called themselves.

He waved at them, signaling them not to come further, "You don’t have to talk to me, both of you. Just ignore me like I wasn’t here and regarding the search for Kera, I’ll forget all about it." he began. "I’ll just count my coming here as an assets hunt instead. After all, searching for her made me come across this island with multiple areas blessed by nature. I can buy this—"

"You can’t," Ethan cut him off.

"What?"

"I already bought it," he shrugged. "Do you think a business man would come here before you and not have the sense to buy a place pregnant with resources?"

Both Shikera and Noah were wowed. They didn’t expect that in the very least. For Shikera, her excitement was only for a little while.

"Wait a minute, why did you buy it, Ethan? Are you planning to ask everyone here to leave? How did you even buy an island that has hundreds of people living on it?" she asked. As happy as she was, she could also picture the faces of Grandma Cooper who had refused to leave here, Alan who kind of disliked the city but held the island dear to his heart, Jodi whose dream was to become an actress in the big city but still harbored the secret wish to always come back to the island after making it big in the city.

With them, there were many other inhabitants who wouldn’t want to leave the island. How was Ethan planning to sort that?
