Chapter 286: The Bullies.

Shikera slowly opened her eyes, taking in the now familiar lavish surroundings of Elovien’s luxurious stateroom. The white silk headliner gently curved over her, creating a feeling of being cocooned in luxury. A soft breeze from the air conditioning system wafted over her, gently rustling the sheer curtains that framed the porthole window. As she sat up, she felt the cool, soft satin sheets slide against her skin. Her gaze drifted to the gold-plated fixtures and fittings that adorned the room as she let out a tired sigh.

They had been on this yatch for God knows how many days, and all through, she had been mostly out of herself. She could not let Ethan suspect her pregnancy so she always put up a strong front whenever she was with him.

He would ask if she was seasick or feeling bad in any way but she always denied it with a wide smile on her face, which always convinced him each and every time that she was saying the truth. Just like now, he was probably on the deck of the yatch with Raymond and Noah after she had lied that she wanted to sleep alone. In truth, she had spent several minutes retching her guts out and only just took a five minutes rest.

She got out of bed and slipped her legs into the slippers placed right beside it, standing to her feet. She headed out to the deck and found the men just as she had pictured them.

Working...

Did this men like working this much? Especially Ethan. Not wanting to disturb them in any way, she turned to go back the same way she had come when she heard Ethan’s voice.

"Were you coming to join us?" he asked.

She looked back to see him shutting his laptop, and waited as he walked over to join them.

"I didn’t want to disturb you guys. You looked like you were busy with something serious," she said.

Ethan simply smiled in return, refusing to address her worry.

"Did you sleep well?" he asked instead.

Shikera nodded.

"But you still look weak. Not like you slept to your satisfaction," Ethan disagreed, walking over to stand behind her. He pulled her flying hair up into a bun and twisted it into a long braid. He continued, "Do you want to sleep more? I can accompany you."

Shikera laughed out loud, taking a step away from him.

"You can’t get me with that line, Honey. It’s so obvious that I’ll only be more tired if I accept your offer so no. And a very big no at that!"

"But I won’t do anything. I’m only concerned that you look so pale." Ethan faked a frown, taking a step closer to Shikera to see her take another step backwards.

Shikera shook her head, still giggling.

"I only look pale in your eyes cause all you think of is—"

"Eating you?" Ethan interrupted her. Taking advantage of her shocked state that made her pause in stepping backward, Ethan took large strides forward and caught up with her. Holding her innocent gaze, he lifted her chin up while lowering his.

Their lips were about to meet when the sound of someone clearing his throat reached their ears. Simultaneously, they turned to see it was Noah staring at the both of them from where he was sitting.

"What do you want?" Ethan sighed in frustration. This brother-in-law of his seemed to be the weapon fashioned against him right from the beginning of this trip.

Noah didn’t look the least bit affected by Ethan’s glare as the smile on his face remained plastered on it.

"Nothing," he replied to Ethan’s question. "I just wanted to tell Kera you’re not the only one that thinks she’s pale. I think so too."

Noah felt another glare directed at him just at that moment and without looking, he could tell it was Shikera.

The latter was annoyed that Noah kept dropping hints every now and then, trying to get Ethan to know that she was not really in good health. Tugging at Ethan’s arms, she instantly tried to distract him before he could think much of Noah’s words.

"Why are we still here? Even a canoe trip doesn’t take this long to get the city," she asked.

"Yeah. I heard you don’t like taking air trips so I thought the yatch was our only option. We aren’t going home," he informed.

"Then where are we going?" Shikera asked, surprise evident in her voice.

Hesitating a bit before answering, Ethan looked up to see Noah nod, "To see your father. He’s back in the private hospital."

"What?!" Shikera asked in disbelief. "Daddy got sick and it’s this worse yet none of you bothered to tell me?"

"Shikera, Elizabeth Anderson and her mother hid it at first. We got to know only through—"

"That’s not the point here, Ethan. You have known for quite some time, right? Why wasn’t I informed?" she questioned. As if just remembering that there was another culprit, Shikera turned and walked over to meet Noah. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"What do you want? Go meet your husband," Noah waved her off, knowing he couldn’t face an angered Shikera. It would be better if her face was stern right now, but she looked like she was trying her best to stop her tears from falling. "Don’t give me that face, Kera. I was also informed on the day we met on the island."

"And so, Noah? You didn’t think of me as strong enough to hear that? I know I left by myself and I don’t have the right to fawn over daddy now but still, I thought you were a big brother but you’re just a bully! You and Ethan, big bullies!" she hit her hand on the table before Noah, the sound punctuating her sentence.

As she fumed, her eyes strayed over to Raymond, the last man on the table who looked like he was avoiding her eyes.

"I uhm...I didn’t know you weren’t informed or I would have told you myself," he murmured, trying to defend himself.

Shikera scoffed, "Jeez, you’re the biggest bully of all! You knew we would be sailing across the country yet you didn’t think of bringing Cyprian along. Now I have to talk to the walls and objects all through the rest of this journey."

With one last glare thrown at Ethan, she stomped away, heading back to the stateroom.
