Chapter 340: Wedding Gift

Shikera nodded absentmindedly, her restless mind already conjuring information from what she just heard.

"That makes sense. But Rian, if Ruth is your sister-in-law and Enoch is my brother-in-law, does that make us family then? We get to meet at family gatherings later?!"

Cyprian nodded slightly, "I guess so. Just put in a good fight next week and then we can see about that later." She rose to her feet, pulling up the sheets so it could cover Shikera up to her shoulders. "Get to sleep, Sweetie. I’m sure Ruth and Enoch will be here later to inform you officially and hopefully, invite you. As long as the doctor approves your attendance."

Just as Cyprian predicted, Enoch and Ruthlyn did drop by few hours later, not because they were were busy at work, but because they were busy at their first real date; wearing couple t-shirts and all.

"The doctors confined me to this bed," Shikera groaned after getting the automatic invitation from Ruthlyn. "You don’t know how much I wish to at least, experience one of y’all weddings before the surgery. It would really put my mind at ease."

"Ah... Will this be disappointing then?" Ruthlyn wondered out loud, "We aren’t actually having the glamour and frills wedding. We’ll just be at the bureau early in the morning to sign and then later in the afternoon, hold a small reception by the lake to invite just friends and families. Family friends too... we mean the other Megas. A wedding like that... do you think it’s worth your anticipation?"

"Why not?" Shikera shrugged. Her eyes travelled around the room to make sure Ethan—and Raymond—wasn’t in sight before saying, "You do know you’re talking to someone who got to know about her husband the same day she wedded him, right?"

"Sorry," Ruthlyn whispered. Few seconds passed and she sat up in her seat, all of a sudden, "Uhm... so I wanted to ask if... you would be up to join us as one of the bridesmaids? If the doctor doesn’t approve your leaving this room, you can join us virtually too, if it’s convenient by you." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"It’s an honor! You think I’d pass up on that? Especially when I’m given the virtual option? Forget it, you should go home and rest now, I have to get my dress ready and style my hair.

Right outside the door of the private room, Ethan was standing beside Enoch, both of them leaning their backs against the wall.

"How are you?" Enoch broke the taut silence, his face tightening into a wary expression, "You aren’t angry that we ditched work today, right?"

"Why should I? I’m treating you two like normal employees so your wages would be deducted, naturally," Ethan joked, "How about you? Are you sure you want to proceed with this? It’s no longer an obligation that you have to fulfill no matter what."

"Why does that sound like you are asking me if I forced Ruthlyn into marrying me because it’s an obligation, or not? Well, sorry to disappoint, Brother, but I didn’t."

Ethan bumped his shoulder, "Right back at you. Sorry to disappoint you, but I meant my questions literally. Are you sure you want to proceed with this?" he asked again. "Ruthlyn is great. But my not-so-little younger brother deserves the best, so I’ll stand with you on whatever you chose to do."

"It’s what I want," Enoch confirmed with a small nod.

Ethan sighed, "Good choice. You dodged a bullet there." He continued, "So... what’s the plan? For how many months will you two be off work?"

"Months?" Enoch echoed in disbelief, "We’re taking just days off. Tomorrow the wedding, and the next two days just to enjoy marital bliss."

"Spoken like a diligent worker. But don’t you worry about getting stressed?"

"Why would I? Not like we’re the ones planning the wedding. We only need to be present there," Enoch shrugged, "And as for the honeymoon, we’d take years off when you’re sorted out."

"If you say so..." A calm silence ensued between them for the next few seconds, before he talked, "I’m sorry, Enoch. For burdening you with my duty when you should be completely free."

"You don’t have to be. I’m only making sure Ruth and I embezzle enough money to fund our lifestyle when we finally decide to stop working," he joked. "Will you be at the wedding?"

"I should," Ethan replied, "I will. I have to."

"And Shikera?" the former asked.

"She will," Ethan affirmed. "She wanted a good memory to hold onto, so I’m sure she’d love to."

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a golden glow over the day. Everything about it felt perfect, bright, warm, full of promise. Ruthlyn and Enoch had signed the official papers earlier in a brief, intimate ceremony at the bureau, but now, the celebration had moved to the lakeside behind a beautiful vacation villa; Ethan’s gift to them.

The villa itself was nestled among rolling hills, its terrace leading down to a sparkling lake that stretched out like glass, reflecting the lush greenery and the soft blue of the sky. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the trees surrounding the area, and the water lapped quietly at the shore, creating a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere. Small lanterns hung from the branches, their soft glow not yet needed in the daylight but ready to cast their light when evening fell.

A simple but elegant arrangement of tables, draped in crisp white linens, surrounded the couple. The Mega family members—both the heads and the youngsters— and the couple’s family sat together, their quiet chatter blending with the sounds of nature. Everyone who was there truly mattered and those who understood the depth of what this day meant.

Ruthlyn stood beside Enoch, her fingers lightly intertwined with his as they gazed out at their guests. She wore a flowing white gown that fluttered gently in the breeze, her eyes shining with joy. Enoch, in a tailored suit that fit him like a glove, looked more at ease than he had ever been. His smile never left his face, the weight of their journey now a beautiful memory rather than a burden.
