Chapter 339: Good Memories.

Shikera shook her head slowly, having successfully ignored everyone else in the room apart from Cyprian.

"Noooo..." she shook her head slowly, "You are not..." She trailed off, her breath ceasing in her throat at the sight of the diamond encrusted ring on Cyprian’s raised finger.

The latter winked, wriggling her fingers, "Are you seeing this?"

"I am."

"Isn’t it beautiful?" she questioned again, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"It is," Shikera affirmed, completely entranced by the sight. "Omg, I’m so happy for you, Rian," she blinked back tears, pulling her best friend into a tight hug.

The hug lasted for minutes, and by the time she pulled back from the embrace, Shikera saw that they were now alone in the room. Krystal and Jordan had probably returned to their respective offices while Ethan was currently standing by the window, staring out into the distance. It was obvious he was trying to give them privacy while making sure he stayed in sight, in case she needed him.

"Tell me everything, Rian. I need to know how this ring climbed onto your finger," she demanded, unable to hide the eagerness in her voice.

"Hmm," Cyprian cleared her throat, "About that...I can’t really go into details. Just know that he proposed and I accepted."

Shikera started shaking her head even before her friend was able to conclude her words.

"I’m not taking that from you," she refused. "Tell me everything. Word for word!"

Cyprian averted her gaze, "I don’t really think you’d want to know how. Just know it happened last night and—"

"Nah, Rian. You don’t get to tell me what I want to know or not. Don’t let me ask one more time."

"If you say so," Cyprian sucked in a puff of air, racking her brain for where she’d start from when the sight of Ethan’s back made her rethink. Nah, she couldn’t do this.

"Kera, you know what? Why don’t I tell you later?" Before Shikera could force her to start, she hurriedly added, "So did you hear? Ruthlyn got engaged."

"What?"

The question didn’t come only from Shikera, but also from Ethan who had also turned around to face them.

"Isn’t she engaged already? To Enoch?" the former asked.

Cyprian nodded with a slightly indifferent shrug.

"Apparently, that was just a loveless arrangement made by their parents. They are truly together now. Enoch proposed last night," she informed.

Shikera’s jaws slacked in stupefaction.

"Last night too?" she echoed. "Why does this seem suspicious that they both proposed on the same day, and probably the same time?" She turned to the window to see Ethan’s eyes was already on her, "Ethan, Krystal didn’t mention memory loss as part of the side effects of the medications that I should watch out for, right?"

"She didn’t," he confirmed, worry etching his brows. "Are you alright?"

Shikera nodded, "I am. Was just trying to check if you also proposed last night and I ended up forgetting..." she lifted her fingers and let out a mock gasp, "So sorry, I should have checked my fingers to confirm instead. It’s totally bare of any kind of ring. Not even a wedding ring, jeez! How beautiful Cyprian’s, and I believe, Ruthlyn’s rings are."

Flashing him a superficial smile, she jerked her head away from him to Cyprian, the corners of her eyes crinkling in amusement.

"Tell me what look he has on his face right now," she whispered. "Does it look like he’s calculating? Thinking hard about something?"

"No, girl, you didn’t succeed in riling him up," Cyprian stated, "There’s nothing but a smile on his face right now. And don’t you dare continue before he really gets annoyed and decides not to approve the leave Raymond is planning to planning to apply for."

Shikera was successfully distracted by that, "He’s planning to take a leave? Are you guys planning the wedding already? Tell me you are! Tomorrow? The next?" 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"Sorry to disappoint you, but no. We are planning to have it in a month and go on the honeymoon immediately after, since Raymond will be free from work then," Cyprian explained, "As eager as we are to finalize the whole thing, there can’t be a wedding without a bride. And for me, no bride without her bridesmaid. When you recover completely after the surgery, we can continue planning."

"Urgghh," Shikera’s face fell, disappointment evident in her eyes.

"What? Don’t tell me you aren’t planning to fight in the OR. I need you back before I even realize you are gone. Make sure to keep that in mind, or there won’t be a wedding."

Shikera rolled her eyes, "So annoying. Why does everyone keep postponing the events they know I look forward to? The surgery will take a little more than 35 hrs, according to the doctors’ prediction; do you guys want me to go insane hovering between life and death without giving me a good memory to hold onto? At least, let’s have a small pre-wedding party, huh?"

Cyprian waved her hand, immediately dismissing the idea."I disagree. If you need a memory to hold onto, Ruthlyn and Enoch’s reception party should be perfect for that. Will the doctors..." she trailed off, noticing the look of her friend’s face was now one of confusion, "Nah... You two didn’t know about this too?"

Shikera turned to Ethan, "Were you aware?" she questioned, "Tell me that’s not why you made me agree not to go out earlier today. Because you knew I’d want to attend the wedding?!"

Still trying to keep his distance from the friends, Ethan replied perfunctorily, "I had no idea. Today’s supposed to be their wedding but I’ve been thinking they no longer want to rush into such lifelong commitment."

Shikera tilted her head, her index finger tapping slightly against her lower lip.

"Your brother is the one getting wedded. How come Cyprian got to know before you?" she asked, her gaze now directed back to Cyprian.

"They decided earlier today, from what I heard. Ruthlyn called Ray first while Enoch called his parents first. I was with Raymond when her call came in, so automatically, I got to know earlier."
