Chapter 120: Chapter 124: The Creature Known as Phoenix Man (Part 8)

Su Li didn’t dodge, for she knew her father wouldn’t really hit her. She put down her glass and walked forward, gently patting Su Fugui on the back.

"Dad, you’ve seen Su Qing’s attitude toward us. Instead of letting her resent us, why not go along with what she wants? Let her face the obstacles outside, and after that, she’ll realize the comfort of home and understand our good intentions."

"After all, our family is financially robust, and with me secretly looking after her, she won’t suffer too much."

Su Fugui looked at his daughter with suspicion, "Really?"

"Really." Su Li smiled beautifully.

"Then I’m relieved. As parents, if our child does something wrong, we must teach them properly..." Su Fugui breathed a sigh of relief, unwilling to see a rift form between mother and daughter.

Su Fugui’s deep love for his granddaughter was truly commendable.

The original Su Fugui similarly harbored protective feelings for Su Qing, and if it weren’t for Su Qing’s previous life mistakes, which had enraged her dearly loved grandfather to death, the original person probably could never have the heart to neglect her own daughter.

But Su Li had even less tolerance for Su Qing’s reckless foolishness.

All she needed to do was nothing, just watch coldly from the sidelines.

Some deep hurts are merely due to taking advantage of the other’s sincere heart.

Su Qing wouldn’t know what exactly she had missed.

However, Su Li wasn’t about to give Su Qing no chance at all, pondering playfully what her decision would be this time.

Su Qing was still unaware of what her mother had done; now, her boyfriend was coaxing her, still annoyed.

"Qingqing, why don’t you stay in a hotel for a few nights, or perhaps go back home?" Zheng Zhanpeng spoke softly and gently to his girlfriend, "Don’t be stubborn with your mom. By acting this way, my family’s impression of you will only worsen."

Not expecting that her boyfriend was still urging her to go home, Su Qing explained,

"There are only two rooms at home, one for my mom and sisters, and the other I would have to share with my dad..."

Before Zheng Zhanpeng could finish, Su Qing understood his implication—adding her to the house would overcrowd it.

Su Qing felt deeply saddened and displeased. She wanted to argue, asking why she couldn’t stay, especially since she had paid for the house, and everything in it had been funded out of her own pocket.

But knowing her boyfriend’s strong pride, she had always been careful not to wound his proud heart.

Though resentful, Su Qing couldn’t bear to see the troubled expression on Zheng Zhanpeng’s face.

"Fine, I’ll stay at the hotel tonight." After much hesitation, as she was about to leave, she still asked, "When are your parents leaving?"

Zheng Zhanpeng’s face immediately fell, and his tone grew harsh, "I noticed you’ve been distracted all evening. Turns out you still look down on my family, don’t you..."

Su Qing was bewildered, unable to understand how the conversation had taken this turn. If she looked down on his family, why would she bother arranging gifts for them?

Su Qing felt wronged; had she not already explained it to him? She had had a fallout with her family and returned everything she had gotten from the Su Family. Otherwise, without her boyfriend needing to tell her, she would have...

It was just because she no longer had money in her pocket.

In Zheng Zhanpeng’s eyes, however, that was no excuse. His seemingly innocent and sweet girlfriend was actually capable of manipulating him as well.

Zheng Zhanpeng took everything Su Qing said as a mark of reluctance and disdain toward his family.

No matter it was the credit card swiping at the shopping mall, or the silk scarves he had promised to gift to his two sisters, or now being homeless and penniless...

Su Qing was dumbfoundedly pushed out of the door by her boyfriend before she realized what had happened.

She stood outside in a daze for quite some time before she thought of knocking on the door again.

Inside the room, Zheng Zhanpeng regretted his actions after Su Qing had left.

He suddenly remembered his mother’s bracelet, the credit card had been used to spend his own money, and he immediately lost his calm.

He regretted his attitude towards Su Qing and didn’t know if she was angry; having been accustomed to Su Qing’s concessions, he had lost the initial caution.

As these thoughts crossed his mind, Zheng Zhanpeng wished he could open the door right then and chase after Su Qing to bring her back.

The bone-chilling cold of the night bit into Su Qing’s light clothes, and she hugged her arms, vigorously rubbing the goosebumps on her skin.

At that moment, she desperately wanted to call her mom and grandfather.

But thinking about their attitudes and their haughty arrogance, she masochistically stood in the drafty stairwell and subjected herself to the cold wind for a while.

She even maliciously thought that if they could see the state they had driven her to, they would definitely be extremely upset, reveling in a perverse sense of pleasure.

Accustomed to being pampered, Su Qing’s delicate body started feeling uncomfortable from the cold wind, and touching her empty pockets, she reluctantly knocked on Zheng Zhanpeng’s door again.

When the door opened, before Su Qing could even speak, she was met with a big hug from Zheng Zhanpeng.

Zheng Zhanpeng was immensely remorseful and annoyed, saying, "Qingqing, I’m sorry... I shouldn’t have misunderstood you. I regretted those words as soon as they left my mouth."

Originally disheartened and upset, Su Qing’s spirits were lifted by Zheng Zhanpeng’s humble sweet words, and she even reflected if she had been putting too much pressure on him.

"Why are you two standing at the door? Come in quickly," Mrs. Zheng Shi Erxiu called out loudly to them from inside.

Zheng Zhaodi and Zheng Qiudi had already collapsed onto the cushy sofa, rolling their eyes at Su Qing and then whispering amongst themselves.

Shi Erxiu passed by them and still caught some of their words.

"Shameless, not even married yet and they’re already hugging and cuddling."

"It’s true though, claiming to be a rich man’s daughter but she’s not even as good as Xiao Hua from our village entrance. She’s only ten and already knows to keep a distance from men."

"You two better behave yourselves..." Shi Erxiu lowered her voice and glared at the two sisters.

"Zhanpeng told me it was our fault, we came all of a sudden and didn’t give you time to prepare... The house might be small but it’s not like you have to go stay in a hotel."

Pushing her son aside, Shi Erxiu smiled kindly and took Su Qing’s hand, "If you don’t mind, the two of us can sleep in the same room..."

Faced with her future mother-in-law’s kindly expression, Su Qing was flattered and quickly shook her hands, "I don’t mind at all..."

"But we mind, not even married yet and already living with a man, I’m so embarrassed for her..." Zheng Qiudi whispered, her face dark.

She didn’t dare speak loudly, as Shi Erxiu’s authority in the Zheng family had been established since they were children, plus being daughters married off, their status in the family was already low.

Even knowing that her mother didn’t have a high regard for her future sister-in-law, she dared not provoke her directly, still trembling when recalling the beatings from her childhood even now nearly in her thirties.

"Keep your voice down, if mom hears you, she won’t spare you," Zheng Zhaodi scolded her sister with a frown.

Zheng Qiudi immediately retorted resentfully, "You’re talking no less than I am."
