The First Mythical Dragon: Harem System-Chapter 238: Information Gatherer
"Hold on, I think I know who can help." Max suddenly snapped his fingers after a deep thought as he pulled out his smartphone and began scrolling through it with focused movements.
"Huh? Who's that? Who are you trying to contact?" Jake asked with a raised eyebrow, curiosity written all over his face.
"Just shuuush for a while." Max muttered as he finally found the contact he was searching for.
He instantly dialed it and placed the call on loud speaker.
After a few rings, a beautiful feminine voice poured out from the phone.
"Hey darling, you are calling after a while? Tsk, not fair, I have missed you so much, missed your touch, your kiss, and most especially y…"
"Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, I'm currently on loud speaker with the others." Max swiftly cut her off while clearing his throat in between words.
The boys in the room stared at him in pure shock, mouths hanging slightly open as they froze before struggling to contain their laughter.
One snicker slipped out, then another, until they were barely holding themselves back.
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry." Kelly quickly apologised, clearly embarrassed on her end of the line.
"How is the town? How is the bar and the gang members doing?" Max asked as he sat upright, trying to refocus the call.
"Surprisingly, they are behaving well lately. Even though you aren't here, they haven't caused trouble.
The bar is running nicely, we are gaining more and more customers, some coming from outside the town.
And I must say, the gang members are actually kind. I guess bad leadership made everyone think they were terrible. Some customers tried messing with me and the members stepped forward immediately.
Ever since then, the customers have been polite. We are making more money than ever. The townspeople are happy because they are no longer being extorted of ridiculous amounts. So yes, things are going smoothly here." Kelly explained.
The trio paused for a moment, processing her surprising update. Max cleared his throat softly and continued.
"Okay, that is good to hear. Now on to why I called," Max said.
"I need your information gathering skills once more Kelly, this is important."
"I'm all ears. You should know I will do anything you ask, just say the word my charming dragon." Kelly replied instantly.
"Once again, I'm on loud speaker." Max scolded with a low, flustered tone as his cheeks grew red.
Seeing this, the boys finally burst into loud laughter they had been holding back for too long.
"I am sorry." Kelly repeated quickly.
"Let it be. Now, I need your help." Max said as the boys quietened down.
"We plan on doing something and it involves finding someone loyal from the gang. Not just loyal, they should be strong and willing to do anything for the group.
Since you are there, I am wondering if anyone has caught your eyes recently."
"Someone who has caught my eyes recently?" Kelly repeated, completely forgetting about the audience as she paused, no doubt thinking hard.
The boys leaned closer, waiting patiently, their hearts beating softly from anticipation.
"Yes! There has been someone." Kelly suddenly shouted, making the boys lean in even further.
"But the issue is that they aren't part of the gang."
"Huh? Meaning?" Jake asked loudly, knowing she could hear him perfectly.
"A few days ago, on my way to the bar late at night, some teenagers tried stealing from me.
They cornered me in an alleyway and were planning to do unimaginable things to me when another teenager, although he looked more like an adult, appeared.
He tried talking things through calmly with the others but they refused, so a brawl broke out. And he dealt with them easily. I am talking about five V one." Kelly emphasized the last part strongly, as if the detail mattered deeply.
She paused again before adding, "He fought like someone with experience. Quick, precise, and serious.
After dealing with them, he checked if I was hurt before walking away. No bragging, no unnecessary talk. Just a quiet stranger who saved me."
"That is indeed impressive." Jim commented as he nodded his head in approval, his eyes narrowing slightly as he imagined the scene.
"Okay? Anything else?" Max asked with a raised eyebrow, leaning forward as if trying to drag more information out of Kelly through the phone.
"Hmm… let me see…" Kelly paused for a few seconds in deep thought. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The boys waited silently until the sharp snap of her fingers echoed through the speaker.
"Yes, one thing. After the teenagers were beaten down, he said something that really stood out to me."
"What did he say?" Jake asked, voice steady but his curiosity spiking.
"He said, 'Why bother trying to be tough when you can't simply defend yourselves. It's obvious there's no life for us deliquents, so we all want to join a gang.
But which gang would want to take in weaklings like you when you can't even defeat a single person? Tsk, pathetic.'"
"Deliquents huh?" Jake muttered as he rubbed his temples, trying to process the stranger's mindset.
"Now about his loyalty, I do not know that yet. But if he could step in for a stranger like me without hesitation, and without knowing who I am or what I represent, then he might be a solid candidate for whatever you boys are planning. He is strong, skillful, bulky and surprisingly disciplined." Kelly added with certainty in her tone.
"Do you know anything else about him?" Jim asked from where he sat.
"Not really, but I can find out. Max knows how fast I am at gathering intel." Kelly replied confidently, almost proudly.
"Great. Do us a favour. Gather everything you can about him. Who he is, what he does, where he stays, everything. Do not approach him, I repeat, do not go near him. Just watch and report back." Jake instructed firmly.
"Sure, I will get to work on that." Kelly responded.
"Good. I'll be expecting your feedback soon." Max added, and without waiting for her to say something embarrassing again, he hung up swiftly.
Max let out a long sigh as he pocketed his phone. "So what now? What's the next step?"
"The next step is that we wait for Kelly's report while we look for someone in the gang who can be our personal driver.
I will find a way to swindle some more money from my family to get our car." Jake replied with a heavy exhale as he pushed himself up from the chair.
"Well, I'll be here taking a nap. I'm kind of exhausted." Max said as he stretched his limbs before lying down on his bed with a groan.
"Sure, you do that, mister charming dragon." Jake burst into loud laughter along with Jim as the dragon glared at them, his eyes flashing bright yellow.
"Now that sounds gay to me. Tch!" Max scoffed and hurled his pillow at them before turning around in irritation and drifting off to sleep.
