The First Mythical Dragon: Harem System-Chapter 239: A Dangerous Mission
"Ahh, I'm exhausted." Jim yawned loudly as he collapsed onto Jake's bed while Max could be seen striding forward and sinking onto his own bed with a deep sigh.
"I wonder, doesn't your roommate care about where you go? You spend all your time in our room and only return to your room when it's bedtime. Can't you just stay in your own room for once?" Jake asked, a deep frown etched across his face.
"My bed keeps smelling, Jim, Jim, Jim." He muttered with a scowl as he grabbed the chair and plopped onto it.
"Get used to it, I'm a national treasure." Jim chuckled heartily, leaning back as if proud of himself.
"National treasure? Who would want a bozo like you? Tsk!" Jake scoffed with a sharp frown.
"Yes, I'm a national treasure because soon, I will be wanted by an entire demon race. I'm a demon, remember?" Jim retorted, his smirk playful yet cheeky.
"And who told you they want a weakling like you? You are no threat to them." Jake chuckled silently, shaking his head.
"Say that to the twenty-five demon vessels I battled against in the town of Slough." Jim snapped back, a vein twitching at the side of his forehead.
"Honestly, I don't blame you. It's the person who turned you that I blame." Jake scoffed, leaning back in his seat.
"What did you say?!" Jim shouted, ready to lunge forward.
"Guys! Like for real? I left the canteen because of the chattering girls and now you both are acting exactly like them? Can't you keep quiet and think for once? Do you want to blow my head apart with all this noise? My ears are sensitive, damn it." Max glared at them, teeth grinding in frustration.
"No peace for the wicked." Jim chuckled as Jake turned toward him and they both burst into uncontrollable laughter.
"I will…"
"Hey guys, we are back again to continue from where we stopped." Voices rang out as the door opened and Jasmine, Lana, and Daki walked in, their expressions a mix of amusement and curiosity.
"Oh great, and they're here too." Max groaned, collapsing onto his bed in defeat.
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Lana asked, frowning as she glared at the dragon.
"Meaning that now, my ears are gonna bleed." Max replied with a sharp glare that matched hers.
"You should be grateful we are here to keep you company. You two are always stuck, cooped up in your room. Heavens know what you guys are even doing to each other." Daki facepalmed, staring at the trio with a mix of exasperation and disbelief.
"What are you talking about? That we… we are?" Jake stammered, cheeks red.
"I said absolutely nothing." Daki replied with a silent chuckle, shaking her head at him.
"Now this is exactly what I was worried about." Max groaned, dragging his palm across his face.
"This room is turning into a debate arena. My head…"
"You're a dragon, fly away then." Jasmine interrupted, scoffing slightly and crossing her arms.
"If only I had the ability to freeze humans, I would have frozen all of you by now." Max muttered, frowning as he grabbed his pillow and slammed it over his ears, hoping to block out the inevitable chaos.
"By the way, we haven't taken any missions in a while. Shouldn't we be working? It's been a long time since we went out as a team." Lana asked, a raised eyebrow emphasizing her curiosity.
"Work, work, work. Don't you know anything other than that?" Jim glared at her, annoyance flashing across his face.
"No, I don't. Unlike you, I aim to keep growing stronger and earning more money. After all, I have a family business to inherit, and I need to prove that I'm capable of handling it responsibly." Lana countered, her tone firm and determined.
"I would have loved to take up a mission too, but the ones I've seen so far aren't befitting of our squad or status." Jake replied thoughtfully. "Besides, if there was a better mission, the association would have in…"
His words were suddenly cut off by a loud beeping sound.
Everyone instinctively reached for their comm devices, slipping them out of their pockets, and seeing this, a grin crept across Lana's face.
"Finally, a mission worthy of our attention." She smiled widely, excitement lighting up her expression.
"You don't even know the details yet," Jasmine muttered, her frown deepening as she glared at Lana with a mixture of disbelief and caution.
"Doesn't matter. As long as the association recommended it to us, it's definitely worth our time." Lana replied confidently, her grin unwavering.
"And don't forget, it could also be dangerous," Jim chimed in, his brow furrowed as he glanced at the group.
"Oh please, pussy boy, I'm sure it's nothing we can't handle. Right, Jake?" Lana asked, turning to the male hybrid who had been silent, staring intently at his comm device as though lost in thought.
Hearing his name, Jake finally snapped out of his daze and looked up, expression grim.
"Actually, Jim is right. This is dangerous," he said, his voice low and heavy with unease.
"How so?" Max asked, raising an eyebrow. "For you to react like that, it must be bad. So just how bad is it?"
"Real bad," Jake replied, his tone dropping even further, causing Jasmine's heart to pound wildly in her chest.
"Well, what's the mission about? I'm already panicking here," Jasmine admitted, trying to steady her wildly beating heart as fear threatened to overtake her.
"It's a portal break. All the beasts emerging from the portal are of king-tier strength.
There's a boss among them, but the association can't determine its rank because it keeps shifting, making it almost impossible to judge.
We are to treat it as extremely serious." Jake said, rapidly tapping his comm device with focused intensity.
"How serious? What rank could it possibly be?" Daki asked, brows furrowed in worry. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"The boss could be a tier above king-tier. Meaning it could be a legendary-tier beast or, even worse, an emperor-tier," Jake replied gravely.
"Or even worse, a demi-god tier, just one step below the strongest rank," Jasmine whispered, her heart racing faster than it should.
"Fuck, this is really bad indeed," Lana gulped loudly, feeling her palms begin to sweat despite her usual bravado.
