The Forbidden Heiress At The All Male Alpha Academy-Chapter 128: Special Eyes
Ava went very still.
She didn’t look angry or defensive, she just went silent.
For a long moment, Ava didn’t speak. Theo didn’t know what she was thinking, and instantly cursed herself for being so darn poky and curious. Now she had made the girl uncomfortable.
Then, Ava smiled warmly, "How did you figure it out?"
"I...I...," Theodora swallowed, suddenly unsure, "I saw the way you were looking at everything and I guess I got curious and watched you,"
"No wonder it felt like you wanted to rip me open with your eyes," She chuckled.
"So, you’re really -"
"Blind, yes," Ava replied
All the pieces slammed together at once. But right now, Ava was staring into Theo’s eyes like any normal person would. Blind people usually stared without focus.
"How do you see?" Theo whispered.
"I see by feeling," Ava replied, "I feel everything around me. With one sense gone, all the others are much more heightened than other wolves. Even more heightened than an Alpha. The air shifts when someone moves, no matter how little. Aura presses differently depending on distance, no matter how much you think you’ve concealed it, and scent tells me your height, mood and everything else. And I can sense things that aren’t moving, I can tell how they feel within even touching them,"
Theo was bewildered, "That’s amazing. Does anyone know?
Ava shook her head immediately, "You’re the first person to figure it out," She lowered her voice, "If anyone did, they’d think it’s a weakness, or worse, something to exploit. And as you witnessed, I’m already being looked down upon even before they know I’m blind,"
Theo thought about Cain.
"Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone," She said without hesitation.
"Don’t go making a promise like that!"
"I mean it," Theo said, "I know what it’s like to survive by pretending,"
That made Ava go quiet.
"That’s why I knew," Ava said softly.
"Knew what?"
"That you weren’t Thaddeus."
Theo’s pulse spiked. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"I don’t see faces," Ava continued. "But I feel the truth. And when you hugged me that day... your body told a different story than the one you were wearing,"
Theo exhaled shakily. She didn’t know how to keep hiding it from Ava anymore. Not when the girl could literally already see through her without even having sight.
Ava reached out slowly, giving Theo time to pull away if she wanted to. When Theo didn’t, Ava’s fingers brushed lightly against her wrist.
"You share your soul with another," Ava said quietly, "And you’re tired,"
Theo’s throat burned.
Ava withdrew her hand, "Your secret is safe with me," she said. "Just like mine is with you,"
Theo nodded, emotion thick in her chest, "Thank you."
They stood there for a moment, two girls hidden behind lies in a place that rewarded truth with punishment.
Then Ava added, almost casually, "By the way,"
Theo looked at her.
"The girl who kicked me earlier?" Ava smiled faintly, "She’s terrified of fire. Even though she pretends she isn’t,"
Theo blinked. "...How do you know that?"
Ava’s eyes shimmered a bit, "Some fears scream," she said, "You don’t need sight to hear them,"
Ava wasn’t just blind. She was dangerous in a way no one had ever seen before. But she didn’t seem like the type that used her gift against anyone. If Theodora was the one with this type of gift, she probably would have burned Expensive boots to a crisp by now.
"That’s amazing," Theo said.
"Now," Ava crossed her hand questioningly, "I’ll ask again. Why do you look exactly like my boyfriend, and what are you doing here at Gravemont?"
Theo answered the question.
Ava gripped Theo’s hand, worried, "Did they get to the underground house safely? Can I go and visit him?" Ava sighed, "He never returned my calls for months, before we resumed. I thought he had moved on, I never knew he was kidnapped. Oh my God, I wish I could see him right now,"
Theo rubbed her arm softly, "You will, soon, hopefully,"
"When do you think all this Cain fiasco will be over?"
Theo scoffed out a painful laughter, "Probably when he’s dead, or when I’m dead, or when he finally gets his hand on me," She whispered.
"I’m sorry," Ava whispered, and sat down.
Theo went down with her. They sat next to each other, silence enveloping them for a while.
"You were cool back there, you know," Ava mentioned, breaking the silence, "When you scared the girls away. Though I’m not sure Heather’s gonna be thrilled with the way you slapped her,"
Theo threw her head back and laughed, "She was reminding me of someone I didn’t like, and you know, she deserved that slap, so...,"
"She did," Ava said softly.
Theo looked up at the injury on her head. It had stopped bleeding and was healing. "Why do you let them bully you like that? You gotta stand up for yourself,"
Ava smiled weakly, "When you’ve got no one by your side, it’s easy for rich, spoilt brats from strong wolf families to think they can walk all over you. I mean, it’s how the wolf hierarchy is structured. The strong trample on the weak. In Gravemont and in the Luna Academy, only the strong survive,"
"And that should tell you that you’re strong too, since you attend Luna academy,"
"What’s the use?" Ava shook her head like she had already given up, "I’m gonna still end up under an Alpha, and my role would be fixed to giving birth to as many males as I can for him,"
"Well, I won’t accept that for myself," Theo said strongly, staring up at the ceiling, "Just because I’ve given up on being my father’s heir doesn’t mean I’ve given up on being my own Alpha. I won’t let my gender decide who I should be. I’ll just have to make the world bend to my will and strength, easy!"
Ava stared at Theo intently. She’s never met anyone this determined, and although it seemed so very hopeless, it still made Ava smile even more. She had long given up on that notion even though she was also her father’s first child and wanted to be the heir, but Theo, despite everything, refused to give up.
It was very encouraging.
"You make it sound so simple," Ava told her.
"It’s not, it won’t be, I know," Theo looked at Ava, and Ava almost gasped as she felt an unquenchable fire burning through Theo’s veins, "But I’ll make it happen. Someday, somehow,"
