Chapter 129: My Booth

It wasn’t a coincidence when Theo and Ava walked into the Boneyard together. Heads snapped in their direction, and whispers followed them everywhere.

Theo was already used to the unnecessary attention, but Ava wasn’t. Her shoulders raised in defence, and she ducked her head down as if that would protect her.

To the both of them, they were just females trying to manoeuvre their lives, but to everyone else, they were a couple, or rather, close to becoming one.

Theo doesn’t think keeping Ava close was a good idea, since Cain has his eyes on her, but Ava clung close. Despite everything Theo had told her about Cain, she still chose to remain close.

It was a stupid idea, but Ava could see more than any of them. Maybe she was doing this for a reason.

And especially today, the Boneyard was filled to the brim. That was because the school had given an order that an announcement would be passed tonight, at this location.

With the visiting females, every seat had been taken. So when Ava and Theo filled their trays and looked around, there was no place to sit.

"I think we should just go," Ava murmured next to her, her voice stiff, "There’s no place to go and everyone keeps talking and staring,"

"Maybe I should bully some of the second years into giving up their seats?" Theo murmured back to her, an amused gleam in her eyes.

"Are you out of your mind?!" Ava exclaimed in a hush.

Just then, both Ava and Theo felt a hand press at their backs. Ava’s breath hitched as if she’d just been caught doing something bad, while Theo just rolled her eyes.

"Aurelius, what do you want?"

"You both seem to be having trouble finding where to crash tonight," Aurelius said.

Theo turned to him subtly and immediately noticed. That smug face was still there at all, but this time there was some tension in his shoulders, and there were a bit of dark circles under his eyes.

"You got somewhere for us to sit?" She asked.

Aurelius nudged both of them forward, "Let’s go,"

Ava and Theo arrived in front of the exclusive booths. Theo looked stricken while Ava had her mouth hanging open. Celeste was already there and had his eyes fixed on his meal, pretending none of it was happening.

"You want us to sit here?" Theo asked in awe.

"Yes," Aurelius sat down in his chair, then pointed at Ava, "You!"

She snapped her head up, still shaking in her boot.

"You can have Liam’s booth,"

She looked at it like it was purely forbidden to her, then back at Aurelius.

"You’re scaring my girlfriend," Theo said and placed a hand on her back. She felt Ava relax with that. "We’ll take Harrison’s booth," she said. Then, she lowered her voice. "Scratch that, we’ll take MY booth!"

Celeste looked up from his booth then, his eyes drifting between her and Ava. Aurelius’s eyes widened, watching both girls as they took their seats.

The moment they sat, the whole place erupted into more whispers. All the girls kept glancing their way, and Theo could feel Ava cowering under their gaze.

"Raise your head and look then right back in the eye," Theo said to her, her voice unwavering and her eyes boring into hers, "If you’re going to cling to me, I won’t tolerate weakness. You’re gonna have to be brave enough to stand up to people, and throw a punch when you need to,"

Ava’s eyes shook as she stared back.

"Don’t be afraid. You already know their weaknesses. They should be the ones scared of you,"

Ava slowly nodded her head at Theo, then managed to peek a glance at the sitting bodies stretched in front of her. She made it up to five seconds before she looked away.

Just then, Aurelius shoved their curtain open, "She knows?!" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Theo looked at him, then nodded.

"You’ve been good, right?" She returned.

"Why? You missed me?"

"No," She retorted softly, "You haven’t been nosy since we got back from the monthly break. I heard you left, too. Did something happen back at home?"

"What?"

"You seem a bit different," Theo dropped her fork and leaned toward him, staring at him because she could already see through him, "Like there’s a lot of your shoulders. Seems overwhelming," Her gaze softened, "What happened, Voss?"

Aurelius pulled back and looked back at his food. The smug smile was beginning to twitch at the edges and she noticed how he gripped his fork a little too hard, "Why do you care?"

"Because even though you have a large ego, a proud head, and all the other annoying qualities of an Alpha, you’re a good guy, Voss. And I don’t like seeing good people get in a tough situation, I can’t help it,"

He smiled at first, then looked at her, "There’s nothing you can do about it, redhead. It’s my problem,"

"Keeping my secret wasn’t your problem, but you did, regardless. This is not me trying to pay you back or anything, I just actually care,"

He turned back to his food.

She turned back to hers and sighed, "I don’t know what kind of relationship you think you have with me, but I know the kind I have with you. I think of you as a friend, a good one. Whenever you’re ready to talk, my ears will be available,"

Just then, Zeke walked into the boneyard. His glare was three times crueller, and when he saw her sitting there, it became ten times worse. Everyone scattered out of his way as he approached the booth.

Goodness! He seemed to be in a really really bad mood today.

Theo stiffened as he sat down in his booth right next to them. The curtains keeping them apart did nothing to lessen the dark aura pouring from him.

Ava had gripped Theo’s arm.

"He’s dying...," Ava whispered, almost inaudible, "He’s haunted and lost and angry. It’s so much for one person...,"

It was, and Theo’s grip tightened on her plate. She had lost her appetite and she couldn’t take it anymore.

For weeks, she’s been trying to talk to him. He’s always pretended she wasn’t there, always ignored her like she never existed. Nothing she tried had gotten through to him, and whenever their eyes met coincidentally, he would glare like she was everything he hated.

Maybe she was.

She had done him a great deal of pain and damage.

And for him to stop dying, he needed to accept the mate bond and let them mate. But he wouldn’t even look at her!

She was done waiting. She was done giving him space. She was done being soft. It wasn’t the wisest choice, but she wasn’t making any progress with the wise one.

Zeke would have to listen to her, whether he liked it or not!

Just then, Two Professors alongside the Commandant walked into the Boneyard.
