Chapter 225: Changing season

Marvin recalled how the man who was fortunate to be Joanna’s husband looked that day.

He was utterly mad, showing ultimate anger and disappointment about the security system in Terra. He even fiercely complained about the zero result of all their agendas to capture the Tres. No result was obtained since he first heard about the Tres being back in action when he was in Seidel. The safety policy structure was still fragile, beyond fragile.

He had not even received any report about the investigation of the Tres that he captured in the Powel Orphanage. And then, knowing they took action again, even touching the person who was dear to him, putting her life in danger, who would not get angry and mad.

Marvin understood that very well.

"General von Rodega said that all of them could sit still as if not affected by what the Tres had done because none of their family became the victims. With that reason, he asked them to imagine, to put themselves in his shoes or the families of the victims’ shoes, who almost or had lost the ones that were dear to them."

Fixing his gaze on Joanna’s face before directing them on the bandage on her neck, he thought inwardly of what would happen to her if he was late by a second that night to throw the dagger on that pungent man after he managed to kill the other annoying two of them?

"That’s all I can share with you, Ann. For the rest, you may ask your husband, as he is more knowledgeable in that matter than me." Marvin thought that he had shared enough, and it would not be wise to talk more than what he had shared with Joanna.

On the other side, Joanna was in complete silence, as she only focused on hearing all the words Marvin shared with her and tried to digest all of them while steadying her trembling hands by clasping them on her lap as she had now leaned back against the back of the chair.

Finally, she had gained some information about the situation that involved and was faced by her husband and seemed to make him unable to make himself back home.

"Well..." Joanna trailed before taking a pause when she noticed her voice trembling. Clearing her throat as an attempt to make her voice more steady, she said, "Thank you for sharing this information with me, Marvin." Joanna offered Marvin a warm smile, hiding her anxiety in her pounding heart. "I appreciate it a lot."

She actually had a lot of questions to ask Marvin, but she chose not to make any further questions, as she sensed that Marvin was reluctant to talk more than he had shared with her.

Besides, she agreed with Marvin. She had considered that, for all she wanted to know further, she would ask directly to Canillas when they met later. At least, the little bit of information that Marvin had shared with her was enough to help her grasp what was experienced by her husband, extinguishing a trace amount of her worry and curiosity.

Joanna also realized that her action just now had made Marvin wonder how she did not know about that matter, as the surprising look on Marvin’s face was clearly expressed. However, Joanna did not bother to act as if she knew everything, pretending that her husband, who had not gone back home, shared anything that had happened with her.

Because she genuinely wanted to know about his wellbeing and whereabouts. Other perception, she preferred to push it aside.

"Anything that I can do to help you, Ann," replied Marvin with a nod and a smile. Looking down at his pocket watch, Marvin then said, "I think it is time for me to go back to my duty. Else Admiral Vich will give me a red mark on my report card." A grin plastered on Marvin’s face, to which Joanna nodded her head and grinned back.

"When are you going back to Seidel?" asked Joanna as they rose from the chairs.

"Well, I am not sure about that. It depends on Admiral Vich," Marvin answered, tidying his uniform before taking his uniform cap that he put on the table next to where his now empty cup lay. "Why? Do you need anything from me to help?" He inquired, putting the cap on his head. The top of his platinum blonde hair was now covered with the navy blue colored cap.

Joanna shook her head. "Just want to say take care, Marvin. Come visit Barasca if you have any spare time."

For a moment, Marvin took a momentary pause as he watched the smiling face of the lady before him. "I will," he then uttered with a small smile, removing his gaze from the alluring smile towards her eyes. "And you... When are you leaving for Archess?"

Upon hearing the question, Joanna turned away before taking a step forward, walking across towards the mansion, leaving the back garden behind. "Any time soon." While answering, Joanna fixed the shawl that draped around her shoulders as suddenly she felt the breeze turn colder.

With that having been said, Marvin did not utter any words. He just walked behind Joanna, watching her back in silence, before matching his steps beside her.

"So..."

"So..."

Laughter broke between Marvin and Joanna, who faced each other on the porch in front of the mansion, as they said the same word at the same time.

"See you next time, my lady. Thank you for accepting me here, and please take care of yourself well anywhere you are." It was a few words of all the many words he wanted to say when the laughter subsided and was replaced with a smile that was too small to be regarded as a smile.

"See you next time, Marvin. It’s always an honor to have you here," Joanna responded with a broad smile, a stark contrast to what was shown on Marvin’s face. "Please take care of yourself too and come to Barasca when Brother Phillip returns. Of course, if you do have time for that." A bright visage was still depicted by Joanna, not because she was happy to send Marvin off, but because she tried to cheer herself, hiding her dislike towards separation with someone who had meaning in her life.

Smiling at each other for a certain period of time after Marvin gave his positive response, Marvin offered a polite bow to Joanna, which she returned in the same courteous manner.

Step after step was taken by Marvin before getting away from the one that he had kept dearly in his heart, like the changing season that began to wither the flowers, leaving the trees bare.
