THE GOD EATER-Chapter 178: Giant Smasher.
At this point, their short conversation had drawn the attention of the others on the airship. The newcomers were the most interested in the topic of their conversation. They all crowded around the mech to examine it. The veterans had seen too much of the mech before, so they weren’t interested in it now.
Just like Loki did, some of them whistled in appreciation as they examined the mech. Others exclaimed or gasped. Their reactions were varied, but they were all because they were impressed by the mech.
Loki had had enough of the mech, so he stepped back and stood at the farthest point from where Greg was. This point was at the very front of the airship, and it granted him a wide view of everything going on on the deck.
As he kept an eye on everyone and everything, he said to himself, "It is a good thing that he brought his mech for this mission. If he hadn’t, I would have been sure that he planned to kill all of us on this trip."
"Then again, we are attacking a fortress city. His Life Ability alone might not be good enough to do that, which is why he brought his mech along. He can still have the plan to kill all of us."
As the airship sailed through the air towards its destination, Loki’s mind was full of various conspiracies about this mission. But for now, he didn’t feel any regret.
He was still confident that he could handle anything that would come his way, so aside from suspicion and caution, he was also looking forward to earning merit points and gaining a Dao Status.
After 7 minutes of travel, his goal came within reach. The airship came upon a large city with tall, giant walls manned by giant guards.
The giants noticed the large airship from afar and quickly got to work defending the city. Someone activated the alarm, and every warrior in the city responded to the call and assembled for battle.
Their response is different from the behavior of the people of the Four Directions Sect because the army of the Martial Body Sect is like a conventional army. To them, every order has to be obeyed, and escaping for one’s life is a crime of treason.
This kind of crime isn’t one that they can escape from by paying a fine. They might actually lose their lives if they disobey orders in the Martial Body Sect.
So the warriors had no choice but to respond and defend the city. This meant that the city would not be easy to take as the warriors would fight tooth and nail until the last man to defend it.
Fortunately, their dedication to their work wasn’t a problem for the attackers. Loki and Greg were not discouraged by this sight. Only a few of them on the airship felt trepidation and some worries.
Their worries increased in severity when an energy shield was activated in the city, and a dome of blue glass covered the whole city. Those who were already worried when every warrior showed up for the defense became less confident when they saw the energy shield.
But the sight of that dome of blue glass only made Greg cackle. He rubbed his hands together like a fly as he said, "Time to show what the Giant Smasher can do."
He immediately pressed buttons in the control deck, which activated the guns. Then he trained the guns on one side of the airship on the city.
A few seconds later, there was a roar as the six cannons were fired. The six cannons erupted with smoke and ejected six exploding payloads at the glass dome.
The result was that six explosions occurred on the surface of the glass dome. This caused cracks to appear on the energy shield. The cracks were such that it could be determined at a glance that a few more cannon balls would bring down the energy shield.
However, the energy shield was also capable of healing, while the cannons would need time to reload. So things weren’t going to be as easy as they appeared to be at a glance.
Greg wasn’t willing to wait for the cannons to reload, so he turned the airship to the other side in order to let the six cannons on the other side of the ship fire at the energy shield.
Even though he had upgraded the engine, it would still take time for the ship to turn. So Greg directed the mech to activate and bombard the energy shields.
The job of the mech wasn’t to breach the energy shield. It was just to offset the healing of the energy shield and prevent the energy shield from nullifying all of the damage that the cannons had done to it before the next round of fire.
While the mech kept the energy shield busy, the airship turned and presented the other six guns to the city. Greg fired them quickly before turning the airship around.
He turned the airship in a circle and unloaded a barrage of explosive cannon balls on the city whenever the cannons lined up for a shot. Meanwhile, the mech kept the energy shield too busy to heal itself.
This configuration meant that the cracks on the energy shield could only get bigger and spread farther. At this rate, the energy shield would fall in five minutes. This caused the mood on the airship to improve.
But the mood of the warriors in the city had taken a nosedive when they realized that the energy wouldn’t be able to protect them before reinforcements arrived. However, they didn’t just wait for their deaths.
The warriors quickly mounted many balistae on the walls. Then they began firing at the airship. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The payload of the balistae was large barbed harpoons with ropes tied to one end. The goal was to use them to ensnare the airship and drag it to the ground, where its advantages would be nullified.
