THE GOD EATER-Chapter 268: Cave Heaven.
Where they went was not at the world barrier, but it was close to it. So their destination wasn’t the very edge of the Central Domain. It was just remote and hidden part of the Central Domain.
On their way there, he pulled his son aside on the airship and said to him, "I believe that the inheritance is the damaged cave heaven world of a divine being, so it is going to be dangerous."
Slav nodded in understanding, but he didn’t really understand, so he said, "What’s a cave heaven world, and why is it dangerous?"
In response, Skarg rubbed his mustache as he said, "The cave heaven of divine beings is their internal world. I heard it was created in their mind. I don’t know how they manage to do it, but I know that it is one of the foundations of the power of a divine being."
"There should be a lot of good things in this broken cave heaven, but since it is damaged, it is in danger of collapsing. That collapse can be accelerated by our presence, and the cave heaven can collapse with us within it. This is why it is so dangerous."
This time, Slav truly understood, so he said as he was nodding, "I understand."
Skarg said, "It is good that you do. I am telling you this so that you will know that we don’t have a lot of time to spend in it if I’m right and the inheritance turns out to be a broken cave heaven world."
"You are to grab whatever you can in five minutes. We can’t spend more than five minutes there, or we will be risking death."
Slav nodded in understanding, and Skarg gave more warnings and told him more things to watch out for. Despite all of these warnings, Skarg was still very excited by this trip.
The journey took them 8 days, which was because their destination was far and because they encountered a persistent storm for many days, which slowed them down. Even though the storm was heavy, they still managed to reach their destination relatively intact.
When they got there, what they found was a large and deep forest. There were no cities, towns, farms, or signs of civilization there. The whole place was a forest full of tall trees and powerful wild animals.
It was a daunting sight. Fortunately, the two of them were not alone on this journey. They went with Skarg’s human puppets, which made the journey here through the storm easier for them.
The father and son, together with the human puppets, made a total of ten people. This gave them the confidence to venture into the dark forest.
Their confidence was quickly put to the test because they were attacked as soon as they entered the forest. The whole journey through the forest was fraught with danger because it seemed everything in the forest hated them.
But they didn’t stop for anything. They killed anything that appeared to stop them.
They didn’t stop moving forward until they reached a large chasm in the ground. But even then, they only stopped to take a short rest before they continued the journey.
The chasm in the ground was so long and deep that it looked like the valley between two mountains. Since there were no mountains around, the chasm looked like a canyon.
The entrance to the canyon was hidden by trees and overgrowth. If they didn’t have a map, they wouldn’t have been able to find it. But even with a map, it was still difficult for them to navigate through the chasm because there were too many twists and turns in the path.
After they got through the entrance of the canyon, the canyon expanded in size, and more than one path appeared. These paths made the whole underground look more like a maze in the ground, not a canyon.
The farther along they went, the deeper into the ground they went, and the more humid it became. They also encountered more snakes, poisonous insects, scorpions, and dangerous frog monsters.
By this time, 5 out of the 8 human puppets had died from the attacks of various wild beasts. Skarg survived because of his great strength, while Slav survived due to luck.
Slav was only rank 1, but he was able to survive because he could sense good and bad fortune. He couldn’t sense the sources of danger from his environment, but he could sense if doing something was generally good or bad for him. The human puppets were not so lucky.
The only good news was that the space for movement became smaller and more cramped, so they stopped encountering large beasts. But things got so bad that they had to crawl on their hands and feet to continue their journey.
Fortunately, they managed to reach the end of the canyon. They appeared in a large cave with one of the walls painted with images drawn with black ink.
After Skarg made the human puppets clear the vines on the wall, they were able to tell that the images on the wall were an instruction on what to do next.
So Skarg said to Slav, "The rest is up to you now. You have to push one of the three rocks for the inheritance to show up."
There were three large rocks in the cave standing in a triangle at the center. According to the instructions, a proper inheritor will pick the rock that will unlock the inheritance and push it out of the triangle formation.
It was also written on the wall that failure to pick the right rock would lead to death. How they will die wasn’t stated, but the method didn’t need to be stated for Skarg to take the warning seriously.
So Skarg didn’t bother to test the rocks himself. He immediately set Slav to it, while he distanced himself from the rock. The distance was’t just to keep him safe from anything that might go wrong, but it was also to make sure that his presence wouldn’t interfere with the test.
