THE GOD EATER-Chapter 71: Death Envoy.
Death Envoy is a pale, thin woman with dark circles around her eyes. Her appearance is that of a sickly woman on the verge of death. However, her eyes are bright and lively, which dispels the aura of death clinging to her a little bit.
She was working on a corpse when Jim arrived. The corpse was on a table at the center of the room, and there were many transparent vats around the room with corpses in them.
Without looking up, she said to Jim, "What did he say?"
Jim fell to his knees before saying, "I told him about your plans for him, and he didn’t try to escape."
She said, "Oh. Does that mean he has accepted his fate?"
Jim hesitated slightly before saying, "He gives me a weird feeling because he didn’t appear too concerned that you accepted him, but you wanted to turn him into a zombie. He appeared to be more concerned about how I could accept living like that."
"But he didn’t argue with me or show any rebelliousness. So either he accepted his fate, or he is smart enough to hide his intentions from me. I doubt the latter because I was helpful and I acted in a way to make him trust me."
In response, she said, "Hmm. Good job. You deserve to be rewarded."
Her remark about his performance brought a smile to his face. His smile became wider when he heard what she said next.
"Continue to watch him for me. That will be your mission until I change my mind. Make sure that the Viking Blade Society and the Rein Family won’t get to him before I do."
"Watch him day and night, and you will be handsomely rewarded. Is that clear?"
He nodded eagerly and said, "All is clear, my lord. I will watch him like a hawk."
She said, "Good. Now leave."
He scrambled up and left as quickly as he could. The underground room was cold, and the air was chilling to the bone, but Jim didn’t feel this. All he felt was excitement because he had landed a lucrative job.
His excitement reached its peak when he received his payment for escorting Loki and helping him to settle down. This reward was higher than normal because he helped the leader of the society with her plans to procure excellent raw materials for her cultivation.
He didn’t lie once with everything he said. In fact, he told the truth on purpose so that Loki would trust him. That’s why he told Loki that he was doomed to become raw material for cultivation.
However, he didn’t tell Loki that information just because he was kind. His ultimate goal was to make Loki aware of his fate and accept it as soon as possible instead of doing something stupid in resistance.
It is true that there is life after death, and one’s death can be made to have value in this life. But very few cultivators are actually willing to die.

Even if the value of someone’s life is high enough to pay for their awakening in the next life, it is common sense that they should live longer and find more ways to increase their value, instead of dying.
It is only those who have inherited debts from their previous lives that understand that the sect doesn’t enforce the concept of life after death just because they are generous.
And only those who have been forced into a lifetime of slavery by the sect to pay off their several lifetimes of debt will wish that the possibility of life after death and reincarnation didn’t exist.
It is only those people who know that the main reason why the sect keeps track of their members after death is to ensure that they can keep track of their debtors and make sure that not even death will be enough to make someone escape their death.
Lastly, there is the fact that cultivators won’t be the same in their next life because they lack the memories that make them who they are. So no one wants to die and inherit the debt of someone they don’t know, or die and let someone they don’t know inherit all of the money they worked hard for.
All of these reasons make it so that both the poor and rich cultivators don’t want to die, even if their death has value and even if there is life after death. Death Envoy is willing to do this because she values Loki’s spirit highly. As a cultivator of the Death Pathway, she is very sensitive to the power of souls, so she sensed that Loki’s soul was powerful right from the moment she laid the eyes of her zombie puppet on him.
Even though it was her zombie puppet that went in her place and saw Loki, she was still able to recognize that he was special from her position here in the underground of the headquarters. That’s how good she is at spotting spiritual talent.
The fact that he can raise his spirit to the limit of rank 2 so early means that his spirit was already within the boundaries of rank 2. This is why she decided to stand up for him, let him join her society, and protect him from the Rein Family.
