THE GOD EATER-Chapter 72: Tag Along.
Jim, who had gained a new lease on life and had become hopeful for his future, began doing his job in earnest. He quickly went to change his clothes and his appearance. Then he went to find Loki and began trailing him everywhere.
Jim thought that he was doing his job well, but Loki was able to notice him following along right from the first day. This was thanks to the Telepathy Metac of the Mind Pathway.
Appearances can fool the eyes, but they are useless against someone who can see the mind. Loki still can’t read minds yet because he can’t find the Mind Reading Metac, but he can still tell the color and shape of someone’s mind apart from others when such a mind is following him around.
The first thing that came to his mind when he noticed that someone was following him was that the Rein Family was after him. But then he remembered that he had seen that same mind early today, so he became confused as to why Jim would be following him.
But after confusion came greed. The fact that Jim was following him around gave Loki some thoughts about how to get the rank 2 Metac that he needs.
So he said to himself with a smile, "He is not a forger. He is a Mind Hunter, so devouring his Core Metac will be useful too."
The more he thought about it, the more he liked this idea. So he decided not to confront Jim and expose the fact that he had noticed that he was being tailed.
Instead of doing something so wasteful, he let Jim continue to follow him around while he visited gambling houses like a gambling addict.
When he wasn’t at gambling houses, he would go home to refine his Dao Heart. He didn’t bother taking any missions to earn money.
Any free time he had was spent going around, asking questions, and learning new things. He lived his life like this for one month.
After one month of living as a full member of the Four Directions Sect and exploring the city, Loki suddenly felt fed up with the city and decided to explore the world beyond the city.
According to what he heard from asking people questions this past two months, the Blessed Heaven World has five domains. These domains are the North, South, East, West, and Central Domains.
Each domain is said to have a separate biome and a wall that separates it from the other domains. Cultivators say that each domain behaves like an independent world to the extent that the people who are born within one domain will find it nearly impossible to reincarnate in another domain after death.
So, coupled with the large size of each domain, most cultivators will never be able to leave the domain they were born in, even after many lifetimes.
Loki thought that this was a shame and was hell-bent on proving everyone wrong, so he decided to go on a trip to another domain as soon as he possibly could. He told people about his intentions, but they all laughed him off.
Jim also heard about Loki’s plans. Just like everyone else, he didn’t believe Loki could do it. But unlike other people, he didn’t believe Loki was telling the truth about his plans.
Jim was sure that Loki was just using this as an excuse to escape the influence of the Death Claw Society. And even if Loki was serious about leaving the Central Domain, Jim was also sure that this could only be motivated by an intention to escape from the deadly claws of the Death’s Envoy.
So he said to himself, "What a naive and ignorant young man to think he can escape his destiny. But this is good too. It means I will have work to do and be able to earn more."
He made up his mind to use this opportunity to earn more from the Death’s Envoy, so he quickly followed Loki out of the city.
Once they got outside the city, his suspicions were validated when Loki left the road, went into the forest, and began running. He became sure that Loki was truly trying to escape, which made him smirk in amusement.
The central plains, as a domain, lack mountains. Half of the landscape is occupied by forest and jungles, while the other half is occupied by grass fields.
The city Loki lived in is called Condor City because it was initially built by a man named Condor. Condor City is surrounded by grassland and farmland for miles. But beyond the farmlands are thick jungles that surround it on all sides.
There are three roads that lead out of the city towards other settlements. These roads are extensions of the North, West, and East roads in the city.
Loki took the North Road, which is directly opposite the sect grounds. Then, when he reached the edge of the forest, he rushed into it.
Jim wasn’t as physically strong as Loki, but he didn’t need to be fast to keep up with Loki because the forest slowed Loki down. Besides, all he needs to do is keep track of Loki’s position.
He has already informed the Death’s Envoy of Loki’s little adventure. She seemed unworried and only told him to keep watch of Loki until he reached the edge of the territory of Condor City.
She didn’t think that Loki would be able to escape because he was too weak to traverse the world with his current cultivation. So she wasn’t worried at all.
According to the instructions she gave him, if Loki somehow reaches the edge of the territory, Jim is to inform her again. Only then will she do something about Loki’s suicidal behavior.
Fortunately, Loki didn’t reach the edge of the territory before he turned back. This made Jim sigh in relief because his cultivation was also too weak to traverse the forest safely.
He said to himself, "Money is good, but one has to be alive to spend it."
