Chapter 112: Chapter 112 Wild Fruit

Ling Feng was somewhat speechless as he looked at Chen Gang and said, "Mr. Chen, can you please focus on the main point here? What’s wrong with us renting a room together? Isn’t it just to lure these guys out?"

Even though he had saved his daughter and himself before, Chen Gang still looked down on Ling Feng. After all, he was a man without money or power, so he coldly said, "That’s still not acceptable. You’ve tarnished my daughter’s reputation, can you afford the responsibility for that?"

"Dad! Can you stop talking?" Chen Yuhe, clearly displeased, came over and said.

Chen Gang reluctantly looked at her and didn’t continue the conversation, but instead asked, "Who are these people? Did you ask?"

"They said they are from the Luo Family of the provincial city," Chen Yuhe said.

"What?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Gang was stunned, and his complexion suddenly turned ugly!

Ling Feng had been watching him, and seeing this kind of expression, he couldn’t help but ask, "What’s the matter? Mr. Chen, are you really that fearful of the Luo Family?"

"Who said that? This matter has nothing to do with you anymore. Hurry up and take Yuhe away. Leave the rest to us!" Chen Gang glared at him as he spoke.

Ling Feng couldn’t have asked for better and immediately nodded, "Okay, then we’re leaving!"

After saying that, he went forward, took Chen Yuhe’s hand, and the two left the room.

After going downstairs and getting back across the street, Ling Feng threw all the big and small bags he had bought today into the back of the car, and after getting into the car, he let out a slight sigh.

"What’s the matter? Why the sigh?" Chen Yuhe asked.

Ling Feng looked at her and said, "What a shame, our good thing got messed up by those people!"

"You..."

Chen Yuhe was stunned, not expecting that to be his concern, and immediately rolled her eyes!

Seeing her face turn red, Ling Feng held back a smile and gently scratched Chen Yuhe’s nose, "Just kidding with you. I just think that today’s incident might be tricky to handle!"

After finishing speaking, he started the tricycle and slowly drove onto the highway.

Chen Yuhe was puzzled, "Why might it be tricky?"

"Didn’t you see that your father’s face changed the moment he heard about the Luo Family? Obviously, they wield substantial power, and he’s afraid he can’t compete with them!" Ling Feng said.

"I haven’t heard of any Luo Family, but they’re the ones who came to provoke us, not the other way around. No matter how powerful they are, they should speak with reason, right?" Chen Yuhe argued.

Ling Feng smiled and said nothing. If it really were a matter of reasoning, why would someone be sent to deal with a young girl?

But to avoid adding to her mental burden, he chose to remain silent.

By the time they returned to Shiliu Village, it was already past three in the afternoon. Upon entering the house and finding that Li Shiyun and Mo Jiaolan were not at home, Chen Yuhe immediately called them.

It turned out that the two had gone up the mountain to pick mushrooms. After last night’s heavy rain, not only had the mushrooms in Ling Feng’s place grown wildly, but the mountain’s mushrooms had also sprung up in abundance. People from the village went to the mountain in groups to gather them, and it was going to be another bountiful harvest today!

Hearing this, Ling Feng immediately remembered his task to collect mountain goods for the villagers and his face turned bitter!

Fortunately, by the time people returned from the mountain, someone had already come to the village to buy the mountain goods, so there was no need for his help, and everyone sold the mushrooms they had picked.

As for Li Shiyun and Mo Jiaolan, being city girls with little experience in mushroom picking, they didn’t gather much and decided not to sell theirs, but to take them home instead.

"Wow, you guys picked so many mushrooms, we can have mushroom soup tonight!" Chen Yuhe said excitedly after seeing various colored wild mushrooms in their bamboo baskets.

"Soup? That’s not the tastiest way to eat them. The best is definitely chicken stewed with mushrooms!" Ling Feng said.

Chen Yuhe’s spirits lifted immediately upon hearing this, "Right, then why don’t we stew one of the mountain chickens from your backyard?"

"Stop making trouble, each one of them weighs over a hundred pounds. Can you even finish it?" Ling Feng rolled his eyes.

"I don’t care, you promised chicken stewed with mushrooms, so that’s what I’m having tonight!" Chen Yuhe started to act spoiled.

Ling Feng helplessly said, "Alright, just wait, can’t I handle a single chicken?"

After saying this, he turned around, stepped out of the house, and after more than ten minutes, he came back with a big rooster in hand!

The three girls were squatting on the ground sorting and cleaning mushrooms. Seeing him return so quickly, they asked in unison, "Where did you get the chicken?"

"Bought it, of course. I had to pay a high price before they were willing to sell it!" Ling Feng said proudly.

He wasn’t lying; the big rooster was originally intended for crowing in Old Sun’s household. After nagging persistently, making all sorts of nice gestures, and offering two hundred yuan, Old Sun agreed with a pained expression on his face.

An hour later, a rich meaty aroma began to waft from the pot in Ling Feng’s home!

White, thick soup with chicken and mushrooms floating in it, just the sight alone was mouthwatering!

The four of them quickly got the dining table ready, and a large steaming pot of stew was served.

Ling Feng sat down, ready to feast, only to see Mo Jiaolan bringing over a plate filled with red fruits. He immediately asked with curiosity, "What are these?"

"Wild fruits. We found them in the mountains. Shiyun was incredibly agile; she climbed the tree in no time and picked a lot!" Mo Jiaolan explained.

"Wild fruits?"

Ling Feng thought it was strange, since he had roamed all the surrounding mountains since childhood and had never come across such fruits before!

Taking one and tasting it, he found it to be crisp, sweet, and full of a rich fruity scent. He couldn’t help but ask, "What kind of fruit is this?"

"If you don’t know, neither do we!" Mo Jiaolan shrugged her shoulders.

At that moment, Li Shiyun spoke up, "I asked the villagers, and nobody knows. They’ve never seen this fruit before either."

"Really? Where is it? I’ll go have a look tomorrow!" Ling Feng said.

"It’s at a small ravine on the south side of Little Beiwa, not far from here." Li Shiyun explained.

Ling Feng knew the place she mentioned and had never seen any fruit trees there before. The sudden appearance was indeed very strange!

He made a mental note to check it out since he had nothing else to do the next day; he was determined to find out what was going on.

Laughing and chatting, the four finished dinner, and the wild fruits were also eaten as an after-dinner treat.

After clearing off the dining table, Ling Feng went to the backyard, contentedly feeding the animals before returning to the house. He found the three girls looking depressed and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"The power went out last night, and it’s still not back!" Chen Yuhe said helplessly.

"You’re kidding? Doesn’t the power usually come back the next day?" Ling Feng scratched his head.

Li Shiyun glanced at him and said, "I called the electrician. He said our transformer is broken, and it seems to have been tampered with; we need to report it to the higher-ups!"

Ling Feng was speechless, knowing he had caused the trouble the night before but not daring to tell them.

However, seeing what seemed like a meaningful look in Li Shiyun’s eyes, he said, "Who would mess with a transformer for no reason? It’s just their laziness at fixing it. Shiyun, our village’s wiring is severely outdated. Can’t you talk to the town and have them properly fix it for us?"

"I already asked. It’s not under the town’s jurisdiction; the power department operates independently," Li Shiyun replied.

Now Ling Feng felt troubled; if the power outage continued, how would he proceed with his plans?
