The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 45 The Clever Chen Yuhe
The atmosphere at the table became somewhat awkward, and when Lu Yuan remained silent, Lan Fei got even angrier, pointing at Ling Feng and said, "I kindly invited you to get together, but you brought Miss Chen here instead, and accused me of social climbing. Ling Feng, who exactly is being despicable?"
"You’ve got it all wrong, I wasn’t talking about you. It’s just that some people lack confidence in themselves, as if they’re afraid you’ll be snatched away, even going so far as to specifically warn me to keep my distance from you. Isn’t that funny?" Ling Feng asked.
Lan Fei was taken aback, then turned to look at Lu Yuan, his expression making everything clear to her.
"I’ve already agreed to get engaged with you, don’t you trust me?" Lan Fei asked.
"I... I just felt that you’ve been in a bad mood lately, maybe because of Ling Feng’s appearance, so I just gave a small warning, that’s all," Lu Yuan explained.
"My mood has nothing to do with him!" Lan Fei said angrily.
Having said that, she turned and was about to leave the private room.
Seeing this, Xu Lu quickly got up, glanced at everyone, and then hurriedly followed after her.
"Lu Yuan, you should go after her too. Aren’t you going to console your angry girlfriend?" Chen Yuhe asked with a smile.
"Oh, Miss Chen, please sit for a moment, I’ll be right back," Lu Yuan said, relieved, and quickly got up.
Chen Yuhe also stood up, "No need, Ling Feng and I are going shopping, so I won’t stay."
After saying that, she dragged Ling Feng’s arm and left, while casting him an irritated glance: "Let’s go, what are you waiting for?"
"Alright."
Ling Feng smiled wryly, regretting involving Chen Yuhe in this class reunion. The girl was too blunt with her words, leaving no room for face-saving.
After they left the private room, Chen Yuhe still clung to his arm, and they headed downstairs.
Ling Feng noticed and said, "Didn’t you have a birthday party to attend?"
"No rush, let’s put on a full show and talk outside," she said.
They went downstairs and didn’t see Lu Yuan and the others, which suggested Lan Fei hadn’t left but had gone to another room instead.
"Who exactly is this Lu Yuan?" Ling Feng asked curiously.
"A rich second-generation with a bit of family money. And who’s that Lan Fei?" Chen Yuhe replied.
Ling Feng was a bit surprised, "You don’t know her? She works at Junlin Hotel."
"Is that so? No wonder she looked a bit familiar!" Chen Yuhe said, pulling him towards the parking lot.
"What for?" Ling Feng asked.
"Get in the car and I’ll explain," Chen Yuhe led him to a black SUV, opened the door, and got in.
Following her, Ling Feng got into the passenger seat, "Got a new car?"
"No kidding, the other one got burned. You still care about this? Didn’t you see it was a setup back there?" Chen Yuhe said, giving him a look.
"Of course, I noticed. Why else would I have asked for your help? It’s funny how Lu Yuan is so wary of you," Ling Feng laughed.
Chen Yuhe ignored him, scrolling through her phone for a number. After making a call, she asked, "You know about that Lan Fei, right? What’s her deal?"
The person on the other end said a few words, and Chen Yuhe responded with a couple of hums before hanging up.
"I asked around. Your first love is having some family issues. Apparently, her father is seriously ill and they can’t afford the treatment. It was Lu Yuan who paid to help her out, so she agreed to the engagement, probably as a way to show gratitude," she explained.
"Impressive, you found out all that!" Ling Feng was taken aback after hearing everything.
Chen Yuhe glanced at him sideways, "The county town is so small, with such a tight-knit circle. How are you feeling now? Uncomfortable, right?"
Ling Feng shook his head, "No, the first day I met Lan Fei, I knew we were no longer on the same page. I never thought about rekindling any old flames, today’s events were all their wishful thinking!"
"Really? Mainly because you’ve got someone on your mind, you’re secretly in love with that female village chief, right?" Chen Yuhe asked with a mischievous smile.
"Hey, how old are you, girl?" Ling Feng asked, dumbfounded.
"Twenty, why?"
Ling Feng curled his lip, "With your understanding of the ways of the world, I suspect you’re not twenty, at least sixty!"
"Get lost! Does your family’s sixty-year-old grandma have skin as smooth and elastic as mine?" Chen Yuhe retorted with a glance.
"Vain!"
The two started bickering again, but after a few words, Ling Feng couldn’t help but sigh, "Alright, it’s getting late. You should go back to work, and I should head home."
"It’s already dark, how will you get home?" Chen Yuhe asked.
"I’ve got a ride, right there, see?" Ling Feng pointed to the electric tricycle outside the car window.
Chen Yuhe burst into laughter at the sight, "You dare call that a ride? Stop kidding around!"
"I might not have money now, but just you wait. Sooner or later, I’ll be able to afford a car like yours too!" Ling Feng rolled his eyes and stepped out of the car.
Chen Yuhe also got out of the car, "Well then, good luck, and be careful on the road!"
"I know, thanks for today. I’ll treat you to a meal when I get the chance!" Ling Feng said, pushing the tricycle away.
Watching his retreating figure, Chen Yuhe smiled slightly, "You said it, don’t forget!"
"Forget everything else, but I can’t forget this. After all, you are my girlfriend!" Ling Feng called out without looking back, and then he sped off into the night.
Chen Yuhe stamped her foot in irritation, "Deadbeat, now he’s mooching off me. Next time we meet, see how I deal with you!"
Ling Feng rode his tricycle through the night wind, quickly leaving the county town and entering the rural road without streetlights.
The matter with Lan Fei was now closed, everything was her own choice, it was not for others to manage or help.
Thinking this, Ling Feng couldn’t help but shake his head, smiling bitterly to himself, "Really, what’s the point of overthinking it?"
The light of the tricycle wasn’t very bright, barely illuminating ten meters ahead, so he didn’t go very fast, and it took him over half an hour to arrive back at Shiliu Village.
By this time, all the households in the village had turned off their lights and gone to bed, only the village committee office still had a light on.
It was Li Shiyun’s dormitory. Ling Feng thought about stopping by to see what she was up to, but he felt it wasn’t appropriate, hesitated a moment, then drove home.
After entering the house, he took out his phone and sent Li Shiyun a message: "Haven’t gone to sleep yet?"
A few minutes later, Li Shiyun replied, "How did you know?"
"I just got back from outside, saw your light was still on," Ling Feng explained.
He expected her to continue the conversation, but until Ling Feng washed up and crawled into bed, there was no response from her—it seemed that the beautiful village chief was not fond of chatting.
Ling Feng didn’t mind and lay down to sleep, but unexpectedly, at that moment, someone knocked on his door. He quickly got up and asked, "Who is it?"
"It’s me, open the door!" Li Shiyun’s voice came through.
Ling Feng was startled, immediately stood up, not bothering to dress, and rushed to the door to pull it open.
