The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 155: Confrontation at the Police Station_1
"Gong Wugu? What are you doing here?" Officer Wang barked.
He knew Brother Gong.
Li Qing’s expression brightened; if Brother Gong knew Officer Wang, then his issue might be handled more quickly.
But before he could feel relieved, he saw Officer Wang ask Brother Gong with an ugly expression, "Did you start this?"
Li Qing’s heart turned to ashes in an instant.
It seemed that this acquaintance was not the kind he had thought.
Brother Gong tossed the two blond youngsters to the ground and sincerely replied, "Officer Wang, I’m also a victim. I nearly had my face washed with sulfuric acid. How could I have started this?"
"What are you doing here, then?" Officer Wang asked warily.
Brother Gong glanced at Li Qing, "I’m running errands and making deliveries now."
Officer Wang noticed Brother Gong’s look and couldn’t help sizing up Li Qing again with scrutiny in his eyes.
Li Qing felt a little uneasy under that gaze.
Clearly, Brother Gong didn’t have a good impression with Officer Wang, or perhaps he was even the kind of person who was on the blacklist.
And because he was now close with Brother Gong, he probably had been lumped in with him by Officer Wang.
That certainly wasn’t good news.
"What goods are you delivering?" Officer Wang asked again.
Brother Gong immediately stood at attention and replied, "Leaves, ah no, Wenguan Leaves."
"This item has been pretty popular around here recently. Our Lü Zong is also planning to get into it, to see how it goes."
Then, Officer Wang asked a few more questions.
Brother Gong answered each one obediently.
His docile appearance was almost like an elementary school student facing their homeroom teacher.
"Take them all away. Come back to the station with me to give a statement!" Officer Wang declared with a wave of his hand, his voice stern.
Li Qing hurriedly stepped forward, "Officer Wang, I have a small request. Could you let me arrange for someone to deliver this batch of goods first? Although it’s not much, it’s quite valuable."
Brother Gong also chimed in, "The law should accommodate human sentiment. Please be a bit flexible, Officer Wang."
"Arrange for someone to take care of it, and do it quickly!" Officer Wang said seriously.
Li Qing immediately called Shi Liang, told him about the situation, and asked him to hurry and figure out a way to pick up the goods.
Then he had Brother Gong find someone to come over and take the goods away.
All of this hustle and bustle took up nearly half an hour.
Officer Wang was patient, waiting until Li Qing had everything arranged, and after Shi Liang came to take the delivery and pay on the spot, he pocketed the money before leading everyone to the police station.
He even jestingly remarked to Li Qing that indeed Wenguan Leaves were quite valuable.
Li Qing just smiled and didn’t say much.
In reality, his heart was bleeding.
Most of a bag of Wenguan Leaves had been destroyed by the sulfuric acid, costing him nearly three thousand yuan.
Thankfully it was Wenguan Large Leaves.
Had it been the Wenguan tender leaves at the bottom that were destroyed, even with Officer Wang present, Li Qing would have fought Kong Zhenggang to the death.
Cutting off someone’s wealth was like killing their parents.
Li Qing had truly settled a deep grudge with him.
The group was taken majestically to the police station.
Officer Wang summoned several police officers and separated the two groups to question them.
In a small reception room, Officer Wang poured a glass of water for Li Qing and said, "Answer whatever I ask you, and only what I ask you. No irrelevant talk needed."
Li Qing nodded.
"Name?"
"Li Qing."
...
Officer Wang interrogated thoroughly, noting every detail about the causes and effects.
Li Qing didn’t dare to ramble with any irrelevant talk and stuck to the facts.
After all, he was the victim and had nothing to hide.
After the questioning, Officer Wang gathered everyone in a conference room.
After he and two other police officers compared all the statements, their expressions suddenly changed.
"It seems I need to educate you all that perjury and fabricating testimony can lead to legal repercussions," he said.
"Ding Sanyou, you claim here that you took sulfuric acid to unclog a drain?"
Ding Sanyou was one of the three blondes.
"Officer, the drainage in my house was very clogged. I heard that sulfuric acid could dissolve the trash in the pipes, so I wanted to try it," Ding Sanyou said, hanging his head low.
"Then how did it end up on someone else’s car?" Officer Wang slammed the table and shouted sternly.
"We were just messing around on the road, and it accidentally slipped out of my hands," stammered Ding Sanyou.
Officer Wang sneered, "Could your excuse get any worse?"
"You’re still young; there’s no need to bury yourselves on the path of crime. I’ll give you one last chance. Explain what really happened?"
Ding Sanyou glanced at Kong Zhenggang behind him, and seeing him nod, he immediately lifted his head and said, "Officer, I’m telling the truth. We were just playing, and I don’t know how it ended up on the car."
His little glance didn’t escape Officer Wang’s notice.
Officer Wang’s expression turned severe, dark and imposing.
"Who would have thought you were so loyal," he said gravely. "Since you’re so loyal, let me explain for free the legal consequences you’re about to face."
"Mass brawl, intentional harm, false testimony—when stacked together, you could be looking at over five years of imprisonment or detention. Apart from that, you’ll need to compensate Li Qing for the damage to his goods and for loss of earnings."
Ding Sanyou’s face turned pale, "Officer, are you joking? How could I possibly have done so much?"
Officer Wang glared at Ding Sanyou, raised the statement in his hand, and shouted, "Do you think we prosecute just based on this piece of paper? You may deny it, but that won’t change the fact that you’ve committed a crime!"
At that, Ding Sanyou truly panicked.
He hurriedly turned to Kong Zhenggang at the back and called out, "Brother Kong, save me! They want to incarcerate me for five years and make me pay compensation!"
"Why are you yelling at me about the mess you created?" Kong Zhenggang’s expression changed as he coldly shouted back.
Disbelieving, Ding Sanyou stared at Kong Zhenggang, his face turning red and his neck bulging, "Kong Zhenggang, are you screwing me over after I helped you? I only took five hundred yuan from you, and now you want me to go to jail for you?"
"Don’t talk nonsense; what does this have to do with me?" Kong Zhenggang, seeing the trouble, stood up and yelled.
"Officer, I’ll confess!" Ding Sanyou exclaimed indignantly.
Officer Wang gave a signal to a policeman beside him, who immediately sat down to take notes.
"Officer, this was all arranged by Kong Zhenggang," Ding Sanyou spilled everything like pouring beans.
"He gave me five hundred yuan to have someone take care of this. I truly thought it was nothing serious."
"Right, he never told us beforehand that the bottle was filled with sulfuric acid!"
Kong Zhenggang’s expression twisted at once, and he stood up slamming the table, bellowing, "You’re spouting nonsense!"
