Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Becoming a Killer, Bounty Missions

"Let’s go, right now."

Lilia couldn’t wait. She grabbed Allen’s arm, eager to dash outside.

"I’m starving; let’s eat first," Allen protested. "Is this the same high-and-mighty, elegant young lady everyone talks about?"

Still, seeing Lilia like this made her feel more real and approachable.

"We’ll handle it on the road. It’s still early, and not many people are out."

Lilia insisted, giving him no room to argue.

"Fine, but we have to change clothes first. We need to disguise ourselves," Allen said, sighing in defeat.

Although the Assassins’ Guild wasn’t as chaotic as the underground casino, they still couldn’t let their true identities slip.

"You’re right. I’ll wait for you; hurry up," Lilia said before sprinting back to her room.

Allen sighed again and told his servants to bring him a black stealth suit and a large black cloak to hide his appearance.

A few moments later, the door knocked again. Lilia appeared, this time dressed up as a man.

Allen was amazed by her disguise skills. Unless they knew her identity, they’d never suspect who she really was.

"Come on, let’s get some breakfast outside," Lilia said, pulling him out of the City Lord’s Mansion. The guards at the gate didn’t try to stop them.

However, several shadowy figures silently followed in the distance.

After last night’s incident, they couldn’t afford to be careless. Day or night, inside or outside the city, they were protecting them twenty-four hours a day.

After taking a long detour, the two of them found a secluded alley. After searching for a while, they finally located the entrance to the underground Assassins’ Guild.

"This Assassins’ Guild is really hidden," Allen muttered, staring at the wall that had been pushed open. A narrow, pitch-black tunnel lay before them—just wide enough for one person.

"Let’s go." Lilia didn’t hesitate. She started walking toward the tunnel.

"I’ll take the lead," Allen said quickly, pulling her back. It was an unknown place, so he was worried about danger.

Lilia nodded and didn’t argue.

The two of them entered the narrow passage, one after the other.

As soon as Allen stepped inside, he felt a gaze upon him. Someone was watching him, but he didn’t care.

The tunnel was long and dark. Up ahead, lights flickered, signaling the exit. They picked up their pace.

Once they passed through, the view opened up. It was bright and busy, filled with a steady stream of people who moved in an orderly fashion.

Most of them wore black cloaks, disguised just like them.

On both sides, tables and chairs were neatly arranged. Drinks and food were available. Some people sat at the tables, whispering quietly. Allen and Lilia’s arrival didn’t draw much attention.

Allen relaxed slightly and led Lilia toward a counter.

In the corner of the hall, two figures—one small and one large—sat facing each other at a table.

"Simon, isn’t that Miss Lilia?" the small figure asked, her voice lively.

It was Annie, the Elf Saint. Sitting opposite her was Simon.

Simon recognized Lilia too. His brow furrowed. "It really is. What are those two doing here?"

He recognized the person beside Lilia as Allen.

If those two were here, they certainly weren’t up to anything good.

"Simon," Annie said, "does Miss Lilia want to become a Killer? Should we stop her?"

Simon paused. It was actually possible.

"Hmm, forget it," he sighed. "Let them be. It won’t cause any big trouble."

He decided not to intervene.

Annie didn’t press the issue. Instead, she curiously watched Allen beside Lilia. "Simon, is that the descendant of the Heavenly King you mentioned?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Simon nodded.

"How interesting," Annie smiled. Noticing that Allen had sensed her gaze, she quickly looked away. "I agreed to the plan to bait the priest. Just let me know what to do when the time comes."

"Okay," Simon whispered back. "The City Lord wants to wait until the Academy competitions to make his move. Do you want to stay with me at the City Lord’s Mansion for now?"

"No need, I can take care of myself," Annie said with a confident smile. As long as she didn’t expose herself, no one in Blackspire could catch her.

"Alright, be careful then. I’m heading back," Simon warned. He dropped a few gold coins on the table, glanced at the two people at the counter, and silently slipped away.

Annie remained seated. She picked up her beer, took a small sip, and immediately frowned in pain.

"Pfft, terrible," she muttered. She then curiously watched the pair at the counter.

"You want to become Killers?" The elderly gentleman behind the counter squinted at Allen and Lilia. His eyes were cloudy. Without a word, he reached under the desk and pulled out two forms, handing them over. "Fill these out. You don’t have to use your real names, but your Killer codename must be unique."

"Thanks," Allen said.

He picked up a feather quill and looked at the form. It only asked for basic information: name, class, cultivation level, and Killer codename.

Allen carelessly filled in a few details. When it came to the Killer codename, the word Heavenly King came to his mind. He looked up and asked, "Sir, is this codename already in use?"

"Heavenly King?" The elderly gentleman jumped in surprise and quickly shook his head. "Kid, I’d advise against it. You can’t hold that title."

"What’s there to be afraid of? It’s just a name," Allen said dismissively. Seeing that no one else was using it, he decisively wrote "Heavenly King" in the Killer codename field.

The elderly gentleman shook his head and sighed, saying nothing more.

"You’re really arrogant," Lilia whispered. Her voice sounded somewhat androgynous, but Allen caught the mockery in her tone.

Allen leaned in to look at her Killer codename.

"Crimson Rose? Hmm, a spicy name, but it really doesn’t fit you at all."

His gaze drifted casually toward Lilia’s chest, which was completely flat. With so little difference, it was impossible to tell who was male and who was female.

"Mind your own business!"

Lilia was annoyed. She handed over her form and turned to Allen. "Pay up."

Besides filling out the form, every new Killer had to pay 100 gold coins to get their ID card made.

Reluctantly, Allen pulled out 200 gold coins.

"Wait a moment," the elderly gentleman said with a smile as he took the money. He walked over to a small machine and began operating it.

A faint cutting sound filled the air. Two small black cards were carved out, engraved with the two of their Killer codenames.

"Here are your cards," the elderly gentleman said, handing one to each of them. "To accept missions, just show your card at any Assassins’ Guild."

Allen inspected his card with curiosity. It was made of plain iron, looking decent enough, but it definitely wasn’t worth 100 gold coins.

He asked, "How do we take missions?"

The elderly gentleman pulled out a crystal ball that flickered with light, displaying a list of available jobs.

"Since you’re both Black Iron Tier Killers right now, you can only take on Black Iron Tier missions," he explained.

"Black Iron Tier... That name is surprisingly fitting," Lilia said calmly, looking at the badge in her hand.

Allen scanned the mission board. There were over a hundred tasks listed, ranging from Black Iron Tier to Bronze Tier and even Silver Tier.

"Why is the highest rank only Silver Tier?" he asked curiously.

The elderly gentleman patiently explained, "There are no missions above Silver Tier in Blackspire. You can take missions from other cities, but they are still limited to Black Iron Tier. However, there are some special jobs with no rank limit."

Allen nodded and continued scanning.

The Black Iron Tier jobs were simple: retrieve items, hunt magical beasts, or even escort duties. But the bounties were low, with the highest being just 1,000 gold coins.

Allen wasn’t interested in any of those.

He noticed three tasks at the very top: two were Silver Tier, and one had no rank limit.

Silver Tier Mission: Assassinate Gamma. Bounty: 2 million gold coins.

Silver Tier Mission: Steal one bottle of Church of Light holy water. Bounty: 1 million gold coins.

Unranked Mission: Capture Elves Saint Annie alive. Bounty: 10 million gold coins.

"Sir, is this bounty for the Elves Saint a job from another city or Blackspire’s?" Lilia asked, frowning as she noticed the top Unranked mission.

She remembered a childhood friend named Annie, brought over by Simon.

She knew Simon was an Elf, so that Annie must be an Elf too. It was very likely she was the Elf Saint on the bounty list.

"It’s for Blackspire. But don’t get your hopes up," the elderly gentleman advised, noticing their interest. "Even a Stage 5 powerhouse couldn’t take her down. If she were easy, she wouldn’t have been hanging around here this long with no one able to capture her."

Lilia nodded, feeling a bit worried.

Allen felt tempted but didn’t take that specific mission yet. His eyes were set on the two Silver Tier missions above it.

Kill Gamma and steal the Church of Light holy water.

Both missions were no joke. Stealing from the Church of Light was difficult enough, but Gamma was a top fighter under Kyle’s command, reportedly a Stage 5 expert.

However, Allen was confident he could handle it. Besides, the guy had done plenty of evil deeds while working alongside Kyle. He deserved to die.
