Chapter 156: Chapter 156 Chloe Was Kidnapped

Tristan let out a cold snort. "What a coincidence, huh? Kidnapped at a time like this?"

Cameron replied, "I was tailing Amelia when I saw a black van snatch someone. I followed it, but ended up losing them. The plates were fake."

Megan jumped in, "When and where exactly?"

Cameron quickly gave the time and location, and Megan started searching on her laptop, only to find all the surveillance feeds from that area were down.

Clearly, someone had planned this well.

Tristan glanced at the woman looking like a deflated balloon and tried to comfort her. "The way the kidnappers are acting just proves they’ve got something to hide. But you should get some rest—you’re running on empty."

Megan didn’t argue and lay down. Tristan tucked her in carefully, gently patting her shoulder to help her drift off.

In her dream, Diane was pushing her on a swing, and she was laughing happily. But when she turned to look at Diane, her face was twisted and bloody. The swing suddenly flung her into the air, then plummeted straight down like she was falling into a bottomless abyss.

Megan jolted awake, gasping for air, her forehead drenched in sweat.

Just then, Tristan walked in with a glass of warm water. Seeing her panicked expression, he rushed over.

Sitting by the bed, he wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Had a nightmare?"

Megan nodded weakly.

He held the glass to her lips. "Here, drink some water."

After she finished drinking, he gently brushed her hair behind her ear. "Megan... I’ve got to head out of the country tomorrow morning. I’ll make it back before the cremation."

"Why? What are you going for?"

He set the glass down beside the bed and took her hand in his. "There’s something I have to handle personally. You should take a break from classes, too—I’ll have Rachel stay with you."

Megan felt uneasy and squeezed his hand. "Is it dangerous?"

"Don’t worry, it’s fine." He noticed the unhealthy flush in her face. "You’re burning up. I’ll call Max Adams."

She shook her head. "Just give me something for the fever. It’s not a big deal."

Tristan took the medicine from the drawer and gently helped her take it, his every move full of tenderness.

"Can you stay with me for a bit?"

"Of course."

They lay on the soft bed together, and Megan curled into his chest. "Promise me you’ll come back safe—no matter what."

After everything they’d been through, her worry was understandable. Tristan curved his lips into a light smile. "I promise."

That night, Megan slept soundly.

The next morning, Tristan left Dreamscape Manor while Megan was still asleep and headed to the private airfield.

A luxurious Boeing 747-8VIP was already waiting. When the Maybach rolled in, the captain personally came down to meet him.

He opened the back door with a respectful tone. "Mr. Reid."

Tristan stepped out, shiny leather shoes hitting the ground. His dark trench coat made his pale skin look even colder. "Everything set?"

"All set. We’re ready to take them all down."

As he spoke, a robot emerged from the car, letting out a mischievous cackle. "Finally, Master’s letting me loose in the world!"

The captain twitched a bit. This robot definitely seemed like a weird one.Zeta Prime’s eyes flashed red as it rotated its robotic arm, transforming it into twin machine guns. "How dare you underestimate Zeta Prime’s intellect? That’s just plain offensive! Time for justice, baby!"

Tristan shot it a cold look, and the supposedly fearless bot immediately switched gears, morphing into a cute peace-loving ambassador in a blink.

Its machine guns vanished, and its robotic hand formed a "flower petal" shape as it chirped, "Zeta Prime loves peace! Nice to meet you!"

The pilot let out a silent sigh—this robot was the literal definition of two-faced.

Tristan didn’t even stop. He walked straight past them and headed toward the jet. Just before boarding, his phone rang—it was Megan.

A faint smile crept onto his face. "Didn’t you say you’d sleep a little longer?"

"I missed you."

Those three words almost made him turn around right there and then, just to hold her close. "I missed you too."

Megan gently stroked the tiny robot dog in her palm. "You didn’t sleep again last night, did you?"

"As long as you’re happy."

"My happiness depends on you," she said softly. "I don’t want you risking your health for anything. I don’t know how dangerous this trip will be, but promise me you’ll come back safe."

He let out a breath and only said two words: "Wait for me."

Ending the call, Tristan stepped aboard without hesitation. No matter how risky this mission was, he had to go.

Back at home, Megan stood barefoot by the window, staring up at the sky in a daze.

Her phone started buzzing loudly.

She rushed over and saw an unknown number flashing on the screen. She picked up. "Hello?"

A middle-aged woman’s voice spoke coldly, "Greenery Garden’s abandoned factory. Be there by nine. No cops. Or you’ll see Chloe’s dead body."

The line cut off, and a video file came in. On the screen, Chloe had a gag in her mouth and was tied to a chair, struggling helplessly.

"Don’t worry, pretty lady, Nova Tech got your back," the little bot said sweetly.

Megan tapped its head lightly. "Thanks, Nova."

She couldn’t take any chances with Chloe’s life. After changing into her workout clothes, she tucked Nova into her backpack and drove off from Dreamscape Manor.

By 8:55, her car pulled up in front of the rundown facility at Greenery Garden. The place was a mess, piled high with dead plants and surrounded by a heavy silence.

She glanced around, then quietly pulled the handgun from the compartment under the passenger seat and tucked it into her waistband.

Shouldering her backpack, she stepped out of the car and entered the factory. Right at the center, Chloe was tied up tightly, a timer device strapped to her waist.

Megan’s heart sank. A bomb.

She whispered urgently, "Nova, can you tell if it’s real or not?"

Nova scanned the device. "It’s real."

Suddenly, the timer lit up and started counting down—ten minutes.

Panicked, Megan shouted into the empty space around her, "I’m here! Just me! You want something? Come at me! Let my sister go!"

No reply.

Rushing to Chloe’s side, Megan yanked the gag from her mouth. "Chloe, I’m here. It’s okay now. Don’t be scared."

Tears streamed down Chloe’s face. "I’m sorry... someone called me. Said they knew who really killed Mom and Grandpa. They told me to come alone, and I just..."

"Shh, don’t worry. I’ve got you." Megan quickly released Nova, who got to work cutting the ropes around Chloe’s wrists and ankles.

Then suddenly, the bomb’s timer jumped straight to three minutes.

"Meg, listen to me," Chloe cried. "Leave me and go! Please! All those things I said before—I didn’t mean any of them! Just go!"
