The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 227 Our Little Trio Is Back
Tristan Reid stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring out at the neon-lit streets. He was flicking a sleek metal lighter between his fingers, lost in thought. After a long pause, he lit a cigarette.
Smoke swirled around him, casting shadows over his sharp features. As it cleared, the silver moonlight revealed the deep worry etched on his face.
Letting Nicole Flynn go came with two possible outcomes. One, she blows his cover, and he gets hit with a storm he’s not ready for. Two, they rescue her family first, then her, and use the opportunity to take Nathaniel Cooper down.
Tonight’s test showed Nicole chose the second path.
She was with them. That was the outcome they had hoped for.
They hadn’t surrounded Nathaniel when he met Nicole for a reason—her family’s safety came first. Also, if Nathaniel had sent a decoy, arresting him later would’ve been way harder.
Still, it was a risky play. They were out in the open. He was in the shadows.
Even with his military base, parasite labs, and bio labs blown to bits, Nathaniel still had hidden cards to play.
So they had to take him apart piece by piece if they wanted to end it once and for all.
Tristan smoked through half a pack, and the floor near the window was littered with cigarette butts.
Nathaniel was a serious problem. Mishandled, he could set off a war.
Just then, his phone buzzed. Seeing the name on the screen, Tristan’s lips curved into a faint smile.
"Megan, what are you up to?"
"Missing you, obviously! Both me and the baby."
Tristan let out a soft chuckle. "I’ve been thinking about you two too. So has the little one."
"Ugh, the way you talk now—kinda cringey!" she teased.
He laughed under his breath. "Only like this for you."
"Is that so?"
"Mhm. Promise."
Megan’s tone turned playful, "Honey, I ordered room service for you."
Tristan’s brows drew together. "What are you up to now?"
"I just didn’t want you feeling lonely, okay? The timing should be perfect—someone should be knocking at your door right about... now."
A knock sounded.
A chill ran through Tristan. His usually calm eyes darkened, like a storm coming in fast.
If it was actually a woman at the door, he couldn’t promise he wouldn’t strangle her on the spot.
He crossed the room in strides and yanked the door open.
A petite figure threw herself into his arms.
His whole body tensed, then he quickly shut the door, lifting her up and gently placing her on the bed.
He walked back to the window, opened it to air out the smoke, then shut it again.
He knelt down in front of her, happiness flickering in his eyes, but his voice held a trace of reproach. "Reckless."
Megan cupped his face in both hands and clicked her tongue. "You didn’t shave, and you’ve been smoking too?"
She leaned in for a sniff, then waved her hand in front of her nose. "At least half a pack... that stuff’s killing you."
"How’d you get here?"
"Hehe, drove myself! I’m not leaving. I wanna be with you."
Tristan unzipped her puffy coat and hugged her gently, resting his ear against her belly. "Hold still. Let me listen."
"You won’t feel anything yet. It’ll take a few more weeks. They say if the baby kicks early, it’s probably a girl."
Tristan looked up at her. "Girls are great—cute and smart, just like you."
Then something clicked. "Wait here. I’ll be right back."He got up and headed into the bathroom. Two minutes later, he was striding back toward Megan Shaw.
He sat by the bed, gently lowering her down, fingers hooking under her chin.
Megan blinked. "What now?"
Tristan Reid’s eyes darkened, a hunger glinting beneath. "Let me kiss you first."
Cool and faintly minty sweetness lingered on their lips, all that yearning poured into a lingering kiss.
"Mind if I’m a bit gentle this time?"
Megan’s cheeks flushed pink. "Go ahead."
Worried about her belly, Tristan pulled her into his arms from behind.
Suddenly, a ringtone shattered the mood. Megan tensed up, and Tristan frowned.
"Babe, you bit me!"
Megan burst out laughing. "Maybe I’ll just bite you dead next time."
She picked up the call. "Mom, I’m back in Didu."
"My goodness, Megan! Why did you leave without a word? You have no idea how worried I was!"
"I told Elliot to let you know! He probably forgot!"
"Megan, why go back? That Tristan Reid is a heartless jerk! Why even think about him? Focus on your future! After the baby’s born, I’ll help you. You’ll have no trouble finding someone better!"
Staring at the strong hand resting on her belly, Megan quickly said, “Mom, I’m super sleepy. Gonna nap now, bye!” Then she abruptly hung up.
"There goes my good reputation."
Megan turned to him with a teasing look. "You ever had one? Whether in our past lives or now, ever since I ditched our engagement party, your name’s been toast."
"Megan Shaw!" he grumbled and nudged her not-so-gently, "That mouth of yours really knows how to provoke!"
She bit her lip. "Which one? Top or bottom?"
That cracked Tristan up. "Missy, since when did you get so cheeky?"
Megan lifted her finger to graze his cheek, then gently kissed him. "So, you like it?"
Tristan nipped softly at her ear. "Like it a little too much!"
After quite a while, he finally let her go. Carrying her to the bathroom, he helped clean her up.
Looking down at her slightly rounded belly, he couldn’t help but smile. "Feels good. Our little trio’s finally back together."
He carried her to bed, slipped beneath the covers, and Megan snuggled into his arms. "How’s everything coming along?"
His palm gently stroked her back—it seemed softer now. "Going well. Nicole’s holding her ground. Nathaniel Cooper completely trusts her now."
Megan looked surprised. "He didn’t suspect anything?"
"He did. Almost fed her to the sharks. But she played her cards right. It was all or nothing."
"Is she hurt?"
"You worried about her now?"
"Heh, we’re fighting the same battle, after all. So, what’s next?"
Tristan’s gaze narrowed. "We’ll launch the nationwide manhunt in three days. First get Nicole’s family out safely, then prioritize her."
"Think Nathaniel won’t catch on?"
"He might. That’s why Nicole will need to make a sacrifice. No pain, no gain."
Megan sighed lightly. "Everyone’s path is so different. Did I save a galaxy in my last life to deserve you?"
Tristan let out a laugh. "You saying you’re Ultraman now?"
Megan blinked. "Then you’re the monster. Meant to obey me and live at my mercy!"
Tristan: "...What about my rep?"
Megan’s eyes curved with joy. "Gone ages ago!"
