Chapter 426: Assassins, typical

"You did what?!" Axel asked while shouting, anger seeping through his voice. He didn’t understand why Kai did what he did, and if he understood how it would affect his family.

"You’re fired." He said without any hesitation.

"Wait, Father, hear him out," Charlotte begged.

"Hmmmm. Fine, but make it quick."

"Uhh, I learned that your enemies are those of the Second and First prince faction because apparently, the king is dying and there will soon be a civil war."

"Yes, that is correct. How does this explain why you did those things?" Axel asked

"My parents always told me to crush my enemies, because once they’re dead, it doesn’t matter who they were in life."

Axel didn’t know if that was good parenting or not, but he liked what Kai had said. Still, this didn’t excuse his actions.

"So, for you, I will crush your enemies and place the third prince on the throne!" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Axel didn’t know if Kai was joking or not, but he didn’t know if he could take the stress of knowing what Kai wanted to do.

"Kai, do you understand what you’re saying? You’re talking about destroying multiple noble houses. One Marquis’ house has enough knights and mages to destroy my territory, let alone hundreds of them."

"That wont be a problem. I’m really strong!" Kai smiled

"Sigh, how strong?"

"Hmm? I can fight everyone in the world and win." It was true, actually.

"Kai, no one is that strong." Axel sighed once more.

Instead of speaking, Kai let his energy do the talking. His power overwhelmed Charlotte and Axel, and if it wasn’t for the barrier Kai placed around them, they would have been killed by his pressure alone.

"W-W-W-W-WHAT WAS THAT?!" Axel had never felt anything like that in his life, and he’s been around tier-10 beings before.

"My strength. You might have faced people who have the maximum amount of power in this land, but my power is maximumer!"

After calming down. Axel took a minute to assess the situation. He understood that if Kai were to help the third prince’s faction, then they would easily win the upcoming civil war. The problem was what others would do after learning that Kai was under his care.

"Okay, you aren’t fired. But we need to make changes around here. We will be in more danger than before and so making sure that everyone is protected is our priority for right now. I shall inform everyone in the house and call the others for an emergency meeting to talk about this situation." Axel announced

"Protection? I can help with that." With a finger, Kai cast a barrier around the house that not only prevented unwelcomed guests from entering and exiting the place, but also showed sho was a spy or traitor.

"Oh! That’s great! Hahaha! You should marry my daughter, this way I wouldn’t have to worry about her safety!"

"Okay." Kai shrugged.

"K-Kai! What are you talking about?! Y-You can’t just accept that without knowing what it entails!" She ran off to her room, blushing extremely hard.

"You have a lot to learn about women, son. Take the day off." Axel went to his office.

’Say, wanna go around the kingdom and see what we can find?’ Kai asked Karumi

’Hell yeah! Let’s go!’

---

"Him. I want him dead." The second prince was currently sitting inside a shady building. He wore different clothing, a cloak, and dyed his hair with mana so no one would recognize him.

Across from him was an old man with many scars on his face, but he was in extremely good shape.

"A boy?" The man asked

"He isn’t just a boy, he’s powerful! Enough to not be affected by the strength of the Headmaster at the institute for Knights and Mages."

"Oh, that’s impressive. For a target of his caliber, we require payment in advance, and it’s not gonna be cheap."

"Here." The prince tossed 100 gold coins on the table. "Once you complete the contract, you will be given 100 more gold coins. Don’t fail me."

The price for a target like Kai was only 50 gold coins, so to be paid double the price and have another 100 gold coins on top of that was something the old man was not going to pass up.

"We’ll start investigating him right away." The man got up, then vanished into the shadows.

"Your highness, do you think it’s right to use that assassination organization for something like this?" The prince’s knight asked

"What do you mean to say?"

"The Phantom Assassins, while they are the best on the continent, our enemies also use them. I’m worried that they would turn on you at a moment’s notice. While they always ensure that the employer isn’t killed if they have commisoned something, once the mission is over, they would come after you."

The prince knew that, and he understood that he was taking a risk, but it was one that he needed to do.

"I understand your worry, but if my brother takes advantage of this situation, then he would be bumped up from last in line to first in line. I can’t allow that to happen. Also, by using the Phantom Assassins, our hands stay clean of this situation."

The knight understood and nodded his head. "I understand, your highness."

"Good. Now, let’s get moving. I need to attend a meeting."

---

Kai was casually strolling through the city, looking at places and learning the area. The Nord family territory was very close to the capital and sat on the border of the territory where the institution was.

There were dorms, just like the Academy in Sarkylla, but Charlotte didn’t need to attend the dorms because she lived so close.

As he walked around, he thought back to what he said to Axel about helping out the third prince. He knew nothing would happen right away, and things could take weeks, if not months, to progress forward.

So, during that time, Kai would play the part of an attendant, have fun, and fight in a civil war between three princes who wanted their daddy’s seat.
