Chapter 150: Made Up?

Seeing the caller ID,

Rachel Royce hung up without hesitation and blacklisted the number.

About ten minutes later,

the driver arrived.

Rachel got in the car. After giving the address, the driver started toward her destination.

But it was the evening rush hour, so traffic was heavy.

It took nearly an hour to reach the Fitzwilliam family estate.

After getting out of the car,

Rachel was walking toward the main gate when she saw a Rolls-Royce slowly approaching.

She recognized whose car it was at a glance.

She coolly averted her gaze and quickened her pace.

Tristan Sterling had just stepped into the living room ahead of her.

Rachel had just reached the eaves

when she heard Melissa’s happy voice from inside. "Daddy!"

"Daddy, why didn’t you come with Aunt Evelynn? Weren’t you supposed to pick her up?"

"..."

At a servant’s invitation, Rachel followed them inside.

Tristan was holding Melissa.

The harmonious, cheerful chatter in the living room came to an abrupt halt the moment they saw Rachel walk in.

At the sight of her,

everyone’s expression changed.

Holding Melissa, Tristan turned to look at Rachel.

When Melissa saw Rachel, the smile on her little face grew even brighter. "Aunt Evelynn!"

Melissa reached out her arms, asking to be held.

Rachel stepped forward and took Melissa from Tristan’s arms.

Melissa wrapped her arms around Rachel’s neck, nuzzling against her affectionately.

Rachel patted her head. "There, there."

Everyone in the living room watched the heartwarming scene between the two.

The moment Rachel entered,

Madam Sterling hadn’t even recognized who she was.

It wasn’t until she saw Melissa’s reaction

that she realized this was Rachel Royce.

Five years.

The change was truly immense.

She was almost unrecognizable.

Seeing Rachel, however, Sylvia Shannon’s expression soured.

With Tristan Sterling standing beside her, they truly looked like a family of three.

Rachel put Melissa down. Melissa took her hand and led her toward the sofa, wanting to make introductions.

As Rachel walked over, William Jensen said, "So you’re the guest of honor Grandpa was talking about. Welcome, Evelynn."

Rachel smiled at William Jensen. "Thank you."

William gestured for her to sit next to him.

Rachel walked over and sat down naturally.

Nina Fitzwilliam greeted Rachel politely when she saw her.

Melissa wanted to start the introductions with her great-grandmother, but Madam Sterling took her great-granddaughter’s hand. "Melissa, no need for introductions. Great-Grandma already knows your Aunt Evelynn."

Melissa blinked her big eyes, confused. "When did Great-Grandma and Aunt Evelynn meet?"

Madam Sterling replied, "We met a long time ago."

"Then how come I never met Aunt Evelynn before?" Melissa asked.

Madam Sterling didn’t answer her question.

Melissa ran over to Rachel, wanting to be close to her.

Watching this scene,

anyone could guess her identity.

The butler came over and announced, "Madam, dinner is ready."

Madam Fitzwilliam looked at Evelyn Fitzwilliam and asked, "Hasn’t Thomas returned yet?"

"He’ll be here any minute."

Just as she finished speaking,

Thomas Sterling walked in from outside.

He was startled for a moment when his eyes fell on Rachel sitting on the sofa.

"Thomas is back,"

Madam Fitzwilliam said.

Thomas snapped back to reality and walked forward, politely greeting the elders one by one.

The butler went to inform Master Fitzwilliam and the others.

Master Fitzwilliam saw Rachel.

"Master Fitzwilliam," Rachel greeted him.

Master Fitzwilliam nodded. "Good of you to come."

Everyone began to take their seats.

Franklin Fitzwilliam walked up to Tristan Sterling and asked in a low voice, "Made up?"

Tristan simply curved his lips into a faint smile without answering.

He pulled out a chair and said to Rachel, "Sit here."

Rachel really didn’t know where she was supposed to sit. She had originally planned to sit next to Thomas at the far end of the table.

Hearing Tristan’s voice, she looked toward him.

The others also looked at Tristan.

Master Fitzwilliam was staring at him as well.

Rachel stood her ground, not quite wanting to walk over.

Now, everyone’s gaze had shifted to her.

"Aunt Evelynn, come sit here!"

The chair Tristan had pulled out was right next to Melissa.

And Melissa was completely oblivious to the subtle shift in atmosphere among the adults.

Rachel couldn’t remain standing there, so she had no choice but to walk over and sit down.

Fortunately, Tristan didn’t sit next to her, instead taking the seat on Melissa’s other side. Thomas sat next to Rachel.

Once everyone was seated,

the meal began.

During the meal, people chatted idly about everyday things.

As for Rachel’s presence, the others didn’t seem to pay it much mind.

Rachel helped Melissa with her food.

Tristan, meanwhile, drank and chatted with the elders, occasionally putting food on Melissa’s plate.

"Did Grandpa ask you to come today?" Thomas asked.

Because Rachel wouldn’t have come on her own.

And Tristan wouldn’t have been the one to invite her.

It had to have been Grandpa who called her.

Rachel hummed in affirmation. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Thomas asked, "How does it feel, attending a family banquet like this for the first time?"

Rachel took a sip of juice and replied, "It’s certainly a bit uncomfortable."

"Why do you think Grandpa asked you to come?"

Rachel’s lips curved into a smirk as she said in a low voice, "To piss certain people off."

Madam Sterling and the others hadn’t shown much of a reaction upon seeing her, but Sylvia Shannon couldn’t keep her composure.

Especially when Tristan had put on that show of pulling out a chair for Rachel in front of Master Fitzwilliam. Sylvia’s expression was unbelievably foul, but since they were at the Fitzwilliam estate, she could only bottle it up and dared not say a word.

Thomas chuckled softly.

With Thomas and Melissa by her side, Rachel didn’t feel quite as uncomfortable.

During dinner,

there was virtually no interaction between her and Tristan.

No one went out of their way to bring her up, either.

Only Melissa chattered away, speaking to her father one moment and to Rachel the next.

Tristan put some food on Melissa’s plate, and Melissa said to her father, "Daddy, you should give Aunt Evelynn some food, too."

Hearing this, Rachel immediately distracted Melissa.

Tristan glanced at the woman.

Franklin Fitzwilliam, who was sitting nearby, saw this and couldn’t help but sigh. He leaned over and teased Tristan in a low voice, "Even Melissa is more sensible than you."

Tristan just gave a faint smile and didn’t respond to Franklin.

After dinner,

Master Fitzwilliam called Rachel to the study alone.

Looking at the situation,

it was clear that Rachel’s relationship with Master Fitzwilliam was anything but ordinary.

This also explained why Master Fitzwilliam had always given Tristan the cold shoulder because of Rachel.

Sylvia Shannon pulled Tristan aside and asked, "How does Rachel know Master Fitzwilliam?"

Before Tristan could answer,

Madam Fitzwilliam spoke up. "Evelynn is Julian’s student, and my husband taught her in the past as well."

It was only today that Madam Fitzwilliam had realized that Evelynn was Rachel Royce, Tristan Sterling’s wife. She had never met Rachel before, but now, seeing such an outstanding young woman, she wondered, ’Why couldn’t the Sterling family have accepted her wholeheartedly? They all said she wasn’t good-looking, but what part of her isn’t beautiful?’

Upon hearing this,

everyone was surprised.

Madam Fitzwilliam couldn’t help but ask, "Tristan, this Evelynn is an excellent young woman. What on earth were you thinking back then?"
