The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 135: Real-Life Minesweeper
I quietly asked Qinghan if he had ever heard of something similar because if it was a hallucination, why would everyone see the same thing?
Qinghan and I didn’t see the woman and child they were talking about, so he said he couldn’t judge. He had seen a type of plant that resembled a human female’s figure, but it was evidently a plant, somewhat like the Ginsengfruit that was popular a few years ago.
He had never seen a plant with white skin and long hair. We had previously encountered bizarre creatures that used human corpses as bait, so perhaps there were such things here as well.
But what kind of corpse can remain uncorrupted for years?
When I asked this question, Qinghan stared at me fixedly, the answer was implicit.
I punched him, causing the crew cut nearby to turn and look at us, then shake his head and sigh, muttering about how the stench of love is everywhere.
Guan Hai walked behind us, let out a light laugh, and said with particular emotion, ’A real-life savage girlfriend.’
Qinghan also sighed, the sighs of three men surrounded me, each for different reasons. At this moment, words were unnecessary, and I could only respond with the same sigh, expressing my unspeakable helplessness.
The people walking in front and behind us turned their heads back, not knowing what happened, and without explanation, this bizarre interlude soon passed.
Until a muffled groan came from the back of the line, we stopped and turned to see only a backpack and a gun dropped to the ground.
The person carrying the backpack and holding the gun had disappeared...
The situation was slightly better than yesterday in the Stone Forest, at least there was a sound when this person disappeared.
Old Shi came jogging over from the front; because there were more people, the line had stretched out a bit. He jogged over to check because the person who disappeared was one of his men.
The backpack and gun fell to the ground, the backpack strap wasn’t broken, and the gun was fine, but the person was gone.
Old Shi cursed and asked the person in front if they had heard or seen anything.
The person in front said no, he hadn’t seen anything, but he could be sure that the person wasn’t snatched by something from above.
They had experienced being attacked by cannibal trees, and those cannibal flowers on trees swallowed people from top to bottom, swallowing them down and then retracting back up.
If it wasn’t something from the trees above, could it be from underground?
The leader also came over to examine, using a shovel to dig the ground, and just after two digs, suddenly a ground hole opened beneath him. The leader reacted quickly, leaning backward to avoid falling in.
But one of his feet stepped into nothingness, his body losing balance, and Old Shi, being the closest, immediately grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
The ground hole suddenly closed, catching one of the leader’s feet, but fortunately, he jerked back and pulled his leg out, though his boot was swallowed by the hole.
After the ground closed, no trace was visible; the people surrounding were all stupefied, and the team fell into a brief silence.
For the moment, no one could clearly say what had just happened, how the ground suddenly split open and then quickly restored itself.
If it was a collapse, how did it restore?
If there was already a hole, why did it disappear?
The leader took a spare boot from his backpack and put it on, remaining silent for a moment before saying he felt a strong suction beneath the ground hole earlier.
He estimated that the missing person was sucked into the hole because it happened so quickly, their backpack and gun were flung away.
The leader remembered the location of the ground hole and, keeping a bit of distance, started digging the ground there again.
Just two digs in, the ground hole reappeared. Old Shi tried to block the hole with a rock, specifically calling for the strongest, most muscular guy in the team to move a large boulder.
But as the rock approached the hole, the big guy cried out and began to fall downward. The two people standing behind him, one hugged his waist, the other grabbed his arms, but even with the combined effort of three men, they were no match for the hole’s suction, their bodies bending downwards.
When the big guy dropped the stone at the hole, the leader and Old Shi also helped pull him, getting the stone in place, but the big guy’s arms got dislocated in the process.
However, the rock didn’t stay at the mouth of the hole for long before it was sucked in with a whoosh. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Now the situation was dire; if the person earlier wasn’t dead, this boulder going in would probably smash their head.
The ground hole here hadn’t been figured out, and over by Lu Xiaodao, another situation arose. Somehow, he had quickly leaped up into a tree.
When everyone’s eyes landed on him, he briefly explained, "Ground hole."
His gaze darted to where he had just been standing, and the leader realized we were facing another insurmountable obstacle, urging everyone to quickly find a nearby tree to climb.
Aside from Guan Hai and Cong Zhibo, everyone was agile in climbing. The two were pulled up by their teammates using ropes.
Fortunately, the trees in the jungle were particularly robust, some could fit three people crouching, others five, and the larger branches wouldn’t break even if you sat on them.
We had occupied all the nearby big trees, they had grown so large, surely because they hadn’t fallen into a hole, so for the time being, being in the trees should be safe.
Lu Xiaodao’s reaction was almost like an electronic alarm; the moment the ground opened, his body responded, twisting and leaping upwards, landing on a tree trunk and scrambling up.
After everyone left the ground, the ground hole quieted down, and we waited for a long time without seeing them reappear.
Clearly, there was more than one ground hole, and waiting wasn’t an option. The leader called for someone to take out a set of tools from their backpack.
I was very familiar with this toolset, a modular Luoyang shovel. The steel pipes could be connected to be as long or short as needed.
The leader connected one that could reach the ground, squatting on the tree, grasping the shovel handle and poking down.
Someone beside him supported his back, ready to help maintain balance at any moment.
I hadn’t seen this kind of operation before, so I sat astride a branch opposite, watching him play a real-life version of ’minesweeper.’
He had to find us a safe route, so he had to perform a thorough search. Some in the team weren’t skilled enough, if they stepped on it, they couldn’t be rescued.
"Ah—" Suddenly, someone screamed, shouting something in a foreign language.
The person was originally crouched on a tree beside me, that tree was relatively thin, and he was small, so only he was on that tree.
He suddenly screamed, startling everyone. When we looked at him, we only saw his body lift into the air as if he were flying.
His limbs were flailing in the air, like trying to break free from something, but with no support, he could only kick and flail blindly.
"Mike! What’s wrong with you?" Old Shi and his men all raised their guns, but no beast appeared around, leaving them uncertain where to aim.
The person named Mike opened his mouth to call for help, but within seconds, he couldn’t make a sound.
His skin rapidly shrank, and his eyes caved in, his already skinny body turning into a withered husk in an instant.
