The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 194 - 195: Let Go of That Little White Mouse
Being away from the island is a good thing, but Chen Qinghan and the others might be in danger. I don’t care what mode those people inside are in; they need to enter shutdown mode now.
Bi Shi seemed to sense my emotion and kicked open the cockpit door first, rushing in and throwing punches, each punch landing on the heads.
If they were normal people, being struck on the head heavily, they’d at least stagger, if not pass out, or at least shout.
But these people in the cockpit, when hit, had no reaction. Bi Shi looked at her fist, her eyes filled with confusion.
Her fists weren’t just for show; if not enough to burst someone’s head, they could at least crack bones. The fact that the people she hit didn’t even flinch was odd to her.
If they don’t pass out, tie them up. I jumped in to help, tying all these wooden men up and setting them aside.
They didn’t resist, as if they were truly wooden men, or like Bi Shi said, robots that only follow predetermined programs and don’t handle events outside those programs.
"How is it? Do your hands hurt?"
"Of course they do, I’m not like you, able to control feeling."
I didn’t quite understand what she meant, but now wasn’t the time to discuss it.
The people in charge of steering the fishing boat were set aside, and I went to check the surveillance first. Bi Shi said she had peeked at them operating the instruments and knew how to use them. She didn’t change the course or speed, because, originally, we wanted the fishing boat to get farther from the island.
I searched for Chen Qinghan and them in the surveillance. Most of the surveillance equipment on the ship was installed in the corridors, places like laboratories and operating rooms might not even be monitored by Captain Jack, hence no cameras installed.
However, I found the surveillance in the underground ’prison’. The team leader, Lu Xiaodao, and Guan Hai were all held in the prison.
They were all sitting in front of the iron gate of the prison. The team leader seemed injured, with a bandage wrapped around his shoulder.
Captain Jack was still treating him, indicating he didn’t intend to kill them for the moment.
But I didn’t see Chen Qinghan, so I went to check the records from two hours ago.
It turned out there was a hidden passage inside the cabin leading straight to the cockpit. Captain Jack’s bodyguards had guns; they sneaked into the cockpit through this secret passage, shot the team leader, and captured Guan Hai, using him as a hostage to threaten Chen Qinghan to surrender.
Only Captain Jack knew about this secret passage, and the only surveillance on the ship with sound was inside the cockpit.
Captain Jack ordered his men to retract the ropes on the railing and retreat at full speed. He considered Chen Qinghan the leader of this ’rebellion’ and wanted to teach him a lesson.
Chen Qinghan was electrocuted and held, with a miniature bomb strapped to his foot, guarded by four people, and sent to the laboratory.
I recalled what Lu Xiaodao said about those empty cages and the bloodstains inside, estimating that Chen Qinghan was captured to be used as a guinea pig.
I turned off the switches and disabled all the surveillance on the ship, grabbing my treasure sword and storming out of the cockpit like a whirlwind.
Bi Shi tutted behind me, but I couldn’t be bothered with her.
I burned a hole at the lock of the cabin door, pulled the door open, and stepped inside.
There was no one in the corridor, no guards on the deck either. It was quite strange; after tonight’s raid, Captain Jack should have heightened his vigilance and strengthened defenses.
Yet the defenses were weaker. Did he think Bi Shi and I wouldn’t come back?
I headed straight for the laboratory with my sword. I hadn’t been here during my time on the ship and hadn’t seen the experimenter Lu Xiaodao talked about.
There were no guards outside the laboratory, and although there was surveillance, it only monitored the corridor outside the laboratory. Now with surveillance off and no guards, I felt like I was entering an unoccupied realm, punching the electronic lock at the door to pieces.
Reaching in to pull out the wires, the heavy metal door silently opened a crack.
Upon entering was a storage room, where the cages Lu Xiaodao mentioned were kept.
Maybe he saw them when staff opened the door; the experimenters could eat, drink, and relieve themselves inside, but animal corpses always needed to be processed outside.
Farther inside was another storage room housing experimental supplies which hadn’t been unpacked, such as disposable gloves, glass tubes, beakers, and metal trays.
After three rooms, I finally saw an observation room with a few people in white coats inside, either sitting or standing. Those sitting were watching images and data on computer screens; those standing were by a large glass window.
On the other side of the window was another room, a surgery room, with an operating table in the center, shadowless lamps set up, and four people in surgical gowns gathered around. Nearby on a rack were various surgical tools.
The person lying on the operating table was Chen Qinghan, and he was still awake. The people beside him had already picked up a scalpel, seemingly about to proceed with the operation.
"Hey, at least give him some anesthesia; live dissection is very painful." I said, kicking open the observation room door, and before anyone inside could react, swung my sword at the observation window.
This window might be bulletproof, unlike regular glass, but under the sharp edge of my treasure sword, even steel would be useless.
I split open the window, leaped up onto a table, and delivered a flying kick to the person dazed by the operating table, sending them flying.
His face smacked into the opposite wall, leaving a splash of blood on it.
The scalpel in his hand flew off too. After landing, I got up and delivered two spinning kicks, sending two approaching people into other walls.
They held syringes, but unfortunately, those would never reach me.
The remaining person pressed a red button by the door, seemingly an alarm; after pressing, he went to open the operating room door. I grabbed a toppled equipment rack and swung it at his back, making him spit blood onto the door and collapse at the threshold.
I cut open the metal rings restraining Chen Qinghan’s hands and feet; meanwhile, people inside the observation room were fetching weapons from who knows where.
I flipped the operating table, taking Chen Qinghan with it to the floor; with the table as cover, he wasn’t hit by bullets.
I glanced at the extra holes in my clothes and smiled towards the observation room people.
Clothes can be replaced, but they broke the lotus hairpin on my head, which was my ’crown’.
The alarms blared across the ship, red lights flashing inside the operating and observation rooms, flickering on and off.
I leaped back into the observation room against the bullets; they emptied their magazines at once, turning my coat into beggar’s attire.
"They ruined my clothes like this; everything’s exposed." I said softly, then rushed up and grabbed one person’s neck with one hand, intending to crush his throat.
But as I applied force, I realized it felt off; his neck was very soft, no bones felt, as if I was holding a rag doll.
But even if it’s a rag doll, today I’ll have to rip off its head.
