The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 79: Different Species, No Romance
After entering the forest, the big guy hesitated for a moment and came over to say he could help me carry some of the weight.
I decisively refused. The food in my bag is Chen Qinghan’s rations; in an ancient tomb, the importance of food is no less than that of weapons.
I’ve seen too many tomb robbers starve to death. For living people, hunger is a torturous ordeal.
The big guy, who is quite narrow-minded, once again showed that "grievous" look. He’s more or less a "man of the world," yet he doesn’t understand the principle that food shouldn’t be entrusted to others.
Since coming out of the tomb, I’ve increasingly felt that I have some social barriers. It’s all because my social circle used to be too narrow and particularly uniform.
Chen Qinghan and Shunfeng are exceptions, and aside from Chen Qinghan, I can’t comprehend some behaviors of others.
When watching people’s interactions on TV, everything is clear. But in real life, I seem to be separated from others by a barrier, my signal reception not that good.
Since we are good brothers, naturally, I must share my troubles with Chen Qinghan. I feel that his cute student, the talkative rich kid, and the odd foreign big guy make me feel at times like we’re from two different worlds.
After listening to my worries, Chen Qinghan said indifferently, "You need time to adjust. Occasionally feeling disconnected from this world is normal."
"Is the behavior of that big brown bear normal?"
"There you go again, giving people nicknames." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Alright, alright, Jerry~ isn’t that just the little mouse."
"He has a favorable impression of you. It’s normal to show some acts of kindness."
"What favorable impression? I don’t even know him. Is he crazy?"
"Haven’t you seen those dog-blood romance dramas on TV?"
"Yes, modern ones where the heroine gains the CEO’s favor by causing trouble, insulting, or even beating him. In ancient ones, the heroine usually starts with her family dead and generally has a grudge against the male lead. Chance encounters, where’s the favorable impression? There’s no dramatic conflict, buddy!"
Chen Qinghan lightly flicked my forehead. Although it didn’t hurt, he seemed quite relieved by it.
"Your mind is clouded by TV dramas. In reality, beauties always have someone fall in love at first sight," Chen Qinghan said with a bit of disappointment.
"Beauty?" I touched my face. I haven’t used powder to disguise today. Am I really beautiful?
"You’ve already become like a living person. Be confident." Chen Qinghan can always guess my thoughts. Maybe it’s because I’ve never disguised my emotions in front of him, and he once again hit the nail on the head.
"Hmph, you’re lying again. How could I be like a living person."
"You look just like one."
"Tch, I knew it."
No matter how normal I look on the outside, ultimately, I’m different from living people. Maybe my appearance is no longer distinct from ordinary people, but I know inside that it’s different.
Therefore, I strongly reject the "favorable impression" that Chen Qinghan mentioned. Others having a favorable impression of me is a burden to me. The person their eyes see and develop a favorable impression of is not the real me.
If they saw that withered, blue-grey zongzi face trapped in the ancient tomb, would they still willingly approach?
Yes, they certainly would, but they’d approach to throw Black Dog Blood and Black Donkey Hoof at me.
Ever since Chen Qinghan mentioned Jerry is interested in me, I simply haven’t even looked at him directly, different species, refusing romance.
The journey is always boring and tedious. The leaders do not discuss work with us. When they hold meetings, we rest.
The signal here is bad. I can only watch pre-downloaded videos and movies on my phone or play some single-player games.
The driver said that people living in this area used to rely on hunting for a living a few years ago, and only recently started growing tea trees.
We walked in the forest for a week, gradually moving into the depths of the primeval forest.
When the phone signal completely cut off, we were truly close to the area where the ancient tomb is located.
However, it still takes two more days to walk over the tomb. Cars can’t drive in the forest, so everything has to be carried by animals. The mules were rented from a village.
But whether they can make it back or not is uncertain, so the leader paid the villagers a generous rental fee, essentially buying those mules.
Since cars arrived in the village and people started planting tea trees, few families raise mules, so they could only rent a few mules.
Everything else needed to be carried by manpower. Most of the team’s members are strong young men who can carry dozens of kilograms of equipment without problem.
And it’s clear that they have decent physical fitness. They must have trained a lot. Their arm muscles are like inflated balloons.
Compared to them, Chen Qinghan’s physique can be described as "slender," but I know well that Chen Qinghan’s physical abilities and skills are disproportionate to his cultured appearance.
So every time the team members flaunt their power in front of us, I give them a sideways glance.
Chen Qinghan says I’m childish. He said that but didn’t stop my childish behavior. Every time he sees me give them a glare, he smiles with lips pressed together, like an affectionate "fatherly" grin?
Finally, we reached the area where the tomb is located. This journey through the primeval forest didn’t cause us much trouble.
Because the other team indeed had some skill, they prepared enough serum to tackle problems of being bitten by poisonous creatures.
Tranquilizer guns dealt with the occasionally approaching beasts. Faced with human modern tools, the living creatures in the forest appeared weak, helpless, and pitiful.
The team also had botanists who could identify any plant and determine if it was poisonous.
We followed along smoothly, and after reaching over the tomb, the team set up camp, and Chen Qinghan pointed out the location of the pit to the leader.
Brushing aside the ground’s accumulated leaves, the leader dug into the soil, flipping it over to inspect.
The soil in this place was different from other areas, clearly having been disturbed.
So the leader nodded, indicating rest for a day and to start digging tomorrow.
In the evening, they took out all the equipment they brought and prepared, setting it up in the tent. I didn’t recognize any of it and wasn’t interested.
The next morning, the leader asked the two of us to rest in the tent while he took a few people to dig the pit.
As long as they don’t touch the tomb’s door, no one will get poisoned, so the pit work was relatively easy and not dangerous.
Three hours later, the soil in the pit was completely excavated and piled in the nearby forest.
"Hey, they want to leave us behind, let them do their thing. They’ll have their time to cry later." I noticed that after digging the pit, the leader didn’t inform us and directly called people in to start preliminary exploration. It clearly showed they wanted to move forward without us.
"Don’t you want to see the tomb door?"
"I’ll see it sooner or later."
Chen Qinghan and I exchanged a smile. Somehow, we had developed a bit of tacit understanding.
