Chapter 82: Chapter 82: Shh~ They Want to Eat Humans

We had only walked a hundred meters when a wall appeared ahead of us.

Qinghan tapped the wall with the end of his flashlight, and from the sound, it was solid. It seemed like a dead end.

"Looks like we have to turn back," Jerry said, having also heard the sound from the wall.

Qinghan stood still, pondering, "No, if it’s a dead end, there’s no need to set up an arrow trap. Moreover, at only a hundred meters, such a design is pointless. It doesn’t make sense logically."

"Then let’s walk back. Maybe the real entrance is halfway, in some inconspicuous place. We’ve encountered such mechanisms before," Jerry suggested.

Qinghan did not dismiss his words. We retraced our steps and tapped all over the walls on both sides, but found no other exit. The door we entered through was gone, replaced by a stone wall.

Both ends were blocked. Jerry started banging on the wall and shouting. The team leader had left two people in a small hall as a backup. He was knocking on the wall, trying to get the attention of those outside.

However, I thought it was a futile effort. They all had walkie-talkies, and the people outside would have surely noticed the change in the entrance before us and would have notified us through the walkie-talkie.

After half a day with no signal, there were two possibilities: one, that from the perspective of those outside, the entrance had not changed, and this wall was a clever mechanism perfectly isolating the inside from the outside.

The second possibility was that the outside people had noticed the changes but did not want to tell us, choosing to play deaf and dumb, completely ignoring our calls for help.

Jerry, after calling for a while, remembered the walkie-talkie and immediately took it off his waist to call the people outside.

But the walkie-talkie had malfunctioned, filled with static noise, likely due to interference.

Jerry, like a little mouse trapped in a glass box, checked and probed everywhere, looking for an exit.

He was busy as a bee while Qinghan and I stepped aside to wait quietly. After Jerry had busied himself for a while, something felt off, and he turned to look at us.

"What are you two doing?"

"Waiting," Qinghan said.

"Waiting for what? For the stone to move on its own?" Jerry said, a bit angrily.

"Yes." Qinghan actually talked very little to others, you could even say he was taciturn.

"Stop joking and find the exit. Maybe we can pry open a stone slab!" Jerry pulled tools from his backpack, intending to pry the stone slabs off the walls.

Not to mention each slab weighed at least several hundred pounds. If he pried one off, it could flatten him. Even though he couldn’t find a seam on the wall without a drill, it was unlikely he’d pry one open.

Watching the ’little mouse’ busily scurrying around, Qinghan checked his watch, "It’s about time, let’s go."

He still led the way, and I grabbed Jerry’s backpack, dragging him in front of me.

"We’re moving," I said deliberately in a creepy tone.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Jerry was baffled, his expression both confused and surprised. "You, you’re really strong."

The last sentence was directed at me, probably due to the surprise on his face from being dragged along so easily, considering his height was nearly six feet three and he was quite burly. I had pulled him effortlessly with one hand.

"Heh," I thought to myself that this was just a taste of what’s to come—let’s see how surprised you’ll be.

Qinghan calculated the distance and walked to where the stone wall had blocked our path. This time the path was clear of obstacles.

"Huh? Hey?" Jerry felt the wall next to him, looked up at the ceiling, and down at the floor, scanning all around but finding no stone wall.

Qinghan only remarked to me, "Similar to the snowy mountain maze."

I instantly understood, nodded, and stayed silent. Jerry saw our mutual understanding and asked, "You’ve seen this type of mechanism before?"

Qinghan grunted and continued walking forward. Jerry, inferring that Qinghan wasn’t talkative, turned to ask me, "Why did the wall disappear?"

I couldn’t be bothered to explain, "Figure it out yourself."

Jerry, feeling wronged, kept quiet for a moment before saying, "We are teammates."

Encountering honest people like him, naturally, one must bully them a bit. I chuckled mischievously, "I think you’re a spy sent by Pete."

Jerry immediately bristled, raising his voice in protest, "No, I’m not, I genuinely want to help you!"

Qinghan’s voice drifted over from ahead, "Stop teasing him and watch the road." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Shh, don’t talk too loudly. You’ll wake them up," I said, suddenly serious.

Jerry’s tall frame visibly stiffened, and he lowered his voice to ask, "Who?"

I couldn’t tell him I heard a chorus of ’snores’, "Some creatures are very sensitive to sound, like zombies. You’ve seen zombie movies, right?"

Jerry immediately quieted down, evidently having watched such films, as the snoring was occasionally interspersed with murmurs of ’eat meat’, ’drink blood’, ’living’.

Just from those sleep-talks, you could tell that waking the sleeping creatures would pose great danger to Qinghan.

If they really were awakened, perhaps tossing Jerry over was an option. His large frame and plentiful meat might keep them occupied for a while...

"Do you feel it’s getting colder?" Jerry asked softly, seemingly to prove his point, and even shivering.

"No, it’s your imagination," I replied quickly, shelving the idea of sacrificing him.

’So hot...’, ’The air’s heating up.’

My brain received danger signals, and I hurriedly warned Qinghan, "The body temperature of living persons is causing a change in the passage, it’s dangerous."

Qinghan immediately understood, pulling three white pills from his bag.

When we stayed along the way, he received a few packages. I never asked what they were since they were things he found useful.

"Take it," Qinghan swallowed one pill himself and handed the remaining two to me and Jerry.

Giving one to me was just for appearance’s sake because I couldn’t reveal in front of Jerry that I wasn’t living.

I pretended to put it in my mouth, but actually kept the pill in my palm, discreetly slipping it into my pocket while Jerry was unaware.

"What is this?" Jerry didn’t immediately take the pill.

"It’s life-saving. You’ll die if you don’t take it. It’s your call," I snapped irritably.

He hesitated but seeing both of us take it, he closed his eyes and swallowed the pill.

"Oh man, I never eat things of unknown origin, hoping I won’t get diarrhea," Jerry muttered after taking it.

"Heh, diarrhea isn’t possible, heh heh."

"Cold, don’t laugh like that, it’s scary."

"Too late, you’re out of time to regret now."

Sure enough, as soon as I finished speaking, Qinghan, leading at the front, slowed down.

Jerry suddenly hugged himself, shaking all over. The pill might have lowered body temperatures, putting them into a hypothermic state.
