The Journey of Immortal Cultivation-Chapter 503 - 292 Cold Devouring Fish
The clacking sound of the mechanism opening came, and the green-tiled floor below the offering table suddenly collapsed, revealing a dark entrance indeed.
In an instant, a bitterly cold wind surged out from the cave, making Ning Xiaoxian feel as if she had suddenly fallen into an ice cave at the North Pole, and one that had not been entered for tens of thousands of years at that. As soon as the cold wind emerged, the surface of every object within the hall quickly frosted over, then the frost thickened, slowly turning into a layer of thin ice. The dust particles in the air, stimulated by this cold air, immediately transformed into snow-like substances, fluttering down.
In the scorching July, snow actually began to fall in this room.
Changtian suddenly said, "This entrance also has a Barrier set up, which keeps all the yin energy inside. No wonder the environment outside is not too greatly affected. The person who set up this Barrier is quite skilled." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
To receive his praise, one must be an expert. Ning Xiaoxian immediately became more vigilant. She did not wish for this "expert" to suddenly appear and ruin their plans.
Fortunately, after waiting for a short while, nothing happened in the room. The entrance continued to exhale its cold wind, but such yin wind posed no threat to the three of them.
Tu Jin was still the first to step lightly into the cave.
She had claustrophobia when she was a child, and it was unknown whether it had been cured in this Otherworld. Ning Xiaoxian sighed lightly and followed closely behind.
The floor of the cave was not as damp as she had imagined, but rather icy cold and dry, and it meandered downwards. If she guessed correctly, they were probably heading into the belly of the mountain.
Even though they were on high alert, nothing unusual happened along the way, and the mountain path was quite short. In just a dozen breaths, the three reached the end.
At the end of the path was a small Cold Pond.
This pond at first glance seemed not much different from an ordinary Underground Lake, but there were no stalactites commonly seen on the banks and cave ceiling of the cave. Everywhere touched was covered with thick and solid ice. The water of the pond was not deep and emitted a bluish glowing light, appearing clear and beautiful.
Tu Jin took a long breath and said, "This is the place!" He strode forward, reached his hand into the water, and after a few breaths, he fished out an object.
This thing could shake its head and wag its tail, and it made a sound like a baby’s cry, which would certainly make ordinary people dizzy. Ning Xiaoxian, however, could not care about that, because this thing looked too... deformed!
It had a fish’s tail, fish’s back fin, but in the place of a fish’s head, there grew a human head and human upper limbs! The piercing cries came from a mouth that looked just like a human’s, yet this mouth was full of sharp teeth, clearly full of malevolent factors. And most importantly, the thing would sometimes be solid, and at other times completely immaterial, like it was made of nothing. Apparently trying to evade Tu Jin’s capture, it suddenly became extremely small, trying to slip through his fingers.
Tu Jin, after all these years influenced by Fairy Su Xia, extended his hand to hold open a Barrier and trapped it within. Ning Xiaoxian thought that among those present, except for Tu Jin, both she and Qi Zai would probably be unable to catch this thing.
She couldn’t help showing a look of disgust on her face. She really did not want to call this deformed creature a mermaid, as it would definitely shatter the beautiful image of mermaids in her mind.
However, ugly as the thing was, Tu Jin looked at it as if a wolf had seen a sheep, as if Mr. Wu had seen White Tiger, with such tender affection. He pondered for a while, then reached into the pond again and groped around for quite some time before catching another fish.
This fish finally had the appearance of a "fish": it had a fish’s tail, fins, and head, and out of water, it gasped futilely for air. But Ning Xiaoxian, upon closer inspection, always felt that this fish looked very similar to the strange creature, and it, too, could constantly become immaterial.
"Lord Divine Monarch?" Tu Jin sought help from Changtian, although he instinctively knew that this thing was of great benefit to himself.
Changtian, however, pondered for a while before saying, "If I’m not mistaken, this is an ancient rare species called the ’Cold Devouring Fish’. It is a strange fish that navigates between the realms of yin and yang, with a body that can be either solid or spectral, and it can consume souls. Once it swallows a soul, its head will take on the appearance of that Life Soul. Take a careful look; the head of each fish is different because the appearance of the souls before their deaths were all completely different."
Tu Jin casually grabbed a few fish with heads and forelimbs, and indeed, each one had a different face.
