Chapter 233: Help (1)

"Your Majesty, I didn’t know what you would like so I had the butler prepare a wide selection that might suit your taste. You are in luck as since many men are wandering around here from time to time, we have much to offer you. I hope you like it," Tessa said, watching as Tobias looked around at what she presented.

"Thank you. You’ve outdone yourself with this. Hazel will be jealous to know that I am here. There are some cookies that she says you bake personally. She misses them so if you have any, do you mind if I have some to take to her?" Tobias asked.

"You are in luck as I baked yesterday but I must do a quick check because my boys are quick to eat them. I would be more than happy to bake a few and send them to Hazel whenever she wants them. It’s been so long since I got to sit with her. How is she fairing?" Tessa asked, worried about her.

Tessa had been hearing all the gossip about many wanting Hazel to step down as queen or for the king to take a lover since they were without a prince. No one could think of a time the kingdom had gone this long without the queen having a child.

Tessa didn’t like what was going around the town and hoped that Tobias had somehow managed to block this news from reaching Hazel. Hazel didn’t need this when she had been tirelessly trying to have a baby.

"She is doing well. You can always come to visit her with Kenneth. Her parents are still out of town tending to Helena so seeing you would cheer her up," Tobias replied.

"Right. Renee said they would be gone for weeks. Oh, look at me taking up your time. I will check for the cookies. Excuse me," Tessa said and then hurried out of the room.

"I am confused as to how a woman like her settled with a man like you. She is nice," Tobias said, failing to see how the two fell in love.

"And I am not nice? We met and liked each other instantly so despite who others thought I should marry, she was always my only choice. It is not known as we like to keep our family disagreements amongst ourselves but we have not been on good terms with my father for nearly three years now," Kenneth revealed.

"He is not fond of my wife and Liam was the one to address it. Since I confronted my father about what he told my son or wife, he made it clear that he would no longer see Liam as his family. If he did that, I could not remain a good son to him so our conversations have been few," Kenneth said, regretting it as he missed his father’s plans.

"I do not want Linda to learn of this. She loves her grandfather despite his ways and she is quite close to Hazel. To be placed in the middle to pick which side she must be on will be a terrible thing. I will do my part of speaking to my father so please, help me keep those two unaware of what is being suggested," Kenneth said, referring to Hazel and Linda.

A friendship so pure should not be ruined by someone’s greed. It wasn’t every day that you found a friend who you cherished so Kenneth was going to do whatever it took to keep Linda and Hazel as they were now.

"I need to know who you have seen your father meeting with when you were around him. I need all the names even though you don’t think that person could be involved in his plans. I need to know who his followers are so I can be prepared," said Tobias.

Tobias would bet that the last of the men he had to get out of the court were the ones on Grant’s side but it was the men outside the court that he had to figure out. Those would be the hardest to find, but luckily, he had Kenneth to help him.

"It’s been long but I will try my best to think back to that time. I know that there was a man from your court, Franklin. Whenever I caught a glimpse of my father in the palace, that was who ran to him each time. Maybe you only need him to start uncovering who else is a follower," Kenneth suggested. "I can take him."

"I live in the palace where he works. I have a better chance of taking him in secret," Tobias replied, not willing to take the risk of waiting for Franklin to leave for Kenneth to attack.

"My father can be cocky but I don’t think he will return to the palace for some time so his followers would go to him. I can have my men waiting to snatch a few while you stay in the palace. I should do it so I can someday reveal that I was the one to do it. So, should anyone try fighting you over it, they should die as they wrongfully attacked you."

"I’ve been killing them off in secret to get them out of the court. Some have a suspicion that it is me. I wouldn’t care if others try picking a fight with me over it, but do as you wish as long as they are all taken care of," Tobias agreed.

"Now that I had some time to think, I don’t want you to go to Grant. You know better than I do that he is stubborn. You won’t be able to change his mind. He will know that I came to you so let your silence over this matter give him false hope that you might side with him. Thinking that, he won’t go to anyone else with an army," said Tobias.

As long as Grant thought he could get Kenneth to side with him, Grant would feel like he had already won. It would be an unexpected turn of events should Kenneth turn his sword to Grant at the right moment.

"Once again, I feel terrible to put you in this position, but as your king, I want you to be ready to protect me and my wife. I will not be giving your father an answer so should he make a move to attack, I want you to be ready to block his path," Tobias gave the order.

From now on, his eyes were set on Grant as the man he would rid this world of next.

"Understood," Kenneth answered. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
