The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 235: The ball (1)
Chapter 235: The ball (1)
"That woman," Tobias muttered.
He should consider it his fault as he had annoyed her, but Tobias wasn’t expecting Hazel to kick him out of her bedroom. She was quick to lose her temper today and personally pushed him to the door to go elsewhere.
After failed attempts to get back inside her bedroom and Hazel locking the balcony door to then go to bed, Tobias used this moment to take a quick trip away from the palace to visit Edgar.
Tobias didn’t have the chance to speak much with Edgar face to face about being prepared for Grant thanks to Edgar wanting to stay home to be with his wife. They needed to speak face to face quickly as Edgar needed to know to watch out for Grant and with Hazel going to bed early, he could leave.
The guards he trusted would keep her safe until his return.
Unlike his daily appearance, Tobias changed to clothes a commoner would wear so he wouldn’t be spotted quickly and disturbed. He quickly made his way to the Collins estate, using a secret path he found over the years which Edgar failed to block, to get inside.
He was a regular visitor here so when he showed his face when Edgar’s guards neared him, they let him go on his way. Tobias went to the front door and after he entered, he made his way up to the second floor to find Edgar’s bedroom.
"Edgar!" Tobias called as he pushed the bedroom doors open.
What he saw before him was not what he had been expecting. Normally, it was Edgar sitting around his room, enjoying a cigar or a drink, but tonight a woman wearing a mask along with a maid were in the room.
"Do not step foot into..."
Tobias ignored what the maid was saying as he was more interested in the woman said to be Edgar’s wife. Desmond’s eldest daughter did wear a mask as the rumours said.
"Stop!" The duchess ordered him. "State your name and reason for coming into this house."
Tobias couldn’t believe it even though she was sitting inside Edgar’s estate. "It is you!" He pointed at her in disbelief. Tobias removed the hood from his head once more to reveal his identity. Now she would know who had come here and what right he had to be here.
Edgar was his best friend so this estate was like a second home to him. He came and went as he pleased.
Tobias had so many plans for who Edgar would marry as then he would get Edgar to stay near him. "You are the one who waltzed into his life and messed with my plans."
"Who are you?"
Tobias believed the duchess was joking with him, something she must have already picked up from her husband. How could she not know the king? The king of the very kingdom she lived in? Where was she all these years? "You don’t know me?" He asked.
After a small conversation trying to get her to recognise him, Tobias concluded that she truly did not know him. The wife of the friend he liked the most didn’t know anything about him. Again, Tobias concluded that Edgar had gotten married to her just so he could annoy him.
"What the fuck are you doing in my home?"
Hearing this, Tobias knew that his life might be over and it was almost true as Edgar grabbed him. Thanks to Edgar, it was revealed that he was the king, a woman fainted, and the duchess seemed shocked. A wonderful first meeting in Tobias’s opinion.
Edgar and Tobias exited the room to speak alone.
"What is the real reason you are here?" Edgar asked. It could be that Hazel had thrown Tobias out of her bedroom which was something common leading to Tobias coming here to rest, but Tobias should know that changed now that he was married.
"I’ve been requesting your presence in the palace for a good reason, Edgar. It is something that I don’t trust sharing in letters so I need to speak with you face to face. Grant has suggested that I take Linda to my side and he is willing to go to war if I don’t," Tobias revealed.
Edgar wasn’t the slightest bit surprised to hear this. He wasn’t fond of Grant as it didn’t feel that long ago that Grant kept trying to persuade him to marry Linda. It stopped years ago so it must have been then Grant turned his attention to Tobias.
"What about the other Hensons?" Edgar asked. He wasn’t close to the brothers but he had once fought beside them and knew that they liked to fight for the kingdom. Had that changed?
It would be dangerous if Kenneth and his sons were to join Grant.
"Kenneth swore that he would be on my side and his sons would follow. I just need to know now who else is on Grant’s side. He is willing to work with my enemies to get one of his grandsons on the throne. I don’t want war but should this come to it, I need you," said Tobias.
"I will join but you will need to send word to Rafael so he can be ready. I will send someone to deliver it. It’s about time that you do a proper cleansing of the kingdom. You can do your duty as king for a year two in peace without someone trying to get their hands on the throne. Could your uncle be involved?" Edgar asked as there was a big fight over it long before Tobias took the throne.
"I don’t think so. Grant wants the throne for his grandsons to take so his family can be remembered for years to come. My uncle wanted the throne for himself, but it seems now he has given up on it and started speaking with my father again," Tobias replied.
"I will visit the palace to speak about this, but not right now. I don’t want to talk about war around my wife so leave," Edgar said, back to wanting Tobias gone. He looked forward to spending the night with his wife Alessandra and Tobias being here would ruin it. "I am already looking for the missing women. Give me a break."
"You are not going to allow me to stay? I bet I can convince your wife to let me stay," Tobias said confidently.
Tobias turned away from Edgar to head back to the bedroom where the duchess was taking care of the maid who had fainted when it was revealed that he was the king. To his shock, the duchess agreed that he could not stay so he was escorted out by a maid.
Despite not getting to stay longer, Tobias enjoyed seeing Edgar with his wife. It was an odd pairing but the two seemed like they were doing well together. It still annoyed him that he wasn’t invited to the wedding, but knowing Edgar had fallen for someone was enough.
Tobias returned to the carriage awaiting him to head back to the palace. Seeing Edgar with his wife made him want to be near Hazel so he would make another attempt to get inside her bedroom.
"It must be the ball," Tobias concluded as another reason why Hazel might be so quick to be angry.
Another season had started for young ladies and bachelors around the kingdom to find love so there was a ball tomorrow to start it off. Hazel had been looking over all the preparations for the ball as she did the years before and she was always in a terrible mood during this time.
It was important this time that the kingdom had a good season as the news of missing women and the bodies found soon after had shaken up the town. freёnovelkiss.com
Not only was Tobias tasked with protecting the kingdom from Grant, but there was a twisted soul, killing women for a reason Tobias did not know yet.
"We need a break," Tobias said, tired of having to constantly fix a mess.
The kingdom was too large for one man to look after and though there were courts all around to help him, many of the men in the courts were only looking out for themselves so Tobias was left doing most of the work.
He was constantly away from Hazel yet still focused on her as he tried to protect her. Tobias didn’t get to enjoy his marriage as he wanted as he was always being pulled away from Hazel to look after the kingdom.
If not for Hazel, Tobias wouldn’t torture himself with this any longer. If he couldn’t run away, he would rather take another drastic measure to free himself. Hazel saved him more than she would ever know.
Tobias looked out the carriage window to try to calm his mind and what he saw didn’t help.
A few people were walking the roads alone, something he had warned against because of the missing women. He was doing his part to try to keep them safe but they would always do as they wanted and then cry to him when someone they knew disappeared.
Just as he wanted for Lockwood, Tobias hoped that the ball would be able to lift his spirits. A night of dancing with his wife and sister would be the little moment of peace he needed before all the fighting that would inevitably come.
