The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 236: The ball (2)
Chapter 236: The ball (2)
"You look lovely, Your Majesty. You will be the diamond at the ball as no one can compare to your beauty," Daisy said. This was her greatest work yet with how she dressed the queen for the ball.
With all the depressing talk about the queen not having a child, Daisy thought to work extra hard tonight to dress Hazel up so the queen would be ready to enjoy the ball.
"Thank you, Daisy. All of you," Hazel added the others as they all had a hand in preparing her. "Hopefully, the ball will go as planned. The king will be by my side all night so you don’t need to be so near. If you are asked to dance, I permit you to accept."
Standing on the sideline with the other maids as Daisy tended to Hazel, Julia thought Hazel’s words to be a joke. They weren’t dressed up for the ball as they had to work and should they join the guests to dance, they would receive bad looks.
’She wishes to embarrass us,’ Julia thought.
In another world, if she was not a maid, Julia would love to share a dance with Grant, but he was not attending tonight and if he was attending, his wife would be with him.
Julia had thought for a while now that on one of her visits, she should do as Grant was instructing her to do with Hazel to his wife, but what she would use would kill his wife. Then he would turn to her as he had no one else.
"I can’t keep the king waiting long," Hazel said, looking away from the mirror as it was time to go down to the ball.
The guests would have started to arrive and it was nearing time for her arrival to be announced then to take her seat on the throne.
Hazel looked forward to the ball for three reasons. One, it was a wonderful break from the town having to hear about women going missing and then showing up later dead with no clue as to who took them. Another season meant her helping Linda to find a husband and lastly, she would get to spend the night with Tobias.
"If you see any eligible men you have heard good things about, please inform me. I must help Linda to find a husband," said Hazel.
Linda mentioned that she was ready to try once more to find a man of her liking. Hazel found it to be great that Linda had long moved on from Edgar so news of his marriage shouldn’t bother her.
"I hope to see his wife," Hazel said, now realising that she would finally get the chance to meet Edgar’s wife. She had been hoping that this woman would be someone she could get along with as her friends were few.
Hazel walked to one of the gardens near the ballroom where she was to meet with Tobias. She found him standing with a single flower in his hand. It had to be a gift for him returning to her bedroom late in the night, begging to be let in.
Hazel eventually gave in and spent the night with him.
"My beautiful wife," Tobias greeted, picking up her right hand to kiss the back. He then tucked the flower he picked into her hair. "You look wonderful. So wonderful that I do not want to go into the ball so men cannot stare at you. Should we just be alone?"
Hazel’s heart melted from the compliment. "I would enjoy that but we have guests to entertain. It would be rude for the king and queen to not show. If you are on your best behaviour tonight, I shall let you visit my room and consider what you have been suggesting," she whispered.
Tobias’s eyes widened as she had been against it from the time he had brought it up. Now, he wanted the ball to go by quickly so they could retire to her bedroom. "Let us get this over with."
Hazel laughed at his expected response. "You cannot rush the ball so do not try to think of ways to do it. I want to share a dance with you if we can. I don’t mind if we can’t go any further than the throne to dance. It’s been so long so I would enjoy dancing anywhere."
"I will make it happen," Tobias promised.
Hazel squeezed Tobias’s hand just as they reached the doors to enter the ballroom.
"Announcing the king and queen, Tobias and Hazel Castro!"
The music went quiet and the attention on the two of them got to Hazel once more. No matter how many times she entered a ball with Tobias, it would never feel less scary. It was far different than when she used to attend these balls as Hazel Wallace.
The attention became harder to put up with when Hazel faced a large crowd at once, especially with how they were all discussing her inability to have a child.
Hazel looked ahead to the throne, something she recently started to do so she could ignore all their whispering. They should just be loud as all their whispering mixed and she could hear a bit of what was being said.
Despite the need to run back to her room and go to the balcony once more, Hazel smiled as she wanted to enjoy the night with Tobias. She would find a way to continue to drown out what was being said about her.
Tonight was not the time for her to give in to her depressing thoughts.
Tobias helped Hazel to her throne and then joined her in sitting. With their arrival, the ball continued.
"Tell me when you are ready to dance or to go. They’ve had a good look at us to be able to talk about our appearance so they won’t care if we stay or go now," Tobias said.
They didn’t need to whisper to each other as it was only them and then later Sofia who would be at the throne aside from the guards meant to stop anyone from getting too close.
"I will. Should we have waited for your sister? To have to walk in alone might be a little scary for her. It was for me even with you by my side. Instruct the guards to let her take another way in with her arrival not announced," Hazel said to save Sofia from the attention of the large crowd.
"Very well but after this, your attention must only be on me," Tobias said, refusing to share Hazel with anyone tonight.
Hazel shook her head. "How are you so needy that you are not willing to share me with your sister?"
