The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 241: Coming around (3)
Chapter 241: Coming around (3)
"I am not that drunk. I know what I am asking of you. Don’t tell me that you think I shouldn’t get this woman too," William said, still annoyed with Grant not offering him Hazel.
This alliance was starting to feel one-sided with Grant getting everything he wanted while others got nothing in return. Alessandra was of no use to Grant. The two didn’t know each other so there should be no reason why he couldn’t have Edgar’s wife. The woman belonged to him in the first place.
"I didn’t say that you couldn’t have her. I am willing to agree to it but I also think about not wanting to make Edgar an enemy. I had plans to bring him over to my-"
"You already have me!" William yelled.
"Quiet before you wake my wife with your noise. All you have managed to do is provide me with something from the red light district. Your attention has been on buying women from their families. I will think over getting you his wife but I expect something in return," Grant said.
William started to hate that he had promised to work with Grant. Grant was a little too cocky and wasn’t quick to offer help to those helping him. Grant only wanted to take it.
William was close to ending being an ally to Grant and exposing him. He wouldn’t take Grant using him like this any longer. "Grant, I have done plenty for you and I have only asked for two things. The queen and now Alessandra. It’s time you’ve repaid me."
"Oh," Grant chuckled as he walked to the chair. It was funny to have William telling him what he owed someone. He didn’t have to do anything for anyone. They were his followers, not the other way around. "I didn’t know I had to repay you, William."
"I thought the fact that I have kept the things you have done was me doing you a favour. You cannot want me to help you when my family enters the palace and now when you have not done much for me. There are others quick to kill for me but all you did was bring a bottle," said Grant.
"Without me, the queen would have been pregnant by now. I’ve done more than anyone around you has and now I only ask for one thing. If you cannot help me with what I need and prefer to go to that bastard of a duke who is on the king’s side then I am done," William announced, standing up as he had no reason to be here.
"You’re too emotional. I remember when everyone used to overlook you and even now that you found yourself with money, you are still a joke. Why can’t you get the woman yourself, William? You always say that you are better than Edgar so how hard could it be to snatch his wife?" Grant asked.
If William had power as he claimed, then Edgar’s wife should have been in William’s hands long ago.
"You were boasting about her father handing her over to you to settle a debt but Edgar managed to get her. Truly, I have the wrong men on my side," Grant realised.
If only Edgar wasn’t so close to the king and wanted more power. With a man like Edgar by his side, taking the palace would be easier. Unfortunately, he was stuck with men like William.
Grant stared at the greasy bastard he planned to kill once his family was in the palace. He couldn’t have a man like William taking daughters in his kingdom when the Hensons started their rule. William and many of the men following Grant would have to die.
Though Grant was taking the kingdom by force, he still wanted there to be peace after and he couldn’t have that with his followers alive.
"Now is not the time for you to be looking to throw me away, Grant. You can’t even get your son and grandson-"
"Kenneth is coming around. Should I need to attack the king, he will be right there beside me so unless you want an army at your door I suggest that you do not say something you will regret. If you want the girl, get her yourself. I don’t have time to be kidnapping women for you," Grant replied, changing his earlier decision.
While it sounded good at first to have William wanting to do anything for him in exchange for one woman who didn’t matter to Grant, he didn’t like hearing William claim that he owed him something. This was not a situation when Grant did favours for those following him.
William gritted his teeth. If only the king’s uncle would desperately want the throne like he used to then William would gladly turn to another side. "Let me offer you a little advice. Don’t be so cocky around the men helping you. Some just might turn around to stab you in the back when you least expect it. Or share your secrets with the king."
Grant looked to the right at an old sword he had hung up on the wall. "Are you trying to threaten me right now? All over a woman you can’t take by yourself? Do not be upset with me because you’re weak. If you want us to start believing that you are better than Edgar, why don’t you prove it?"
"I don’t need to prove anything. It should be clear to you and do not think I have missed you looking at your sword. I wouldn’t think about it," William said, reaching for his gun hidden in his coat.
The king not allowing guns to be used in the kingdom as yet didn’t mean William wouldn’t get his hands on one. Guns were far better than swords so now he could enter a fight with a man like Grant and win. The odds were now even.
"I have no plans to kill you right now. Fortunately for you, I still have some use for you. I’ll consider everything you said here tonight was because of your drunken state though that means your words were honest. Get the girl yourself. I have no time to be kidnapped when my plans are going forward," Grant said, standing from his seat as he finished entertaining William.
"Tomorrow, you will have a clear mind and feel embarrassed. A simple apology will suffice. Good luck with getting the girl," Grant said, patting William’s back as he passed him. The gun William had did not scare him. "Try not to die by the duke’s hands. It would be a great shame if you lost to the man you think you are better than."
