Chapter 242: Unwarranted jealousy (1)

Days later, Hazel went ahead with her plans to invite Alessandra Collins to the palace. Linda’s visits to the palace were now few and with the pressure continuing to pile up for her to have a child, Hazel needed a distraction and the duchess would do just that.

Hazel wanted to learn more about Alessandra and offer advice to save Alessandra from what she was going through regarding children.

Hazel was happy to be out of her bedroom as it was starting to feel like all her depressing thoughts stayed in the room so she was not happy whenever she was there. Hazel waited by the front door for Alessandra’s arrival and the carriage she longed to see appeared in no time.

A smile appeared as she watched the two love birds walk together. Was this how she looked with Tobias? Hazel would give anything to return to when she was just married and there was nothing to worry about.

"Good morning Duke and Duchess Collins. I’m so happy the two of you could come to visit the palace today. I hope it was a pleasant trip here," Hazel said as the ride for them would have been a little long.

"Good morning, Queen Hazel," Alessandra Collins greeted Hazel. "The journey here was good." freewebnσvel.cøm

Hazel couldn’t help but smile once more after seeing Alessandra curtsy. There was something about the duchess that was just so cute and Edgar was being protective beside her. Hazel had made the right choice to bring the two here as they were already taking her mind off her bad thoughts.

"I see. Duke Edgar," Hazel turned her attention to Edgar. She looked behind him where a guard stood. "A guard for your wife?"

Hazel wanted to tease Edgar about bringing a guard for his wife when Alessandra was going to be around the queen. No one should hurt her guests and with Edgar’s reputation, no one would want to harm his wife.

After failing to convince Edgar that his wife would be safe, Hazel decided to let the guard stay with Alessandra. Her efforts to send Edgar away and give a carriage to Alessandra to return home also did not work so while she was with Alessandra, Tobias would have his friend.

Hazel liked it because Tobias needed a break and whenever Edgar visited, Tobias would drop everything to be near him. Hazel was starting to get a little jealous of Edgar at this point.

With Edgar gone to find her husband, Hazel led the way to the room she had picked for the day.

Hazel had to tease Alessandra once more to see her blush. "And yet you don’t see how he is wrapped around your finger," she teased. She enjoyed how shy Alessandra was and to save this sight for only herself, she sent the maids away, "Go away, all of you."

"Yes, Queen Hazel," the maid behind her replied.

Alessandra still didn’t think she had Edgar wrapped around her finger even though he had confessed something to her on the night of the ball. It was still a little hard to believe that he could like her, but the queen saw something so it was true.

"I wanted it to be just the two of us today. I wish to get to know you, Alessandra. Please refer to me as Hazel today," Hazel said, then reached for Alessandra’s hand so they could walk close."You have no idea how long I have been waiting for some company."

Hazel missed having a friend in the palace. Normally Linda would be around to help keep her sanity but her friend wasn’t showing as much as she used to and Hazel couldn’t stop feeling like she might have done something to Linda.

Was it because she failed to find a good man for Linda? Or was there something else? When Linda’s brothers came to the palace they were a bit lip tight about where Linda was and that was not like them.

Alessandra didn’t see how the queen could miss being with someone as whenever the queen was lonely, there would be many to run to her side. "There are many young women who would love to keep you company."

Hazel knew that but it didn’t mean those women cared for her. They only wanted to be around her because she was queen. They agreed with anything she said and eventually kept bringing up children when she told them not to.

The Duchess was a breath of fresh air because she had been sheltered due to rumours of carrying a curse. So far it didn’t seem that the duchess cared to get close to anyone because of their status. Hazel hoped this was true because she was growing fond of Alessandra very fast.

Alessandra was almost in Hazel’s position because of their high titles. While the pressure to have a child would not be as it was for Hazel, they would be able to offer each other advice and lean on each other when life seemed to be hard on them.

Hazel needed more people around to stop her from going to the balcony with the thought of jumping. It might be best to share her feelings of wanting to end her life but she couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone as she didn’t want to see their reaction.

Knowing that the queen wanted to harm herself might just be what others needed to call for her to be taken from the throne and then there was Tobias’ reaction.

Hazel shook her head, not wanting to think about that now. She gave all her attention to Alessandra, fully enjoying the conversation about the palace and Alessandra using her title to grow higher in the town’s social world.

Hazel looked forward to helping Alessandra be a woman who could help others like herself. Someone who would speak up for the women the town had given up on and didn’t want to acknowledge.

Hazel’s excitement was stopped by the sudden arrival of Linda. Why was Linda here now after not coming to see her? "Linda, why are you here?" She asked.

Hazel noticed for a split second how Linda had looked at Alessandra. Since Linda wasn’t at the ball, she wouldn’t know that Hazel had met with Alessandra and came to like her. Did Linda feel left out because Alessandra was called here instead of her?

Hazel didn’t think Linda would have the right to feel that way since to her, it felt like Linda was avoiding her. Still, it was good to have Linda back in the palace. Hopefully, whatever was keeping Linda away from the palace was now gone.

Linda swallowed her anger from seeing Hazel with the woman who had stolen the man she wanted. As her best friend, how could Hazel think to be with the duchess when she knew of her feelings? "I came to visit you but I was told you were busy. I was just about to leave when I spotted you. You must be the Duchess, Edgar Collin’s wife. It’s nice to meet you."

Linda offered her hand as a greeting though all she wanted to do was get Alessandra out of the palace and send her back to wherever she had come from.
