The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 270: Decision (3)
Chapter 270: Decision (3)
"Your ears are going to be destroyed by the courtmen when we return," Hazel said, having a feeling there was going to be an angry group of men waiting for them at the door. "Are you sure it’s okay for you to leave the palace, Tobias? You didn’t need to for me."
Hazel could have called upon Linda who was now back in town or called for the duchess to pay a visit to the palace. If Tobias was going to be bothered for bringing her here, Hazel would rather them just stay in the palace. She didn’t want to add to his troubles.
Tobias stepped closer to Hazel to touch her arms. He rubbed her arms up and down, trying to cheer her up. "I am the king, Hazel. They can be upset all they want but I do not care. You haven’t exactly been happy these days when your friends aren’t in the palace. I want to see you happy again so don’t even think of the palace."
Hazel lowered her head as she felt guilty for being unable to enjoy this moment as much as she wanted to. Perhaps she was at her end with bottling up everything. She couldn’t remain strong to not cause those who cared for her to worry.
Hazel was close to finally breaking and letting the palace win. "How can I not think of the palace? From the moment we neared the gates of this home, I kept thinking, am I going to get pregnant if I am out of the palace? Can I stop stressing my body and do it-"
Tobias moved his hands up to her shoulders. "Hazel, you do not need to think about that right now."
Tobias didn’t bring Hazel here to think about having a child. He brought her here to take her away from the people who were upsetting her and to give her a break before they would part.
Just once he would like for her to ignore what was being forced on her to do, but how could he ask her to do that? The pressure that was placed on her was far more than what was placed on him. He didn’t want to be insensitive with how he told her to ignore it all.
Hazel stepped away from Tobias once more. "I do. I have to think about it all the time," Hazel said, unable to do as Tobias wanted. "By now I should already have a prince or at least a princess but I do not."
Hazel had come to terms with reality and she would no longer fight it. Fighting was what caused her to be in this state. Had she given in long ago when it was clear as day that she could not have a child, she would not be this way. She might have saved herself from these terrible thoughts long ago.
"It is not something I can not worry about when the kingdom is worried about the future. We cannot leave the kingdom without an heir any longer. It won’t be long before your relatives come to the castle to suggest a new queen or for you to take a woman to your room," said Hazel.
Tabitha had already started it and soon Jeffrey would follow her. With the previous queen and king agreeing that Hazel had taken too long to have a child, Hazel could not hold out any longer.
This trip wasn’t something for Hazel to happily enjoy. Hazel saw it as the last chance to sleep with her husband and have a child. If a child would not come out of their time alone, Hazel would accept the child from another woman.
"It has already started with Linda as an option. I am sure they would love to have her as queen right this second. They wanted it from the start but she had eyes for Edgar," said Hazel.
It was always known that the daughter of the Hensons was a wanted pick as it meant the Castros would have the loyalty of the Hensons and control the army. It was why Tabitha took a liking to Linda so fast. It was the same reason why Hazel and Helena were shown careful attention because their father was quite useful.
If not herself or Helena, Hazel knew that it could have been Linda. It didn’t matter that Linda had no feelings for Tobias. Hazel disliked thinking of the fact that with Linda still yet to wed, she could be an option for Tobias.
While it would be good for Linda to enter the palace, Hazel would never be able to welcome her best friend being with the man she loved. Hazel never wanted this union to happen. Anyone but her friend would do. That was why she had to pick the woman.
She didn’t care how Linda’s union with Tobias might benefit from the Hensons or how Linda alone would benefit from it.
"I don’t like how I feel these days," Hazel revealed.
Everything she thought of made her feel terrible. She felt like so many problems would go away if she were not present.
Tobias would have had an easier time as king if he didn’t need to worry about her all the time. He would also not be at odds with his family right now if not for her.
"I didn’t bring you here for us to make a baby. Truthfully I was looking forward to us having sex and not thinking about the palace at all," Tobias said, being honest about his plans. He thought there was some hope when Hazel laughed.
He continued, "I understand your concern but I am sure you will be the one to carry the future king. There’s been too much pressure on you which is why I plan to do a bit of shaking up in the palace when we return."
Hazel was once again confused by what Tobias spoke of now just as she was confused by what he said at dinner. There was much that she seemed to be missing. "What do you mean by shaking it up? Are you going to get rid of the people not on our side? If it was easy you would have done it long ago."
Tobias set out from the very beginning to get rid of men he thought weren’t right for the kingdom. Men who had their agenda for being in the palace. Three years passed and many remained because they had dug their roots deep into the palace. Starting alliances with men who could keep them around.
It might have been easier for Tobias had Jeffrey given him a good start.
Tobias was confident that there would be a change soon because Grant’s betrayal gave him the right to get rid of many of the men in the palace. "It was never easy and took years of careful planning but the time is now. They need to go or we shall continue to live in misery."
He added, "The palace already has the best doctors in Lockwood but I am bringing in more doctors from other towns so they can figure out what is causing you to not have a child."
Tobias had always looked into ways to help Hazel have a child safely. He hadn’t been sitting around not doing anything while waiting for it to happen. There were doctors he wrote to who claimed they might have the solution. fгeewebnovёl.com
After leaving Hazel with Edgar for a week or two after this, he was going to bring her back to the palace when it was safe and let the doctors take a look at her. Even then he was going to look into the people around her once more. From her maids to even Linda.
Hazel still could not be positive. What if he would do all just for it to end with her unable to have a child? "And what if the problem is that I am barren? I have been thinking and I have come to the decision that I am alright with you sleeping with another woman for the sole purpose of making an heir-"
"Hazel, enough of this before I am angered by your words." Tobias didn’t want to hear of this now. He had stayed away from all the women brought to him for a reason. He was only going to lay with his wife.
Not only would it hurt Hazel but she would also have to face the comments of her husband sharing a bed with another woman. The women of this town could be cruel and they would seek to make jokes out of this.
Hazel did not want to be quiet on the matter. This had gone on long enough. It was time they stopped hoping for luck to be on their side and do what was expected.
"No, I am speaking what is on my mind. You will eventually be backed into a corner and forced to pick another woman. I would feel better if it is a woman that I have picked and I have prepared myself for it," said Hazel. She would try to find a woman she could get along with rather than one she would spend the rest of her life arguing with.
It was hard for Hazel to say but she had to. "It is not what I want but what the kingdom needs. It has finally dawned on me what your mother meant when she said my husband will not belong to me."
