Chapter 271: Decision (4)

Silence fell upon the room after Hazel shared her plans. She expected Tobias to be angry and say something right away out of anger, but he didn’t. This made her even more concerned but she had to continue. Hazel had already convinced herself this was what she needed to do so she could not turn back now.

Picking a woman of her choice might be the best way to make this all work. "When we return I will select a woman to-"

"One month," Tobias spoke up. He needed a bit more time before agreeing to something like this. "Wait one more month to see if we can have a child and if we don’t, I will let the selection start."

It pained Tobias to let these words leave his mouth. He never planned to take another woman to his side. The option of stepping down as king was better than putting his wife through that.

Unfortunately, Hazel had her mind made up and asking for a month was the only thing he could ask for to put this off a little longer.

Tobias continued, "I will tell the men in the court of this when we return so they will leave us alone for one month. It has not worked out for us since we married, but I have high hopes for us this time."

Hazel loved that he had high hopes for them to have a child but it wasn’t possible for her. Hazel had been trying her hardest not to cry, she could no longer hold back. Hazel closed the gap between them and rested her head on Tobias’s chest, her tears staining his shirt.

He was doing all that he could to not welcome anyone into their marriage because he loved only her. With how much he loved her, Hazel was willing to make a big sacrifice so she could stay by his side for as long as possible.

Hazel didn’t know what she would do without Tobias after coming to love him this much. Though he was the reason for her being inside the palace, he was the same reason why she failed to harm herself.

If Tobias had a little bit of hope left, Hazel was going to let him hold onto that hope for one more month, but then he must agree to her plan. Prolonging this for much longer was going to hurt them both in the future.

"Okay," Hazel answered. "One month."

Tobias sighed in relief, hugging Hazel. He didn’t attempt to mention the tears that she wished to hide. He welcomed Hazel showing him this side instead of continuing to put on an act like she was fine.

Being the queen didn’t mean that she wasn’t to have feelings. That she was always to be seen as strong. Tobias wanted Hazel to know that she could cry before him if she needed a shoulder to cry on. Who better to do it before than her husband?

Tobias thought of telling her about everything during this trip. At least let her know some of his plans, but with Hazel weeping in his arms, now was not a good time. He wanted to see her smiling again.

For the duration of their short trip, he would do his best to keep her happy and have her forget about the palace. Let her experience what it was like to be a normal couple for a moment. One day in the future, he would have to apologise to her for bringing her into the palace. He should have picked someone else and loved her from afar.

It was going to hurt her to know that he was not letting her return to the palace with him right away, but it was needed. Tobias once again refused to believe that Hazel could not have a child. Another search would come and this time, he was going to search for the truth himself instead of sending someone to secretly investigate.

Hazel wouldn’t be the first queen that someone had tried to stop from having a child. Knowing of Grant wanting to have his family tied to the palace, Tobias thought it was a good reason why someone might try to stop Hazel from having a child.

Those who follow Grant would want Linda to be the one to have a child for the king. No one would be safe once Tobias returned to the palace. From the cooks, the doctors who claimed to be helping her, those who were to inspect Hazel’s food, and her maids would be questioned and looked into once more.

A sword to their face and a threat of being hung would do better than sending someone around to look into these people.

Though the current servants around Hazel had pointed out threats around her and the maids were quick to serve or protect her, Tobias didn’t trust any of them.

Hazel wiped her tears away, feeling better now that she cried instead of trying to bottle it up. She felt more relaxed now, compared to when she walked in. Talking had taken some of the weight off her shoulders.

Now, Hazel wanted to make a better effort to enjoy this trip. Tobias planned it all out for her so she didn’t want to ruin his plans.

Hazel was about to speak but was startled by where his hands roamed. How was it that in such a vulnerable moment, he could think of touching her there? "Get your hand off my buttocks, Tobias."

Tobias didn’t move his hands since it was quite comfortable there. It helped to ease them out of what they spoke of a moment ago. They could both do with a distraction right now. "No can do. My hand seems to like it right here. I am enjoying not having to sneak into your room at night to touch you like this. Remind me to get rid of that foolish tradition of the king and queen having separate rooms."

Tobias hoisted Hazel up into his arms so he could carry her around and said, "I say we stop thinking about the palace right now. I’m sorry in advance."

Hazel was confused by the apology. Shouldn’t she be the one apologising for putting the trip off to a bad start? For telling him of taking another woman at a time like this? Tobias had nothing to apologise for so why? "What are you apologising for?" She asked.

Again, Hazel felt like he was hiding something from her and there was more to why they were out of the palace.

However, once she saw that boyish grin of his, she knew what he was planning.

"We won’t get to see much of the area. I plan to keep you in bed from this moment on."
