Chapter 286: Fall of enemies (5)

"He’s really slaughtering his father’s men. I forgot how they used to call him the war beast. Good thing we don’t have to fight against him," Tobias said, amazed by the power of Kenneth. Kenneth made quite the opening for them to follow behind him.

Grant should have never threatened Kenneth’s family because now Kenneth was killing everyone in sight to get to Grant. It was like Kenneth was going to kill a stranger and not his father.

"I have my gun," Edgar revealed.

"Edgar, I haven’t made it possible for you to walk around with it or use it yet. Were you planning to shoot Grant?" Tobias questioned, trying to find where Edgar had it hidden. There wasn’t anyone more eager for guns to be allowed than Edgar. "I know you gifted Rafael one."

"It is for whoever needs to die. Are you upset that I brought a gun with me to use against the man who stopped you from being a father? Because that would be foolish of you," Edgar replied. His gun was not leaving him, especially on a day like this.

"I don’t mean it like that. It’d be a headache for me to get you out of trouble if you are caught using it. I would have to pass the law for it right away. Many already think that I let you get away with too much. If anyone needs to die by a gun, at least make it out of sight," Tobias advised Edgar. "That’s our queue to move in."

Tobias rode his horse through Grant’s gates which were now wide open thanks to Kenneth. Men from each side were either wounded or dead. From what Tobias saw, it was easier for Kenneth to lead his men since Grant’s side was not expecting an attack.

As Tobias slid off his horse, he passed up a group of men he assumed to be Grant’s followers throwing their weapons onto the ground. They were smart to do so and Tobias would free them after them as the kingdom shouldn’t lose too many men in one day. All they needed to do was pledge their loyalty to Kenneth and the king.

Edgar was behind Tobias to protect him from anyone looking to change their mind about surrendering and wanted to take the chance to attack him.

Inside, Tobias heard the loud sound of swords hitting against each other. Servants gathered in a corner, trying to avoid the fighting.

"Edgar, have someone guard the servants. None of them are to be hurt and search for Grant’s wife. We should do that much for Kenneth," Tobias gave the order.

Tobias parted ways with Edgar for a moment. He had to find Kenneth and Grant to be right there to deliver the blow that would kill Grant. While he planned to torture Julia for three years and Grant was deserving of that fate and so much more, Tobias just wanted to see him dead.

No one in the court would care what happened to Julia but they would try to find a way to free Grant, like claiming that Julia was lying and there was no evidence of Grant betraying the crown. Tobias couldn’t take the risk nor was he in the mood to listen to anyone make excuses for Grant.

He followed the noise of where the fight was and came across a group of men blocking the door.

"Your Highness," Jack greeted Tobias. He didn’t want to witness his father and grandfather fighting so he stood outside to wait for Tobias. His sword was already covered in blood as he had to kill men he knew when he trained with his grandfather.

This wasn’t a day that Jack enjoyed but he had to fight because what his grandfather wanted was wrong. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"My father has not defeated my grandfather yet. Even though we have taken control, he doesn’t want to surrender. It is like him to be this way," Jack said as he was used to his grandfather saying only cowards surrendered and he was not a coward.

Jack knew that Grant had to be upset to watch as his men threw their weapons down. They weren’t ready for the fight and with the number of men here to kill them, they knew they could not fight and make it out. They were smart, unlike his grandfather who was outnumbered but refused to give up.

Tobias noticed how much it bothered Jack to be present. It wasn’t something a grandson should witness, but he still had to protect the kingdom and had to be near in case he needed to help his father.

Tobias patted Jack’s shoulder as he passed him. "Your father would like it if you searched for your grandmother. Find out from the servants where she went. I will watch your father’s back," Tobias promised.

Jack nodded his head, leaving his father to Tobias. His brothers would be stronger to watch two of their relatives fight, but he was not.

"All of you, gather Grant’s men!" Tobias yelled an order to the men watching the fight. This much of an audience was not needed.

"Yes, King Tobias!"

The men moving did not stop the fight happening inside the room. Grant refused to lose like this. He was a respected man in this kingdom. His name was highly spoken of when it came to sword fighting. His legacy would not go down like this.

Kenneth was getting the best of him but Grant smiled as it was exciting to see the man he raised. How good of a fighter Kenneth was to be keeping up with him and many times, overpowering him. If Kenneth would have been smarter to join him, they could have taken over this kingdom.

"Wasting all this good power to protect someone else. Why do this when you could be king?" Grant questioned, trying one last time to convince Kenneth. His feet were starting to feel weak from almost stumbling each time his sword collided with Kenneth’s and he was sent flying back.

He had trained Kenneth too well and then the age difference was to Kenneth’s advantage. How could Kenneth do this to his father? What they wanted was different but family should always come first. Grant’s plans included Kenneth’s children, wanting more status for them. Yet Kenneth brought an army to kill him.

"You ungrateful bastard!" Grant yelled, trying to charge at Kenneth when he thought he had an opening. He quickly regretted attacking without thinking much of how Kenneth might get the best of him and screamed in agony when Kenneth’s sword pierced his right foot.

Grant fell onto his knees, using his sword to hold himself up from falling. "I will not go out like this. I led this kingdom to victories. I made you!" He yelled to Kenneth. Kenneth would be nothing without him and what he achieved. "You’re no son of mine."

"That’s the best thing you’ve said recently," Kenneth replied, handing his sword to Tobias to finish this. He had done as much as he could bear to do to his father.

"You were a man the kingdom praised but your greed ruined it. I hope your soul suffers wherever you end up," Tobias said, swinging the sword with all his strength in the direction of Grant’s head.
