The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 289: The talk (1)
Chapter 289: The talk (1)
Hazel melted in the hug she shared with Linda. It was the best decision to send Linda to her now because she could not be without her friend. She had to comfort Linda as well because of what would come by the end of the day.
Grant was just Linda’s beloved grandfather and now she had to learn just how bad of a man he was.
Instead of leaving, Linda spent the rest of the day with Hazel, Alessandra and Eleanor. They had an early dinner together to put an end to their day of trying to have fun to distract from the long wait of finding out what happened to Grant.
Alessandra was kind enough to offer a room to Linda since she did not want to leave Hazel’s side nor did she want to go home to hear more of what her grandfather had done. Eleanor was offered a room but wanted to return home to her aunt who would worry too much.
Hazel waited patiently for Tobias’s visit and even Edgar’s return. It was getting late yet neither man made their way to the estate.
Eventually, Hazel parted ways with Alessandra and Eleanor. Linda had gone to her room already, saying that she needed to rest, but Hazel knew that Linda wanted to be alone to think about what her family might be doing now.
Hazel returned to her bedroom and closed the door. Instead of going to bed, she went to sit by the window. She couldn’t see the gates from here to know when Edgar or Tobias were coming, but she liked looking out.
She would enjoy a nice quiet life like this but then she had to think of how life wasn’t peaceful for a duchess who spent little time in the palace. There would be something to disturb her no matter where she went.
"You will not run now," Hazel said to herself. She could not be weak anymore or try to run away. She had come this far for a reason.
Hazel was the one to ask Alessandra to become a woman to protect the young girls who were like herself and had to debut and try to fit in the town. She had to stay as queen and help those who were being hurt by others.
While Hazel would love nothing more than a break, now was the time to fight. To make her presence known in the palace. She was the queen. Her position had to matter more than making heirs. If she had actual power in the palace, she would not have to wait for Tobias to protect her.
Hazel was tired of being a queen with only a crown on her head to show for it. If she wanted to protect herself, and the children she would have then she needed power. She was forced to watch Tobias tire himself out protecting her and tending to the kingdom all alone because she was not to get involved in the affairs of the palace.
Rather than take what happened today and be sad, Hazel wanted to use it as her motivation to make changes in the palace.
"I must get involved with the court," Hazel decided. It was best to start there. Once she showed those men that she could offer ideas for matters concerning the kingdom, then she could convince everyone else.
Hazel would not miss the next time Tobias was called to visit the court.
Hazel rested her head on the window, watching as the snow fell. While she was pumped up to make changes happen, she still mourned the fact that she could have been a mother of many children had someone not meddled.
To have a three or two-year-old or be pregnant with another child now. For all the children she was rid of the chance of being a mother to, she had to be better. She could not find herself letting someone else take such a gift from her.
Hazel accidentally fell asleep instead of staying up for when someone would return. She was awoken by someone touching her and thought it was a maid coming to trouble her.
"Do you normally fight me when you wake?" Tobias asked, trying to avoid her hands.
Hazel didn’t believe what she was seeing when she opened her eyes. All tiredness went away just from seeing Tobias. "I’m sorry," she apologised.
"Don’t be sorry. I like that you woke up swinging but for it to work, you need to open your eyes. Why are you sleeping in such an uncomfortable position, Hazel? Your back would hurt in the morning if I didn’t come for you," Tobias said, lifting her to the bed where it would be more comfortable.
Hazel looked out the window and found the sky to be still dark. "Is he dead?"
"I wouldn’t have come to you until he was dead. Julia is in the palace dungeon as well as many of Grant’s allies. William Lancaster is dead. A few will hang in the morning while I am going to enjoy torturing the others. You’ll know more about it when you return to the palace," said Tobias.
"And that will be?" Hazel questioned. She had a feeling that he didn’t come to take her back.
"Stay here a few more days. There are still some more people I must get rid of. I shall come for you myself when it is time for you to come back. I’ve sent for your parents as promised. Is there anything more you need me to do?" Tobias questioned as he set her down on the bed.
"I want to be involved with everything the court will do with Grant’s allies and everything else. I want to be present for other things like finding out what happened to the missing girls or when war is brewing. Take my side when I push to be present," Hazel requested.
Tobias had to be all aboard for this. Should he not agree then she would continue to do nothing.
Tobias pushed Hazel’s hair behind her ear. "I am all for supporting you but isn’t it too soon?"
"Now is the best time. I am certain that this is what I want to do. I have spent too long sitting around doing nothing. I am a queen and I want to act like it. I have so much to share with you," Hazel said, ready to have the long-awaited talk with Tobias."Please sit first." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
There was much that needed to be said between them. About the babies they had lost, about Grant, and Julia, and how depressed she had been recently. This could not continue to weigh on either of them any longer. They both needed to slowly heal from what happened and look forward to a new future.
