The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 302: Birthday ball (3)
Chapter 302: Birthday ball (3)
Before the women parted with the men, Hazel had to speak with Eleanor. Eleanor was a beautiful young woman whose only fault was that her parents had a business in the red-light district. Though she was taken in by her aunt to get away from what her parents did, Eleanor was yet to succeed in finding a man to marry.
Hazel knew their peers liked to gossip, but they were getting ahead of themselves by thinking Eleanor could not get the attention of men around her. Men with status who could give Eleanor a good life.
Perhaps their peers kept trying to ruin Eleanor’s confidence because they knew just how much attention she could get if she went after the men who were looking to wed. With Eleanor’s new status as one of the queen’s ladies, Eleanor had a good group of men who would want to court her.
For helping her, Hazel would help Eleanor to find a husband if she wanted.
Hazel went to stand close to Eleanor to ask, "Did you bring an escort, Eleanor? I noticed one of Edgar’s guards was with all of you-"’
Eleanor blushed, taken aback by the queen’s assumption. "Certainly not! I’m sorry."
Eleanor covered her mouth since she was too careless when speaking to the queen. She knew that it was so since the maids behind Hazel all looked at her like she had lost her mind. Eleanor wasn’t used to the status of her new friends so she was still making mistakes.
Eleanor brushed her hair behind her ear, embarrassed by how overly dramatic her reaction to Hazel speaking of Reed. There was a bit of awkwardness between her and Alessandra’s guard who she didn’t get along with at first, but now she was seeing him in a different light.
As rude and annoying as she thought he was, Eleanor couldn’t ignore just how handsome the twins were. Well, Reed only as she had not thought of the duchess’s other guard that way though they were twins. Only one caught her attention.
Hazel looked at the maids who followed her and Tobias. She knew their presence might make Eleanor and maybe Alessandra uncomfortable.
Hazel was trying out a new set of girls and unfortunately, the court wasn’t pleased with all the changes she had been making, but when were they ever pleased? She had to ignore some of the men as they wanted her to rest since they thought not getting sleep was the reason for her acting this way.
Hazel smiled as she thought about how some of them were going to lose their minds when she visited the court for the next meeting concerning the affairs of the kingdom.
Hazel wanted to enjoy a night with her friends feeling comfortable. Alessandra already had to bear with the stares as she was without her mask tonight. "All of you are dismissed. Inform all the young ladies that we are gathering in the tea room."
"Yes, Your Highness."
With the maids gone, Hazle could finally vent to her friends. These women, aside from Tobias, were the only ones to understand her feelings. "How annoying that after everything the people here keep shoving tea in my face when I say many times that I have come to hate it."
Hazel was starting to think that it was done on purpose to upset her. It wasn’t that long ago that it was revealed that Julia was messing with her tea yet many still did not understand why Hazel grew a dislike for tea now.
Though Julia was in the dungeon where she belonged, Hazel couldn’t bring herself to drink tea just yet. She needed time to be able to enjoy it again.
Hazel continued, "They continue to poke at me. Tobias and I have a long way to go before we completely clean out the palace but it has been somewhat peaceful these days. How has life been for everyone? Alessandra?"
The court’s actions did not upset Hazel like they once used to. It came in one ear and went out the other. She started to respond to their complaints and by doing that, they were quiet as they weren’t expecting a response from her so they didn’t know how to proceed with their complaint.
Alessandra took notice of the glances her way because she decided to be without her mask. It didn’t bother her like she thought it would. "Life has been fine for me. I have been drama-free since the meeting with the court. My grandmother went back home but she promised to send the recipes she told us about."
Hazel was happy to hear there would be more recipes because she wanted to make it a hobby to learn how to bake for Tobias when his birthday came around. It was fun to see how a kitchen worked since she had never gotten her hands dirty as a lady.
"Great. I keep telling Tobias about how good the cookies are and I’ve been impatient to make them again. What about you, Heather?" Hazel questioned, now noticing Heather who had been quiet. It was clear that Heather was here as Dominic’s partner.
Hazel was enjoying the romance forming among her circle. "I noticed Dominic was standing quite close. Do I hear wedding bells?"
It was still funny to think that there was Alessandra who married Edgar, Heather who was to be engaged to Edgar, and Linda who had a crush on Edgar.
Heather did not understand the misunderstanding she was hearing often these days. "No. Dominic and I are just friends. He came with me so I would not be stuck with my parents. It was nice of him." freewebnøvel.coɱ
That and she was helping him to prepare the home he was moving into. Dominic said that he didn’t have good taste in what to pick and Heather had never decorated a home before but she was eager to help him since she needed the distraction.
Hazel pretended to understand when in truth, she knew that Heather and Dominic were going to end up a couple. "I see. What about you, Eleanor? Is there a special man in your life?" She asked, making a second attempt to find out about Eleanor and Reed.
Eleanor touched her head as she felt a headache coming on just from thinking of the man troubling her these days. "Only an annoying bastard my aunt keeps inviting to her home. He made my life hell in the past. If any of you don’t hear from me one day, I have run away to get away from my aunt and him. I don’t see the reason for all the rush to get married to people you hardly know. I’ll find a husband on my own."
Hazel pitied Eleanor for having to run away from a suitor. "Well, if you ever need someone who can match you to a partner who suits you, I am that person. I owe you. I can even bring you into the palace so you do not need to run away. Whatever you need, come to me right away."
She continued, "I have already informed the guards to grant you entry into the palace. You can be in the Queen’s court if you wish but I have to warn you that it is quite boring."
Eleanor found the news to be something her aunt would enjoy but before she could thank Hazel for the offer, they were interrupted.
