Chapter 309: Reunion (2)

Hazel held onto her mother’s hand as she walked. She felt like a child again just from being around her mother. "I miss the days we would spend time together. It’s been so long since we had a mother and daughter talk that wasn’t done through letters."

Renee felt like she neglected Hazel once more. "I am sorry. I thought everything here was fine so it was safe to look after your sister with her pregnancy and there are other things she hasn’t shared. I should have been back and forth between you two. That was my mistake."

Hazel was curious about what other troubles there were. She was only aware of her parents being near Helena because there were a few scares with her pregnancy. "Is everything alright with Helena’s marriage?’

"Oh, yes. It’s just that some men don’t see how dangerous it can be for us when having a child. He’s a bit too relaxed for my liking but he does love her. He will need to do more and not leave caring for her in our hands as we plan to be here with you," said Renee.

Renee had put her life on hold to care for Helena but now her son-in-law had to do his part.

"If we are allowed to, we would even stay in the palace to be near you. We’ve been thinking that our home is too big for the two of us, but we would love something for you and Helena to return to with your families from time to time. I miss the days when I would see you and Helena walking around at home. Excuse me," Renee said, looking away to wipe her tears.

"Oh mother," Hazel said, hugging her mother. "I shall also visit you so you do not miss having us near. I don’t want to spend all of my time inside the palace. I want to get out and see the kingdom that I am to rule. Then I can understand what I need to do to make the kingdom better. You can join me on those trips."

"I would love that. I only ask that you be safe since even though Grant is gone, it won’t be long before there is someone to replace him in wanting to go against the Castros. I won’t speak much about him, but I want to know, where are you going from here?" Renee asked.

"I am going to be more involved with the palace affairs. I don’t ever want to go back to just sitting around. I am off to a slow start as the court has not called upon Tobias yet, but I am looking at what I can do to take some work off Tobias’s shoulders. I hate seeing him so tired. Sometimes he gets little sleep," Hazel said, still worried that one day he might faint.

She continued, "I would love to take him somewhere so he could rest but unfortunately, we cannot do that yet. I am still trying to have a child. My friend Eleanor is certain that I can have a child and I am to meet with a doctor we found outside the palace. I do not know when but I am confident I will be able to carry a child."

"I think you will have one or many as well. That is what I wanted to speak to you about in private. To see how you are fairing. I shall visit the church to pray for you to have success this time. I know that you will make a wonderful mother since you have a heart of gold. The little one will be happy to have you," Renee said, knowing that the time was near.

"You say that because you are my mother but I will take it. A few people are being loud to push for a prince but I do not care what I shall have. I just want a baby. They will all need to be satisfied with what I am blessed with. Before the child comes, I want to learn how to bake. Do not look so surprised," Hazel said, nudging her mother.

"How can I not be surprised? You are good at eating what is baked but I don’t know about the baking part. Hazel, I have never seen you bake nor have I ever paid someone to teach you. Is it your plan to burn the palace down so you can leave?"

"Mother!" Hazel whined. "I would have you know that the duchess’s grandmother was a wonderful teacher and she is sending recipes that are easy to follow. You will be blown away soon."

"Like the palace kitchen will be?" Renee joked.

"Ha. Ha. Since when did you become such a funny person, mother? I am more motivated now to produce something to amaze all of you. Just watch," Hazel said, wanting to go bake now to prove her point.

Renee chuckled, looking forward to what Hazel would come up with. "I couldn’t bake and it always upset me that I could not create the things you and Helena liked so I hope you do well. I would love to join you when you practise."

"I would love that," Hazel replied.

Hazel led her mother toward the nearby garden. She leaned her head on her mother’s shoulder as they walked. "I am praying that there will be good news soon. I want to share the news with Tobias that we are expecting. To see him excited to be a father. His birthday was a good time for it to happen but I didn’t have any luck."

"I know that a lot of time has passed and now that you know the reason for the long wait you might think it could happen at the snap of a finger, but you must be patient, Hazel. A child will come sooner than you think but you must not stress yourself. Just let it happen naturally," Renee advised Hazel.

Putting too much pressure on yourself for it to happen would not bring the results you wanted any faster.

"Okay," Hazel replied. She could wait a bit more as long as a child was in her future.
