Chapter 308: Reunion (1)

"How is she with everything?" Renee asked, wanting more insight into how Hazel dealt with the news about Grant.

"She is doing better. She doesn’t try to think about it too much. It is better that way," Tobias answered, keeping Hazel’s suicidal thoughts to himself. He would leave it to her to be the one to share it.

"I see. We still cannot believe that Grant went so far as to get Linda on the throne. We are quite close to the Hensons so they would have been the last people we suspected. Since Hazel doesn’t want to speak about it, I shall not bring it up," Renee decided, not wanting to open old wounds.

Nathan patted Tobias on his back. "Well done. You deserve to hear those words for all that you’ve done. News of the men you got out of the palace reached us. It was long overdue that they lost their positions." free𝑤ebnovel.com

Tobias relaxed after Nathan explained what he meant. He thought at first that Nathan was being sarcastic. "There is still a lot left to be done. We might be forming a truce with the border. That has my full attention right now."

"Should you be able to end that war, the kingdom will be singing your name for weeks. Sons, brothers, uncles, and fathers would be able to return home. There would be plenty of celebrations all over the kingdom. I wish you luck," said Nathan.

"I cannot take credit for it as it is Rafael who brings the solution. I would love to see the army return to their homes to rest. Are you not angry with me?" Tobias had to ask. He was fully prepared for them to vent about what happened to Hazel while she was in his care. "I am fine if you want to scold me or even yell."

Renee and Nathan looked at each other. They were both angry at first and wanted answers to why Tobias was not looking after their daughter, but it was Hazel’s letters that calmed their anger. They both understood how hard it had to be on Tobias as well to learn why there wasn’t an heir yet.

Renee touched Tobias’s shoulder. "We don’t have any reason to scold you. We are here to see that you are fine just as we are here for Hazel. So, please be comfortable around us as you normally are. Everyone might have been checking on Hazel so we want to check on you as well."

Hazel was the one to go through losing her babies but Tobias needed someone to comfort him as well.

"We will be staying in Lockwood for the next few months until Helena has her baby so if there is ever a time you need someone to speak to, please come to us or call us to the palace," Renee offered.

"Thank you," Tobias replied. He had missed the kindness Hazel’s parents had. They were a breath of fresh air for the palace.

"I am sorry to be late," Hazel announced as she ran into the room the others had gathered in.

"You didn’t need to run, Hazel. We aren’t going anywhere. I apologise for being the reason why mother and father could not attend the ball last night," Helena said, trying to stand to greet Hazel but Hazel stopped her.

"No one needs to stand. I am not angry that you were not at the ball. Tobias and I retired early so it was fitting. I am happy to see all of you now. Where is your husband?" Hazel asked Helena. The table was not complete with him missing as well as her nephew.

Helena could only smile as she didn’t know where he had to go before he would show up here. "He has taken our child and gone to visit an old friend first I think."

"I see. Well, I look forward to seeing him later. I was excited to see my nephew but I can wait. What do you think this one will be?" Hazel asked, placing her hand on Helena’s belly.

"I have moments of crying for no reason so mother thinks it will be a girl who is a crybaby like I was. I would love to buy small dresses and have a daughter to dress up identical to me. Then I want to try for one more. I can’t do this more than three times," Helena said, tired of the problems that came with being pregnant. "Oh!"

"It is fine," Hazel smiled. She didn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable speaking about their children around her. "If you have a daughter who is a crybaby like you then you shall know how I suffered over the years with trying to do what I could to make you smile."

Helena feared what was awaiting her. "I do not want to put up with a little me. I was horrible."

"You shall be fine," Renee reassured Helena. "How was your birthday, Tobias?"

Tobias held Hazel’s hand under the table. "It was wonderful since Hazel was the one who planned it. I still have a room full of gifts to open so if you would like to offer you help, please do so. I remember that you are good at organising."

"I would love to help you," Renee replied.

"Well, now that Hazel is here, I must part as I promised Sofia I would take her for a ride into the town to get what she needs. We will be back in time to have dinner with you. Be safe," Tobias said to Hazel, leaving her with a kiss to remind her of him.

"Goodbye," Sofia waved to the group. While she wanted to be around the Wallaces a little more since they kept asking her what she liked and spoke of spoiling her, she was ready to leave for the town.

"Goodbye. You two should be safe as well," Hazel said as there was still danger all around the town. Some people would love to spot Tobias and Sofia to try robbing them or just to hurt them. "The two of them talk so much that I can see them arguing before they get out the palace gates."

"I’m sure they will be good. Their absence gives us time to catch up on a few things. Do you mind taking a walk with me, Hazel?" Renee questioned as there was much she needed to say to Hazel as a mother.

Hazel looked at Helena before responding. "Will we leave Helena and father here?"

"Go on without us. I am too tired to walk around right now," Helena said, shooing the two away. "I will enjoy father’s company until you return."

"Then, we can take a quick walk around," Hazel answered, standing up to join her mother.
