The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 91: Try harder (2)
Chapter 91: Try harder (2)
"That cannot happen yet. I need to see that you are doing your part as you claim. You are standing here with me not knowing what is happening wherever the queen is. I want to hear that the doctor was successful before I jump to get more involved in your plans," Grant said, knowing not to rush before there were results.
They sometimes forgot that they were talking to a man heavily involved in planning how to win wars. A talent that still had him alive for this long and raised his status in the palace.
"You are hard to please, Grant. Still, it cannot be helped that we have to prove that we can be useful to you. It is not like your granddaughter will marry soon," Franklin said because he knew how Kenneth was with his daughter. "When you are ready, we will call upon the prince to have other women."
"Now now. Give the newly engaged couple some time in peace before you ruin their days. I would have unleashed hell on anyone who ruined my early days of marriage. You want to spend that time with your wife fulfilling her duties," said Grant.
"We will start calling other women to the palace after the two wed and a month has passed. We’ll see to it that there is no talk of a child from her end," Franklin promised.
They wouldn’t have needed to go through all of this if Linda had focused on the prince and courted him. This was wasted time, but Franklin could hold off for the sweet rewards that would come in the end.
"I think that it is time you stop underestimating the young prince and what he might do to protect her. He’ll get in our way but I do not want any harm to come to him. I don’t need the prince dying before I can make some use of him and his union with her is sealed," Grant said, looking across the other side of the room to Linda who was oblivious.
He always knew that she was special, but didn’t know exactly what for. Now he knew that all along she was meant to get him inside of the palace and standing behind the throne.
After all he had done for the kingdom, risking his life and the lives of the men who followed his command, he deserved this. Since the king failed to properly reward him, Grant was taking what was owed to him on his own.
"Announcing the queen, Tabitha Castro. Lady Hazel Wallace-"
"Now tell me Franklin, how could a woman set to be seen by the doctor be returning now?" Grant asked, turning to Franklin who was failing to convince him that they were the right people to do this plan with. "Don’t make me regret listening to you fools. I will kill you-"
"W-Wait," Franklin said, just as confused as Grant as to why Hazel was back, but that didn’t mean it was all over yet. "They might have returned after deciding to do it later. The doctor would need some time to gather his tools and- Grant!" Franklin called after him.
"Work harder," Grant advised Franklin.
This was disappointing that there was nothing for him to watch right now.
"See, nothing happened," Grant informed Linda. "You should stop worrying."
"I have stopped, but now I am annoyed that I cannot see Hazel with how many people rushed forward to look at her. Don’t they know to stay where they stood before she returned?" Linda asked, tiptoeing to see Hazel. "She is wearing a tiara. She is like a princess already."
"Calm down, Linda. Don’t make a mockery of yourself and our family by being on your toes to see that family," Grant said, placing his hand on her shoulder to push her down. "Stand like a normal person."
He hated to see women act as if they did not have proper training.
Linda pouted, disliking that she could not run off to the front of the crowd since others were blocking her view. "I only want to see her. No one is paying us any mind right now to care about how I stand. Father, can we go closer?" She asked.
"Knowing Hazel, the first person she will seek out first to celebrate is you so just wait here where she knew you were last. She’ll be living in the palace from now on so I am sure she will want to speak to you," said Kenneth.
Linda’s eyes widened as she realised she had no thought that Hazel was not going to be easy to meet with these days. "What am I to do father? My best friend will be living in the palace. Who am I to spend my days with?"
"I will be around with your mother. Then you have your brothers. Do not cry Linda," Kenneth said, shaking his head at his dramatic daughter.
There was no reason for her to clamp her hand over her mouth and let her eyes start to fill with water.
"I can help you enter the palace to see her," Grand offered.
Linda turned to her grandfather who was now back on the list of people she could count on.
"Father," Kenneth warned. They had just gotten Linda out of the palace and back at home where they could look after her.
"Relax son. She won’t be living in the palace. I have a few meetings to attend so I can bring her along with me and take her back home. Hazel would enjoy seeing her friend whilst in the palace with so many unfamiliar faces. She’s now going to be thrown into a dangerous world and not in a bubble they placed her in when in the selection," said Grant.
"Please, father. Let me visit Hazel when I can," Linda pleaded, holding her father’s arm to convince her. "Think of Hazel needing a friend. I’m sure one word from you to the king and I would be allowed to visit her when she is not preparing to be queen."
"Father, I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t egg her on to want to be in the palace. Hazel will make new friends in the palace and will call upon you when she wants an audience with you. It will be hard for you to meet with her now," Kenneth said, informing Linda of the reality before them.
Hazel was not just the daughter of a wealthy man, she was to become the queen. Seeing her was going to be rare and each time Linda came into the palace to speak with her, there might not be a second to spare for talk.
"I’ll be satisfied with the times that I get to meet her. Would it help if I took one of my brothers along with me? Then if I am unable to meet with Hazel, I will return home with him instead of waiting for grandfather to be finished. I won’t stay in the palace long. Please father," Linda continued to plead.
She couldn’t leave Hazel not having a familiar face to have a pleasant conversation with.
Kenneth sighed as he was never able to last long against Linda pleading for something. "You will take your brother and two guards with you. Don’t expect to be coming to the palace every day."
Linda silently clapped her hands and looked at Grant who winked at her for a job well done.
