The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 93: Celebrating (1)
Chapter 93: Celebrating (1)
Jeffrey was to the front to greet Tobias and Nathan. He hugged Tobias and asked, "What trouble have you caused now?"
"Why does it have to be me? You pissed off a man by asking for his daughter to be tested. You should be glad we didn’t find the doctor," said Tobias.
The doctor wasn’t in his usual spot so they returned to the ball to watch over Hazel in case someone here would try to take her back out of the ballroom to get tested.
"No more games today," Jeffrey said as the proposal was more than enough. "Be on your best behaviour now so I don’t try to kill you infront of these people.
"You can’t kill-"
"I brought you into this world, Tobias. Don’t test me on if I can be the one to take you out of it," Jeffrey quickly spoke and then let go of Tobias.
Tobias still wanted to see his father try. It had been a long time since they had a match against each other because they were both busy. His father was in for a surprise.
He turned his attention to Hazel and found that she was one surrounded by her family so he had to wait. At least for now she was safe.
"I hope there wasn’t anyone else speaking of a test while I wasn’t around. It was Hans who put the idea in your head, wasn’t it?" Tobias asked, wanting to know whose head he had to go for first.
"Tobias," Tabitha warned as this was not what they needed now. "It was a collective decision among the court and he was sent with the message. Let the matter go."
"I will make no such promises. If I let this go, they’ll think they can just pick at her when they see fit. A few heads rolling wouldn’t bother me-"
"Tobias!" Tabitha gasped, horrified by the way he spoke. "Haven’t you caused enough trouble?"
"Not yet. I’ve been quite calm for the fuck- I mean," Tobias paused after the look his father gave him for almost cursing. He looked to his right at the Wallaces. They were still busy talking, but he couldn’t curse around them. "For all the mess that is already starting. Don’t get in my way of protecting Hazel, mother."
"There are better ways to handle your problems. It does not always need to be solved with violence and if you think that it does then I worry about the king you will be. You should call for a meeting with the court and explain why your proposal to Hazel was so fast. That is the way to handle things here," said Tabitha.
"Yes, I should take that advice when it doesn’t work for you," Tobias retorted.
Why should he stick to old ways of doing something when it didn’t work? The problem with many in the palace was that they relied on old rules to solve their problems.
"Not now," Jeffrey interjected, stopping the two from having their talk now. "The Wallaces are beside us and we have a ballroom of eyes on us. You two don’t look like you’re having a nice friendly talk."
"Right. We need to keep on the appearances like we’re happy," Tobias muttered, moving to back the crowd though he was meant to face it. They could never be anything but happy when the kingdom was watching them.
Tobias just wanted to laugh but then his parents would fear he would be called a madman in tomorrow’s papers.
Tabitha sighed, but then was quick to wear her usual smile to avoid gossip. She looked over at the Wallaces who were now done with their conversation and faced the crowd.
Hazel looked to Tobias, curious as to why he was looking away from the crowd. She was yet to know what he and her father were up to for them to return later than she did.
Hazel left her mother’s side and went to Tobias. She didn’t know if there was a rule for her to stand still, but at the moment, she needed to speak with Tobias.
She reached for his hand to hold as she neared him.
Tobias looked down at their hands and then at Hazel. "What’s gotten into you?"
"I am just holding your hand. Do you not want me to?" Hazel asked, letting go of his hand, but Tobias was quick to hold her hand again.
"No, I didn’t say that. It’s just unlike you to be the one to try holding hands first. I like this change," Tobias said, holding up their entwined hands for him to see. "I should have had the ring on your hand now."
"Rushing will make you forget something," Hazel said jokingly. "I look forward to seeing this ring you have made for me."
"A ring has already been prepared by the palace so there is no need to worry about making one," Tabitha said as she couldn’t help overhearing what was said. "You will have it by the end of the day."
"I am making her a ring," Tobias said, annoyed that he couldn’t have a conversation with Hazel without someone joining in. "You can save the ring for the next queen."
"Tobias, you knew from the beginning that a ring was made for your wife to wear. It was carefully made to suit a queen," said Tabitha.
Her ring wasn’t picked by Jeffrey. Like many others, her ring was long prepared without knowing whose finger it would go on. She liked her ring and Hazel would like the one made for her.
"That ring was made without any emotion. Without any idea of what the woman wearing it would like. I will continue with making the ring for Hazel. You can say that the palace had it made for her under the watchful eye of the prince," Tobias said, finding the solution to the problem.
"You plan to make this the greatest love story in the town so saying that I helped in making the ring will have women swooning and cheering us on," he added.
His relationship was about to become like a romance book to keep the town entertained. His every interaction with Hazel or even made up interactions would be shared in the paper to keep the people interested in how in love they were.
"Discard the old engagement ring and turn it into a gift for Hazel. You must get her engagement ring finished by tonight, Tobias. An engaged woman should not be walking around without a ring on her finger," said Jeffrey.
Now that this was settled, he wanted them to move on so they could enjoy the proposal. It was a good day and though the start was rocky, they should try to enjoy it. The Castro’s were soon to have a new member and then plenty more after.
"Sofia will love knowing that there is someone else for her to play with now," Jeffrey said, impatient to tell her. It would cheer her up since she was sad she could not join them.
"Beware my sister," Tobias warned Hazel. "She wants to play all the time."
"I think I can handle that," Hazel answered, still a bit worried.
Tabitha was turning back to face the crowd but then she stopped to look at their hands. "Tobias, that is enough holding hands."
"Right, I forgot this is how women get pregnant," said Tobias.
