The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 98: Advice (1)
Chapter 98: Advice (1)
’What do they speak of in secret?’ Grant wondered, curious of what Kenneth had to say to the prince that he could not hear.
As far as he knew, Kenneth wasn’t aware of the plans the court brought to him or Kenneth would have questioned him about it. His son was not afraid to speak his mind.
So, what was this about?
Grant needed something to drink to calm his mind. He couldn’t have Kenneth suspecting him of anything just yet. Not when his plans had not started to show Kenneth that the throne was something they could obtain.
Grant took a step forward to approach the two to listen to what they were speaking about, but he was stopped by someone he didn’t care for.
"Grant Henson."
Grant stopped, turning to his right to look at a man who confused him with his presence here. This wasn’t a gathering for just anyone to attend so why was William Lancaster here? "William," Grant greeted the man. He wished to know who had let him in. "Did you sneak your way in?"
William, a growing businessman in Lockwood, laughed at Grant’s words. "I don’t have to sneak in when I receive an invitation from the court. I’ve become a man they wish to have around quite often. I saw you standing alone and wanted to have a word with you."
Grant had no interest in speaking to William who wasn’t of any use to him when he wanted to hear what Kenneth was saying to the prince. "We have nothing to speak of. The court must think carefully about who they invite."
Grant had heard that William had slowly changed, increasing his wealth and his appearance had drastically changed. He wasn’t a man to rely on others anymore, but it didn’t make him someone Grant wanted to speak with.
"Your granddaughter is quite beautiful. It’s a shame that she wasn’t picked to become queen. I would-"
"Watch your tongue," Grant warned, walking up to William. "She is not one of those young women you can buy."
William smiled, enjoying how he had managed to anger Grant so easily. His granddaughter was a surprising weak spot. "Calm down, Grant. I have no interest in asking that you give your granddaughter to me. I am a man who enjoys rare things and though she is beautiful, she is like all the others. I have my eye on other things."
"I was only sharing my sadness that your granddaughter was not picked to become queen when she is so lovely and comes from a family that would have brought great connections to the palace. Of course, I am hearing that the decision made today means nothing," William said.
Grant caught on that William was a man the others let into their plans to make Linda queen. They were just adding anyone at this point because William wasn’t useful in Grant’s eyes. He had no connections in the palace and if they were focused on his growing wealth, they should look away because Grant had the wealth to do what he needed.
"Find someone else to entertain you," Grant said, finished with their conversation.
Kenneth would get suspicious of why they were speaking since he wasn’t fond of William’s habits these days and they weren’t friends. William was a man trying to weasel his way into groups that didn’t need him.
"You will need me one day, Grant. I await you seeing that I am not the old William. I’d like a nice piece of art when you come to me," William said, not the slightest bit offended that Grant was quick to end their conversation.
Grant found Tobias had left Kenneth’s side during the time he was speaking to William. He had missed out on knowing what was said between the two. The court was acting without speaking to him first and the only way they would listen was if he got rid of one of them to remind them of who was in charge.
If not around many people, he would have killed William for speaking on Linda though it was a compliment. She was to be the future queen and her name should not be spoken of by such a filthy man.
Meanwhile, Hazel stood beside the queen, engaging in a conversation with the mothers of the daughters she was just competing against. They were filling her ears with compliments, but Hazel could tell that some of them didn’t mean what they were saying.
She had taken the spot that they wanted their daughters to have. It was normal for them to put on their best smile and compliment her now only to go home in anger and try to guess how it was possible for her to win over their daughters.
Their anger had to be kept hidden because there was still a chance for their daughters to enter the palace by becoming part of Hazel’s circle. Either to be her ladies-in-waiting or friends that Hazel would call upon when she wanted to be entertained.
"The tiara looks lovely, Your Majesty."
"The dress you wear today is also lovely, Your Majesty. There is no one who can wear such a dress as you do. It’ll become a trend tomorrow."
’Do their jaws hurt?’ Hazel wondered.
Since she came to stand beside the queen, no one standing there had stopped smiling and it was starting to feel creepy. Hazel had stopped smiling after seconds of coming here, but as the others continued to smile, she followed suit until it stopped feeling natural.
"Lady Hazel must be looking forward to marrying quickly to give the kingdom a prince."
Hazel was brought out of her thoughts now that a question was directed to her. "I have not thought of having a son as yet. My focus is on learning to be the best queen that I can be and wife to Tobias. Then I will think about children."
"Oh, how cute that she is eager to learn from you, Queen Tabitha."
"Yes. I admire her determination," Tabitha replied. "Thoughts about children will come after the wedding. There is much for her to learn about her new title."
"I can hardly wait to see the royal wedding. The kingdom will be celebrating leading up to the wedding and then after as we await news of an heir. I wish you all the best, Lady Hazel." freewebnøvel.coɱ
"Thank you," Hazel said, but she was uncomfortable about how children were being eased into the conversation so much. She knew that there would be pressure to give Tobias his heirs, but the least anyone could do was wait until she was married.
"After the wedding, the kingdom would celebrate the prince taking the throne as king. I hope to see all of you in the palace at that time. Please excuse us," Tabitha said as it was time to move on. "Are you nervous, Hazel?" She asked when they had put some space between themselves and the women.
"A little. There is much to do," Hazel admitted. She would be lying if she didn’t say she was a bit scared.
"In due time, you will get used to it. You are on the right track with focusing on preparing to be queen. You need not worry about the wife you will be to him yet," Tabitha said, noting that she needed to give Hazel the same advice she gave Helena.
