Chapter 48: First Day On The Job

Whilst Juliette rested in the Library of Antarctica, Adal headed back to the Library of Alexandrus.

In the storage, he withdrew an outfit for a librarian. A white blouse with a smart black dress to go on top of it.

He also withdrew a few provisions that might be needed for Juliette, since she would be spending most of her time in the library, and would not have time to go shopping.

Thankfully, due to his recent success in writing, Adal did not need to worry about funding. Both the play and his novel have continued to do well, and his financer, Vinny, frequently informed him of the amount of notes entering his account.

The next morning, Adal returned to Antarctica and woke Juliette up.

The woman rubbed sleep from her eyes and looked around as though she couldn’t believe last night wasn’t a dream.

Adal felt the same.

It wasn’t every day that you got to meet a god.

The experience with Cupid still weighed on him, but he would focus on that later.

For now, he was focused on seeing Juliette dressed in her new outfit.

The woman emerged from the bathroom after showering and was dressed cutely, with her hair still wet.

She blushed and twirled, making the skirt rise in the wind. Adal caught a glimpse of her white underwear that clung to her plump behind.

Juliette batted her eyes at Adal.

"Do you like it?"

"More than that. You might be the most beautiful woman in all of Iglantis now."

His words made her blush brighter, and play with her dress nervously.

Adal read her thoughts.

"I already pleasured him yesterday, so why do I so desperately want to pleasure him again already? With John, I had no desire. But waking up around Adal is completely different... I want him so badly."

He knew what the woman wanted, but he would give it to her.

Not yet.

"We will go back to the Library of Alexandrus to open up for the day. You’ll spend your days there with me for now, and your nights here, but once the library officially opens, you’ll be here all the time."

Juliette nodded her head in understanding, though it was clear that not getting ravaged that morning slightly upset her.

All in due time, my love.

...

Back at the Alexandrus Library, Adal opened up, and the visitors flooded in.

He stood by his counter with Juliette standing beside him. Adal realised then that it was the first time that the woman had done work of any kind.

Even though she was dressed the part, she was clearly nervous, and overwhelmed.

"Are there usually so many visitors?" She asked with a stammer.

Adal smiled.

"Not quiet. It has been like this ever since my novel was released."

Juliette looked impressed.

She watched as all different kinds of people greeted Adal as they passed his desk.

The young, old, and elderly. Reading had never been a popular hobby in the Torn Kingdom, but that seemed to have all changed.

She even spotted nobles that she had recognised.

She thought that they would look down on her when they saw her working a job, but instead, she sensed jealousy on their faces.

Everybody wanted to be around the cool young man, Adal Alexandrus, which only made Juliette more grateful for the position he had given her.

"Why are you smiling?" He asked her from his seat.

Juliette didn’t bother hiding it.

"I am just happy to be here with you."

The next moment, they were both smiling. It was as though they were having their little moment.

Then, a woman arrived at the desk. She had red hair and seemed to be in her forties. Despite her age, she was incredibly beautiful, and the woman’s voluptuous body suddenly made Juliette feel conscious about her medium-sized breasts and butt.

When Adal’s eyes landed on hers, the smile on his face changed to one that seemed mischievous.

Juliette stepped back a little bit, sensing tension between the pair. She wanted to give them space.

She decided to make herself useful by cleaning the shelves like Adal had taught her earlier that day.

Half an hour had passed when suddenly, a voice called out to her.

"Juliette? What the heavens are you doing here?"

Juliette turned, expecting to be shamed for working in the library. Instead, she saw her friend, Penelope.

The green-haired woman was dressed smartly, but casually. Her glasses made her look proper, and her clothes were loose-fitting enough to hide the many curves that everybody knew she had. She also had a book in her hand, but was examining others on the shelf.

"P-penny..." Juliette smiled and scratched her head idly. "I sort of work here now."

Penelope tilted her head slightly and narrowed her eyes at her friend through her glasses.

"Since when?"

"Since John divorced me. He wanted a child, but you know how I felt about him..."

"And your father?"

"He disowned me." Juliette sighed. "Which was when Adal promised to take me in... He is a man like no other. It’s almost like he comes from a different world."

Penelope did not say anything for a moment.

Eventually, she puckered her lips and her cheeks turned slightly red.

"I... am jealous."

They were words she would have never expected to hear from her friend’s mouth.

What happened to the Penelope who once believed she had the right to every single man that existed in Boen?

She couldn’t help but laugh, but not in a mocking way.

"W-what is so funny?" Penelope asked with childlike frustration.

"It’s just, your jealousy is silly, Penny. I am sure if you asked Adal to work here, he would be happy to take you in. He is that sort of man, after all."

Immediately, the words threw Penelope deep into her thoughts.

Me... working a job... Could I really do such a thing, even though I do not need the money?

More importantly, would Adal accept me? Would he want a woman with a past like mine working at his library?

For the past few weeks, Penelope had been battling with regret and shame for her past life decisions, which made her doubt herself in all ways.

She flashed her friend a warm smile before turning back to her book.

"Thank you, Jules, but I do not want to ruin the library with my presence."
