The Lycan king-Chapter 106
*Leonora*
It had been a couple of days since I saw Jax. It wasn’t intentional as the guards and warriors were going through a series of training just in the case that we would have to fight a war. That meant that Bethany and I were staying together for the meantime. Jax told me to stay with her until he came back. I clearly understood his worry because Luke hadn’t been found and there was still the thought of Luke being within the premises.
That thought scared the hell out of me. Having Luke just waiting within the distance. Waiting for the day he would strike. It was enough to send shivers down my back and I was willing to follow any necessary steps to keep myself, my baby and my family safe.
There was a knock on the door causing Bethany and I to look at each other. I got down from the bed and walked over to the door. I opened the door and Devon and Jax walked into the room. They both looked exhausted with eye bags and dark circles around their eyes. Devon walked over to the bed and plopped down beside Bethany. She was seated with her legs crossed. Jax walked over to the seat in the middle of the room.
"Give me a minute and we can go back to ours." He said as he sat down and slouched on the chair. I closed the door and walked over to the seat beside him. As much as I wanted to comfort him, there were other people here so I just placed a kiss on his forehead and he shot me a small smile.
We all just stayed in silence and the tension hung in the air. Everything was changing and the memories of the slain warriors was still on their minds. We had lost a lot of warriors when Luke ambushed the pack but this time everyone was preparing. I tried my best to recount everything I knew to Jax so that he could use it as best as he could. I wasn’t going to let Luke attack us and take advantage of our fear.
Hell, we didn’t need to fear him. That was exactly what he wanted. Our fear. He wanted us to cower like scared pups and hide our tails. Our pack was stronger than that.
"Okay, let’s go." Jax said as he jumped up from his seat and I followed suit. "Devon, take your time and rest before the next training."
"Thank you. You too." Devon responded from the bed as Jax and I walked away. I took Jax’s hand in mine as I closed the door behind us. He led me over to our room and I made sure to lock the door. I didn’t want any other interference with Jax’s rest time.
"Baby. Lay down while I prepare a bath for you." I said as he plopped down on the bed. I made my way over to the bathroom and put the plug in the tub. I turned on the hot water and threw in some bath bombs. I waited until the water was half way full and I switched it to cold water. When it was filled up and the temperature was warm, I made my way to the room.
"Your bath is ready." I announced but he just groaned. I walked over to him and stretched out my hands. He took my hands and I pulled him up. "I’m here to take care of you, okay." I pointed out as I took him to the bathroom. He immediately stripped off his clothes and stepped into the tub. He sighed at the feeling of the water around him.
"Come and join me, please." He asked and I nodded. Anything for him. I quickly stripped and joined him in the tub.
"Do you want to talk?" I asked as laid down on him, his hands immediately wrapped around me.
"Turn around, I want to touch your bump please." He asked and I obliged. As soon as I turned his hands held my small bump. It was a bit more noticeable than before. The baby was growing faster than the normal human pregnancy and I wasn’t complaining. "I wish I could just get this over with but I’m doing any and everything to make sure that this baby is safe and you are safe."
"As much as you want us safe, you have to think of the pack. They are your people too and their safety is as important as mine." I said and I heard him sigh. "What?"
"You know, sometimes I just think of what my life would have been if I had just stepped down for Luke. Things would have been so much different and maybe easier. We probably would have been living with Micah and his little pack." He said and I turned to look at him. "I don’t think I’m a good leader. Everything was my fault. Sometimes I even feel like Claire is shady and I’m wondering why I kept her as my second for so long."
"Why would you think that?"
"I don’t know. I’ve just been thinking about some things. I’m so wary of her now. I want to ask you something. We fought about it before but I really want to know what you think." He said and I nodded. We had fought about so much before so I couldn’t really point out what he was talking about. "Are you sure Claire sent that assassin after you?"
"I’m sure. She told Bethany to tell me to leave you and that you sent an assassin to kill me. When Bethany confessed and you told me I should have come to you instead of running, I knew it was her." I explained to him and this time I turned over so that I could look at him.
"Lately, I’ve been thinking about some other incidents and I think she was the one that drugged you and Noah."
