The Lycan king-Chapter 118
Get my kit. I have herbs and everything." I heard Shirley’s mate say followed by movements. My vision blurred and I closed my eyes as it was beckoning difficult for me to see. I felt like I was gradually fading away.
"Leonora." I mustered up strength to say. It was becoming increasingly difficult for me to do anything other than lay down.
"Hey." I heard Shirley said. "You have to sit up and drink this." She said as I felt hands pull me up. Someone opened my mouth and poured a bitter tasting liquid. I didn’t know what exactly was in that liquid but I retched. A hand clamped down on my mouth stopping me from throwing up the liquid.
"Drink it. You have to drink it now." I heard a voice say. I couldn’t distinguish whose voice it was. I swallowed the liquid and they let go of me causing me to fall back into the chair.
I felt myself drifting off into sleep and this time I wasn’t going to fight it. I felt hands again shaking me to wake up and I struggled to open my eyes.
"What do you remember?" They asked me. I had tried this before. I couldn’t remember a thing. I grunted trying to speak but nothing came out other than jumbled words.
"Just give her time to recover from this. You can grill her after." Someone said and I agreed with the plan. I closed my eyes again and tried to succumb to the effects of the drug.
"What about Leonora?" It was like my brain woke up. I opened my eyes and looked at them to see their worried expressions. I struggled to move to talk or direct their attention to Leonora but to no avail. "Where is she?"
"Missing." I forced out of my mouth. They no both looked at each other.
"Okay, rest up. We will inform King Jax and anyone else." Shirley’s mate said and I finally let myself go.
I could finally lay down and close my eyes without bothering about what was going to happen next.
As I drifted into unconsciousness, one thought remained on my mind.
Where was Leonora?
*Jax*
I watched as Devon cradled Bethany. Ever since we got the news that Bethany had been drugged, Devon and I rushed back to the pack. I was told that the last thing she said was Leonora was missing. I didn’t think it was true until I had searched the house and found Claire sitting in her room in the darkness.
Claire pointed out the light situation and I took her to go back to Shirley’s to meet Devon and Bethany. I came back to meet Shirley pacing around the room, her mate had gone out with a few other men to scout the place.
"I think she’ll be waking up soon. She’s only been out for a couple of hours." She said to me and I nodded. I didn’t know how to feel. It was all to surreal. I didn’t think Leonora was gone. I could still feel her presence. She was still around here somewhere.
I heard a groan and we all turned to Bethany. She was tossing and turning in Devon’s arms. I felt impatient. I wanted to smack her to get up but I knew I couldn’t.
"Hey, hey. I’m here." Devon said as she opened her eyes and tried looking around.
"Nora." She forced out as she trashed about trying to get up. It seemed like she wasn’t totally in control of her body yet. "She- Leo-" she tried talking but her movements started slowing down and it seems like she was drifting off into sleep.
"Don’t worry, she’ll wake up soon. The herbs we gave her is working. I think she was giving a high dose of wolfsbane." Shirley said and I paused. Who could have done this? This was a deliberate attack. Why did they go for Leonora instead of me?
Fuck.
"Leonora." I tried to use my mate bond to reach out to her but there was no response. We had agreed to communicate at night so if she was awake, she would hear me.
"Do you think the dosage she was given can be able to kill an unborn baby?" I asked. Devon and Claire both looked at me with shock immediately I asked the question. "Leonora is pregnant." I announced. There was no use hiding it anymore. I needed them to know the gravity of the situation.
"Congratulations but I’m so sorry." Claire said as she rubbed my arm to comfort me. I didn’t need her comfort, I needed Leonora right here with me. I shrugged her hand off my shoulder. "Don’t worry, we’ll find her and your baby. When is she due?"
"Claire, don’t ask me stupid questions." I almost shouted at her. My mind began to race of different thoughts. What was going on with her right now?
"The dosage can kill a baby but it also depends on if they gave Leonora the same dosage as Bethany." Shirley educated me. "Luckily, Beth’s not pregnant." She added as if to relive Devon but it caused Devon to tense up. I just needed Bethany to wake up and tell me what happened.
Bethany stirred again and this time as she opened her eyes, she slowly lifted herself off of Devon. She looked around the room and finally settled on Devon. He was happy. At least his mate was here! Leonora was somewhere and the thought that she was most likely losing my baby was terrifying. I knew she would be panicking. She was going to blame herself for the loss of our baby. Her getting pregnant had made her overthink to the point it was affecting us. I didn’t want her to lose the baby for her sake but right now I didn’t even care about the baby, I just wanted Leonora back.
I didn’t care about what the loss of our baby would do to us but I was ready to weather that storm as long as my baby was back. As long as my wife was back.
"Where’s Leonora?!" Bethany said as she pulled away from Devon and tried to get up. Devon held her down from me and it seemed like she was panicking. Her eyes went to me and I watched as her chest heaved as she took deep breaths to calm herself. "I’m so sorry."
"Just tell me what happened before you got here." I said and she looked away. I could tell that she was thinking.
"I went to your room to meet Nora and I met this strange man in the front door. She said you had sent him over to guard her." She started. "Then we talked a bit before she said she was hungry. We tried to leave but he didn’t let us. He said that you told him that she shouldn’t cook so she requested for food for the both of us."
"Is that all?" I asked and she went back to thinking. I knew it was hard for her to think right now but I didn’t care. As long as I found my wife. I squatted so that I could be within her eyes level. I felt Claire’s hand on my shoulder and I let her. I needed comfort now.
"His name was Kale. He brought the food for us. We ate and then Leonora said she was feeling sick. I thought it was the baby but she went to the bed and laid down. I remember feeling drowsy and slouching on the chair to relax. But I woke up on the bed. I’m sorry-"
"Forget about that damn bed. What happened?" I spoke immediately. I didn’t care about the stupid apology. My wife is missing. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I woke up and Leonora was gone. I searched every where but I didn’t see anybody. I didn’t even see Claire and I came here for help. I couldn’t remember anything at the time but all I knew was that I couldn’t find Leonora." She finished her story. For a moment, everything stilled.
Someone took my wife. Someone took my pregnant wife. And that someone has allies in my pack.
Leonora*
I don’t know how long Luke has had me in his custody. Every waking moment was like another horror show waiting to happen. I was no longer in the pack and there was no way for me to use my mate bond to call Jax. I felt hopeless. The more time passed, the anxious I got. I was nearing my due date and Claire was hyper fixated on my baby.
Every time she came around, she would mock me and tell me how everyone was panicking and looking for me. It went on for a while until she came one day and said Jax was moving on.
My love, my mate was moving on from me.
I don’t know why but something just broke inside of me. I don’t know why I believed her. Maybe it was because I hadn’t been found. Maybe it was because I felt alone and I knew that I would have to birth my child alone. That was not the plan we had. He promised not to miss our baby’s birth. Now, it was snatched away from us.
