Chapter 41: Chapter 41

*Luke*

"Welcome to The Cave." I announced causing everyone to turn to Leonora and me. There was not a single movement as everyone assessed the girl standing beside me who was staring at everyone with wide eyes. I took her over to the Elders house. The Elders were just like Jax’s council and they basically presided on everything happening in the pack but I still had an upper hand as this was my pack.

We entered into the house and I ushered Leonora over to a seat in the middle of the room. All the Elders were seated and waiting for her. The only information they had was that I found a girl by the stream as I was scouting. It was more preferable to keep the same story. If they knew of Leonora’s closeness to Jax they would think she was a spy and kill her but we needed her. Leonora was our ticket into Jax’s Kingdom especially as she was his rejected mate.

"What is your name?" They asked and she fidgeted in her seat, looking over at me. I nodded for her to continue and she slightly nodded and swallowed.

"Leonora." She said and the elders turned to themselves and began to whisper. There was no way they were going to know about her. Jax had tried his best to keep any information about Leonora being his mate a secret. What a stupid thing to do. There was no way I would hide someone like her. She looked like a goddess. Hand crafted for someone special. Her skin was so supple and shone like an angel.

"What were you doing by the river?" He asked and I looked at her. Her body tensed in the seat. I hadn’t grilled her before bringing her here. I wanted to put her on the spot and see how smart she was. From what I had heard, Leonora was smart. Devious even. She was also out spoken and she wasn’t afraid of anyone. This was a test, my test to see if she was just like they said. To see if she was capable of what I had in store for her.

"I went on a run at night. I got a bit lost and encountered some rogue wolves. In the midst of panicking and trying to find my way out, I tripped. The last thing I remembered was tripping over that log of wood and falling. I honestly swore I was going to die but Luke said he saved me." She lied and I smiled. This was the girl I was waiting for. Leonora! She was exactly as they said she was. Jax’s rejected mate. The same one that suffered for years. They told me she used to be so soft and caring until Jax made it known that she was his mate. Jax created this monster and it made me happy.

"Why weren’t you with your pack?" Her body relaxed as a small smile appeared on her face. It seemed like she was getting used to it. Lying I mean. She could easily do it. I just need to prep her. No one knew what was running through my mind and I loved it. Instead they were whispering within themselves.

"I was running away. I’m from Jax’s pack. I don’t think I’m comfortable sharing all the things that I went through but I can’t go back. If I do, he’ll kill me. I can’t risk it. Please don’t send me back." She pleaded. There was a lot of sincerity in her voice and I wondered if she was telling the truth or lying. That was how good she was. I couldn’t tell. I was someone that was intuitive and observant. I could easily tell when someone was lying or hiding something but there was something about Leonora that made it hard to guess.

"Okay. We would discuss and let you know before the end of the day. For now, you can go to the Shaman for cleansing." They said and I smiled. Leonora passed. The Elders wouldn’t tell you to got for cleaning if you didn’t pass the test. I was so proud of her. If she were my mate, the things I would have done to her and for her. Jax needed a big lesson. He fumbled someone like her and there was no coming back from it. Even Claire, his confidante, wasn’t up to par with Leonora. I didn’t know why he couldn’t see that. Leonora was a goddess.

I could still remember how I met her. Laying on the ground naked. Her dress was a few feet away from her. There was a slight bruise on her neck and from what I could see, it was like she was choked. Maybe Jax did that to her. Her body was wet and she felt light as a feather when I carried her inside. As she laid on my bed passed out, I wanted to grab her and kiss her. Make love to her but I knew the repercussions so I held myself back. Instead I dressed her up in this ugly dress I found on my rope line and put myself to sleep. How could I sleep when the girl that I’ve been fantasizing about was lying next to me? There were few bruises on her body but it was something that would fade away after spending a short while here.

The cave wasn’t like Jax’s pack. It was a place filled with love and care. It was a place where everyone mattered so there was no way she would be abused and treated horribly especially since she would be staying with me. I wasn’t going to let them put her somewhere else. I needed to keep her as close to me as possible even if it meant I would have to lie to my people.

She was worth it. She didn’t know this but she was the key to everything. The key to taking down Jax once and for all.
