The Mafia Prince And His Reincarnated Nemesis-Chapter 194: Bullets That Don’t Kill!
Inside the house, it was quiet. Marcello lay still, with only silence surrounding him. Then suddenly, a small cough broke through the quiet.
The cough was weak and muffled, but it was there.
One by one, the five shadow guards started to start to take off their masks, their eyes fixed on Marcello sprawled on the ground.
"Clear," Nikolai whispered, breaking the silence.
David was the first to rush in, quickly dropping to his knees beside Marcello. He tore open the blood-soaked shirt to reveal the bulletproof vest underneath. The vest was damaged but still held strong.
"Shit! That bastard actually pulled the trigger..." Alessandro said softly, his gaze darting toward the dark exit where Fabio disappeared.
"Marcy, can you hear me?" came a voice that sounded shaky. Maria, who was nervously supporting his head in her hands.
Marcello groaned,
"Yeah, but it hurts like hell."
"But you’re lucky it didn’t go through," Maya chimed in as she helped David adjust Marcello’s position a bit. "We need to get moving. Eduardo’s in danger. Nothing must happen to him."
Marcello’s breath caught in his throat.
"Where did he take him?"
"To the airport," David answered, glancing over his shoulder. "That’s what Fabio could go. He doesn’t know anywhere in Italy where he could hide Eduardo. He’s smart to know that you’ve got eyes and ears in the hotels around so he won’t dare go close to it. Since he was drugged, he might take him straight back to Russia before he wakes up,"
"Damn it," Marcello cursed under his breath, trying to push himself up despite the sharp jab of pain in his ribs. "He won’t get away with this. I swear, I’ll make him pay for it,"
"Easy there cousin," Nikolai said, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "You’ve been through a lot already. You’re lucky that vest is strong enough to hold that bastard’s bullet. Don’t waste the second chance it’s giving you,"
"We don’t have time for a debate," Marcello growled, forcing himself upright. "Eduardo’s life is at stake. Whatever drug he gave him could wear off soon, and you know Eduardo..."
"He’ll fight through it after seeing you get shot", Maya finished, a knowing look on her face.
Marcello met her gaze, feeling a mix of anger and determination. "Exactly."
"We already put a tracker on the car he stole" Alessandro quickly interjected. "Luca managed to do it before this all went down. We can keep tabs while staying a safe distance away."
"Good," Marcello said, gritting his teeth as the pain surged again. "Let’s move quietly. He can’t know I’m still breathing. Not yet."
Maya nodded ready to follow them. Even with her calm face, she was deeply worried about Eduardo.
"We’ll follow behind him. If things take a wrong turn, we’ll step in."
As Marcello looked toward the door, he felt adrenaline begin to replace the pain in his chest.
"I want eyes on him every second. I don’t care if he stops for gas or takes a breath—someone must follow him."
Together, they helped Marcello toward the van they arrived in. As the doors closed behind them, a heavy weight settled in the air.
They had no idea what was heading their way on that highway, but one thing was clear: they were going to rescue Eduardo no matter what happened.
They were lucky that things didn’t turn out as Fabio expected. That was because David betrayed him.
#FLASHBACK
After the night Maria, Nikolai and Alessandro arrived, when Marcello woke up that morning. He woke up earlier than Eduardo, so he decided to go for a short walk. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
But there was someone who woke up before him and was standing outside the door.
David.
He never expected to see David that morning, thinking he was there to see Eduardo, he brushed him off.
"Eddy is still asleep, come back later," was what he said before turning to leave.
David stopped him, standing in front of him.
"I didn’t come to see Eddy. I came to speak with you,"
Marcello furrowed his eyebrows, slipping his hand into his pocket.
"If it’s less important, let it wait after my walk," he said.
"It’s important. Your life could be in danger," he paused and turned to look at David.
He looked at the door. So as not to wake Eduardo up from his sleep, they left the hallway and found their way to the living room. Alessandro was also awake, cleaning the mess they made to tell living room.
Marcello leaned on the kitchen island that was connected to the living room and nodded at David.
"Go on. Let’s hear what you have to say,"
"Uhm... You see, I don’t want to hurt my master in any way. But, I already did. I betrayed his sister and..."
"Woah! I love Eduardo more than you think. But, in as much as I want to hear about how you betrayed him, you better go straight to the point with your story," Marcello cut him short. He swallowed hard, avoiding meeting Marcello’s eyes.
Well, to David, he was one scary-looking man.
"I sent the location of this place to him," he muttered, with his trembling hands.
"To who?" Marcello asked, still calm.
"He is also coming here to take Eduardo away and to do that, he might kill you. You have to..."
Marcello cut him short, grabbing his shoulder. His fingers dug into David’s skin as he grunted.
"I said... To. Who?"
"Fabio!" He answered.
Without wasting much time, Marcello threw a punch on David’s face. He landed on the floor, crashing into the bottle that Alessandro had gathered. Luckily, he didn’t get hurt or anything.
The others who were awake heard the crash and burst out of their rooms. Nikolai saw his cousin rushing towards David who was on the floor. He quickly grabbed him before he landed another hit on David.
"What the hell is going on?" Maya asked.
"That crazy bastard revealed this location to Fabio!" He yelled.
"Wait... What?" Maya asked, throwing a glare at David who was still on the floor.
"Who is Fabio?" Maria was confused.
"A psycho who has been obsessed with Eduardo since, like.... five?" Nikolai responded.
"I didn’t mean to. He threatened me. I didn’t want anything to happen to him, that’s why I’m revealing it to you. Find a way to stop Fabio before he takes Eddy away," David said.
At least, he wanted to fulfil the promise he made to Viola. Even if it takes his last breath, he’ll do it.
"If we don’t act fast, Eddy’s life could be in danger," Luca said, stepping in.
And that’s how they planned. They managed to drug the five shadow guards and toss them into the basement. David, Nikolai, Maya Maria and Alessandro managed to disguise themselves as the shadow guards.
Luca, on the other hand, went to borrow the black fan they were using to follow Fabio behind.
To make everything more real and without suspicion, they had to use a full gun, in case Fabio wanted to use them, and he really did.
As if they were expecting it, Marcello wore a vest to protect himself and after he left, they just shot the ground repeatedly, pretending to shoot Marcello.
#REALITY
"Are we gaining in?" Marcello asked.
"I’m tailing him. He mustn’t find out that we are after him. He might increase his speed if he finds the van suspicious,"
"Shit! Anything you do, don’t lose him!"
"Yes sir..." Luca responded, still maintaining his speed.
