The Raven's POV-Chapter 30: Procedure
Groaning and without leg strength, somehow limping away, they managed to follow.
It was a quiet march towards the next location.
They walked through the maze like sections of interconnected hallways crossing many rooms until they reached their destination.
It was a massive room, some sort of laboratory with countless human sized glass containers arranged neatly in rows.
Above them was a glass balcony, where multiple people stood, observing.
[mic test.... Hello.. Hello..]
A series of high pitched noise mixed with occasional words came out of the speakers which were embedded somewhere in the walls and pillars.
[Now you should be able to hear me.]
Said the speaker from the balcony, A woman who appears to be in her mid-fifties was holding a tablet and was speaking directly into the mic.
[Hello, my name is Elara and I am your teacher for magic magic theory and mana manipulation, I will teach you about magic, affinities and all kinds of mystical stuff, but before that we have a problem]
[I teach everything about mana, but you guys don’t have mana, not yet. You see where I am going?.]

[FIRST; have someone who already awakened the ability, imprint you directly. ]
[SECOND; The devices you see in front of you can do the same]
[and just in case someone lives under a rock, I will explain how it’s done once, so listen carefully.]
[Normally, in the outside world. When some decides to go through the procedure, they mostly do it at 20, that is the recommended age and in many places also the minimum age required]
[They can awaken using either first or second method, for second method it varies from region to region, if you in a place with nobility, then you need to be noble, at least a knight to apply
If you live in a free state, or democracy then you need license before applying. ]
[As for the procedure itself, don’t worry these chambers are the latest tech, with 100% success rate. You will just feel a bit of pain.]
[Now choose a chamber to enter, Dr Conner will take over from here.]
Normally a person would go through the procedure at the age of 20 after. They learned magic theory and body tempering technique first and practised them after awakening the ability to break down essence.
As opposed to students from the academic realm who went to procedure right on the first day and learned magic theory and body tempering techniques alongside practicing magic, body arts.
Meanwhile spirit summoning is innate and does not require extensive knowledge, unless the person wants to go down that path.
Dr Conner then took the microphone and started speaking in a dry tone.
[Hello, This is Dr Conner, please check the number on your smart watch and enter the respective chambers. Don’t worry the procedure is 100% safe, you will feel a bit of pain though.]
Students stayed still for a few seconds and then scrambled after checking their watches
Rowayne arrived in front of the container with the number 86 written on the panel – same as his watch.
After pressing a few buttons in the panel and syncing the watch. He entered.
It took 5 minutes for every student to find their chamber, well not every chamber was filled because the number of chambers outnumbered students present by a large margin.
On the balcony. Dr Connor fiddled with his tablet until multiple screen projections appeared all around him, showing various things about the students in the chambers. From heart rate to essence fluctuations in real time.
With a few swipes here and there on the projected screen, the chambers simultaneously auto locked and a strange green fluid started filling in them.
[Do not panic, the liquid is harmless, it can heal any physical, spiritual or mental damage that occurs during procedure or any pre-existing damage.]
His words did not help that much, panicking when trapped in a glass container slowly filling with liquid is the most human thing afterall.
Not that Dr Connor seemed to care anyway as he went back to checking the screen.
Slowly all containers filled, what Dr Connor failed to notice though, was that chamber 86 was consuming the fluid at an insane rate, it wasn’t the only chamber consuming a higher amount of fluid.
But the difference between it and the chamber with the second highest consumption was more than twice.
Seeing that everything seems to be going well. Dr Conner initiated the first phase.
Everything proceeded smoothly until one screen started showing errors, small errors.
The body scan kept glitching, showing an x-ray of human skeleton one moment only to show error the next moment, then shift back to showing an x-ray of human skeleton.
It was during the second phase that Dr Connor noticed.
He tapped here and there to bring up the footage of chamber 86.
It showed a bizarre thing, the student inside would be perfectly normal one moment only to transform into a grotesque fleshy abomination the next moment and then revert back.
The process would repeat itself, again and again. Slowly and Rhythmically – like a heartbeat.
Dr Connor observed for a few moments and then turned to Teacher Elara.
"Call Norman. Tell him we have a peculiar specimen here"
"Pardon, do you mean Elder Norman?. I don’t have contact with the Elder Norman Doctor."
"then call someone who does. Tell them to contact Norman, we have about... um..
Yeah about 2 hours before the specimen flatlines or... go berserk in worst case scenario"
"Ok."
She pulled out her phone in urgency, dialed a teacher only line.
[This is C.P.H, state your emergency.]
"Hello, Sir, we need to contact an elder, there is a student going critical here"
[Sorry Ma’am this is not under our -]
"Give it here", Dr Connor impatiently snatched the phone.
"This is Connor speaking, Special id - 0, 8, 8,4,2,4,6. I need to speak to an elder"
The line went silent for a moment, then a different voice answered.
[Please wait a moment while we connect to an available Elder, Sir.]
