Chapter 31: Decision

In a different location, somewhere near the tower of maladie, Elder Wong was overlooking reports from the outside world.

The situation has escalated to minor shuffles here and there, across the border; for now it was only vampires, but the future did not look good, especially if other races decide to join in.

He was tasked to conduct the routine check on the power plants this time, but that had to be postponed for later as he got the call from C.P.H.

He picked up the phone

"What’s the problem"

[Sir, Dr Connor wants to speak to you regarding something]

"put him on the line."

[Right away, Sir.]

The phone went silent, made the classic beep sound then a voice came though

[hello, Can I know which elder am I currently speaking to.]

"It’s Wong."

[This is Dr Connor and I want you to call Norman. And call a Elder meeting, you will need it ]

"Tell me the reason, they will be agitated because of repeated meetings in such a short time."

[Do you want the short version or the long version?]

"Short version"

[Exotic specimen, will be dead in a few hours without supervision, or might go berserk.]

"Where are you speaking from?"

[procedure lab, elite academy]

"How exactly an ’Exotic specimen’ enter the lab"

[It walked in]

"How?"

[With two legs?, obviously.]

"No, I mean how did it get in there, past all the security..."

He sighed

"you know what?, just give me the long version"

[Reparative fluids administered to address pre-existing spiritual, mental and physical damage as well as iatrogenic damage sustained during the procedure caused the subject to undergo some kind of Metamorphosis, the subject current state seems unstable]

"Start from the beginning, how exactly did the ’subject’ enter the lab"

[Walked in as a student]

"That’s impossible. There are multiple artifacts and at least three barriers which specifically block any non-human species from entering. They would have shown up on the radar or weeded during the entrance"

Wong then seemed to reach a conclusion and asked

"Is it a hybrid?"

[Negative. The specimen does not seem to be a member of any native species.I have sent a report to the facility to have them run its DNA and essence signature on the database to find its origin.]

"Are you sure it’s not a gift that’s causing the issue?"

The phone went silent as Wong was considering the implications of something not human penetrating their defenses so easily

[... The results came in... it appears to be a potential variant of V ]

The seriousness of the situation dawned on both Connor and Wong almost simultaneously.

"Prepare a report of everything you have witnessed, the current observations, lab report and facility report into a file and do it in 15 minutes, I want it ready before the meeting"

Wong instructed Conner while he prepared to call the meeting.

Conner on the other side, activated the failsafe, effectively sealing the lab.

"Nobody leaves." he said, not in the mood for further explanation.

***

It took 30 minutes for the Meeting to take place, not all were present due to the unexpected timing

"Why the f*ck are we here, What did you miss this time elder Wong"

Elder Hinobi started, displeasure clearly seen on her face, something she did not bother hiding.

"We have an emergency"

Elder Hinobi interrupted before Elder Wong could explain.

"What kind of emergency is it for you to call us just TWO DAYS after the last meeting."

Elder Hinobi was clearly not having it and she was very vocal about it.

So Elder Wong ignored her and threw a flash drive at Elder Norman who promptly caught

"See the files and tell me how serious it is."

Elder Norman tapped on the table in a very specific manner which opened a compartment under the tablet.

The compartment had a port, where he plugged the drive.

He closed the compartment, and tapped the table twice to project the screen on which the files appeared.

He deliberately read some lines out loud so everyone present could hear him.

"The subject’s essence signature and DNA seems similar to Monster named ’V’ but we cannot say for sure without for sure as subject’s DNA and Essence signature keeps reverting back to human DNA and essence signature, further testing required"

"Monster #V? I am not knowledgeable about monsters. Elder Wong, could you be so kind as to remind me what that is?"

Elder Kim asked, partially as a consideration so everyone could get their facts straight

"Very well, Elder Kim. So monster #V is the main... Well the only type of monster that came out of the Gate incident on veînorśe."

"V? They never gave it a proper name?"

"yes, the monster appears to be capable of mimicking its victims 100% only thing it seems to be unable to copy are the gifts, but since since its variants are so diverse they never finalised the name for it "

"and we might be looking at the 13th potential variant of this monster", Elder Norman added

"A variant capable of possessing gifts"

"that’s... Impossible."

"It is very much possible it seems."

"We should kill it", another Elder voiced their thoughts.

"unfortunetly we cannot do that, this individual carries world blessing"

Killing a possessor of world blessing before they turn 18 meant bearing a Curse.

An extremely strong bloodline curse.

This made the elders hesitate.

Elder Norman meanwhile skimmed through the files.

"subject absorbed abnormal amount of regenerative fluids huh"

"Lets hold a vote, those in favour of isolating it for 3 years and killing it raise your hands"

Everyone raised. Everyone except Norman that is.

"Elder Norman, what is the meaning of this?"

"I think we should reconsider our approach."

"No we will not, not put your hand down so we can proceed."

"I cannot do that, and without my vote, we can’t reach unanimous agreement which is a must for this kind of decisions"

"Cease your nonsense right this instant, Elder Norman!", Elder Zephyr barked

"I will not, and without my votes we will be stuck in a stalemate until the subject dies and we all get implicated in the curse."

Elder Norman said with a hint of madness in his eyes.
