The Revenge of the Reborn Supreme Sovereign-Chapter 24 - 23: Is There No Bottom Line at All?
Qin Fan thought for a moment. For someone of his and Ye Jizu’s current status, a matter of several million was hardly significant. It wouldn’t even count as a major favor. With that in mind, Qin Fan nodded. If Ye Jizu wanted to give him the car, he might as well accept.
"Alright, tell your driver to get out," Qin Fan said calmly.
"Yes, of course, Master Qin!"
Gone was any trace of the imposing patriarch. In that moment, Ye Jizu resembled nothing more than a fawning sycophant. Limping with his asymmetrical gait, he approached the driver’s side and shouted with a smile, "Xiao Li, get out!"
"Yes, Patriarch!" the driver replied, his face deathly pale from everything he had witnessed as he scrambled out of the car.
Standing by the open door, Ye Jizu faced Qin Fan and called out with a grin, "Master Qin, please!"
Qin Fan shook his head mockingly at Ye Jizu’s overly enthusiastic fawning, but he didn’t bother with false modesty and strode over to the Bentley. Just as Ye Jizu bent down, his hand raised to shield the doorframe as he escorted Qin Fan into the car, Qin Fan finally spoke, unable to stand it any longer. "Do you really have to be so shameless?"
Shameless?
Ye Jizu froze for a second, then his expression turned solemn. He spoke with grave sincerity, "To be able to attend to a Transformation Realm Grandmaster is a privilege countless people can only dream of! I, Ye Jizu, am honored to have this opportunity!"
Hearing this, Qin Fan just shook his head with a silent smile. He closed the car door and drove away without a second glance.
After watching the Bentley disappear from sight, Ye Jizu limped over to Ye Congjun’s side and asked quietly, "Elder, did I go a bit too far?"
"Too far? Not at all! Absolutely not! The Ye Family may seem glorious, but in this world where Martial Arts reign supreme, we are nothing before a Transformation Realm Grandmaster. Furthermore, the family has reached a critical bottleneck. The powers that be have been wary of us for a long time. For years, they have kept the Ye Family pinned down in Lingnan, never allowing us to extend our influence into Beijing. If this continues, all that awaits us is a gradual decline. The Ye Family needs an opportunity to break this stalemate, and a Transformation Realm Grandmaster is our greatest one! Once we gain the friendship of a Grandmaster, I imagine those at the top will have to reconsider how they treat the Ye Family. Heh heh... so no, it wasn’t too far at all!"
It was rare for Ye Congjun to say so much to his fourth son, who was usually the source of his greatest frustration and disappointment. His weathered old face was a mask of shrewd, calculating wisdom.
Going too far, given the chance to connect with a Transformation Realm Grandmaster? Nonsense! You have to remember what those super-families in Four-nine City did to win Hua Xiaotian’s favor. They were even more unscrupulous! Compared to that, what Ye Jizu did doesn’t even scratch the surface.
"Elder, I understand! I will not give up on this opportunity!" A sharp light gleamed in Ye Jizu’s eyes as he spoke with suppressed excitement.
As for his severed finger and lame leg, he no longer gave them a second thought. Of course, it wasn’t as if he had the luxury or standing to care anyway.
"You have the best chance of building a relationship with Qin Fan. You must seize this opportunity, no matter the cost. The Ye Family will be proud of you!" Ye Congjun turned, his gaze spirited and profound as he looked at his son.
Driving the Bentley back to the urban village, Qin Fan casually parked the car right in front of his house. He then opened the door and walked inside.
In the living room, Qin Chu and Wei Shuying were sitting on the sofa, discussing something.
"Little Fan, you’re back! Sit down for a moment, Mom will go heat up dinner for you!" Springing to her feet, Wei Shuying looked at her son with doting affection and said gently.
"It’s okay, Mom. I’m not hungry," Qin Fan said, shaking his head.
"Where have you been, always disappearing like a ghost? You’re being tutored, yet you still aren’t taking things seriously and studying at home. The college entrance exams are just over three months away. Do you really plan to let people look down on you forever?" Qin Chu spoke up, his eyes filled with worry. Though his tone was scolding, it was filled with the helplessness of a father frustrated with his son’s lack of ambition.
"Old Qin, you can be successful in any field; it’s not like going to university is the only path in life! Stop pressuring the boy with that tone and attitude. Little Fan isn’t a child anymore, he has his own ideas!" Wei Shuying turned and chided her husband.
Of course, Wei Shuying knew perfectly well that while education might not be the *only* path, it was a very good one. But a mother knows her son best. How could she not be aware of her own child’s capabilities? The path of relying on diplomas and academic knowledge was essentially closed to him. Adding more pressure would only do more harm than good.
Wei Shuying understood this, and so did Qin Chu. He sighed, not realizing his wife’s seemingly simple words were just to ease the pressure on their son. He turned to Qin Fan and said, "Little Fan, can you tell us what you’re thinking?"
"Dad, Mom, which university do you want me to get into? Be honest—the one you dream of!" Qin Fan said with a relaxed smile, completely unfazed by their words. How could he not understand the good-cop, bad-cop routine they were playing? 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Heh..." Qin Chu shook his head with a sighing laugh. It wasn’t that he looked down on his own son, but faced with reality, he couldn’t even deceive himself. "Tsinghua and Peking University are too far out of reach; we wouldn’t even dare to dream of them. If you could get into a decent second-tier university, your mother and I would be over the moon. As for the one we dream of... that would be the local Sun Yat-sen University. But can you actually get in?"
"Old Qin!" Wei Shuying snapped, thoroughly displeased.
Facing his wife’s disapproval, Qin Chu held his ground for once, his posture firm as he met Qin Fan’s gaze directly.
Perhaps they had been too permissive, too doting over the years. Qin Fan’s lack of confidence was largely their fault. Now, at almost seventeen, he wasn’t a child anymore. It was time for him to face reality and think about his future.
Qin Chu could ignore the judgment of outsiders. But the Qin Family, the family that had kicked them out—their opinion was something he couldn’t help but care about. He wanted to prove them wrong. He wanted Qin Fan to fiercely slap back at everyone who had ever stepped on, humiliated, or bullied him. But reality was so cruel that his heart had already grown cold with despair.
"I can. As long as a university is accepting students, if I want to get in, I will absolutely make the admission list. So, Mom, Dad, just wait. Let my results do the talking. I, Qin Fan, have never made empty promises in my life, and this time will be no exception!" Qin Fan declared, a confident, almost arrogant smirk playing on his lips.
In truth, from the Shura Venerable’s perspective, this was still him being modest. Never mind just making the admission list. With his Eyes of Golden Flame that allowed for eidetic memory and his Qi Refinement Realm cultivation, wasn’t scoring full marks a piece of cake? But he couldn’t say that out loud. He’d just get an earful for it. Who in the world would dare make such an impossible claim? That would just be spouting nonsense.
"It’s good that you have confidence. That’s a good thing, Little Fan. Mom believes in you! And Mom will be waiting," Wei Shuying said. In the upward curve of her son’s lips, she saw an unfamiliar confidence, and it brought her immense relief.
"Alright. It’s true you’ve never been one for empty boasts. I hope this time is no different. Little Fan, your future is in your own hands. What your mom and I can do is limited, and we’ll be old one day. Okay, that’s enough of that. Let’s eat. Shuying, go heat up the food." A trace of hope and anticipation flickered in Qin Chu’s eyes.
"Okay! You two talk about something happy. I’ll go heat up dinner!" Wei Shuying said, walking into the kitchen with a blissful smile.
「Meanwhile, at the Ye Family estate.」
Staring at the medical report that had just arrived, Ye Congjun, Ye Jizu, Ye Xuan, and Wang Lu were all ashen-faced, as if struck by lightning.
